My thoughts are greatly starting to come together for the argumentation essay. I am going to be writing the essay with Harry, and we are planning to argue the negative for the topic "is the US election process fair. During the next week, I am going to spend class time exploring Google Scholar and library databases to gather research and reputable sources. This research will be collected in a Google document and later placed in our Works Cited and annotated bibliography pages. After accumulating a sufficient depth of information, we will begin drafting the essay, splitting up writing tasks by topic. We will begin at the introduction and thesis and spend two paragraphs arguing each of at least three key points. Currently, I know that the problems associated with the electoral college and two-party system will be the primary points covered in our essay. However, further research may uncover even more factors to discuss.
My thoughts on my argumentative essay are coming together very well. For the argumentative essay, we are writing about the topic “Can money buy you happiness?” Abby and I are writing that money cannot buy someone happiness while Jenna and Madi are disagreeing with us. When researching this topic, we are going to be looking for what in life makes people the happiest. We are going to look at the degree of how family, friends, pets, and other things that you do not have to purchase bring happiness into someone's life. Abby and I were also considering emailing a realtor to ask them if they can notice an automatic change in happiness when a customer buys a larger home. We are going to compare if buying a more expensive home or a cheaper home will make someone live a happier life. When we begin more of our research, more topics to talk about may be uncovered.
As of now, I have a basic outline for what I am going to discuss in my argumentation essay. For this assignment, my brother and I are going to be writing our paper on the opposition to the topic "is the US election process fair." Already, Henry and I have begun gathering sources from online research depositories—such as Google Scholar and the library database—to back up our argument, with us assembling suitable information on a Google document for later use in our Worked Cited and annotated bibliography. Through this research, we have been introduced to key problems in our government—such as the electoral college, two-party system, and focus on the upper class—areas that will become the center of our essay. Over the next few weeks, we will begin to research these topics and others to a higher depth, allowing us to create a persuasive and informative final draft.
I would say that my thoughts are coming together fairly well for this essay. We have already typed the rough draft for our introduction paragraph and I am happy with how it looks so far. I think that I can predict the points that our opposing team is going to argue and I have already come up with some ideas on how to refute their points. I think that we have a good shot at finishing this essay with lots of extra time which is great because we can use that time to check over any details in our essay and make preparations to refute the points of our opponents. There are plenty of sources covering our topic and we have discussed certain parts of it in previous classes so I feel like we have plenty of material to debate over. I am excited to see how this essay unfolds and I’m interested in the challenge of debating with some of my peers.
My thoughts for my argumentative essay are just beginning to come together and are in the early stages. Megan, Jessica, Kate, and I will be writing our essays arguing if flying or driving to places is better. Megan and I will be arguing that driving is better. Kate and Jessica are arguing that flying is better. We just selected this topic yesterday, so I only have a few thoughts on what we can write about. I was thinking that we could argue driving is better because it is cheaper, you can be a heavy packer, you can experience and see more sights, you are in control of your vehicle, you are in your private vehicle (for example no random crying babies), and you do not have to worry about delays and catching your flight. These are a few of my beginning thoughts that are coming together for the argumentative essay.
We have not gotten very far on our essay, but we have lots of ideas that support our side. Our topic is about whether it is better to fly or drive when going places. My partner is Jessica and we believe it is better to fly. We are going against Megan and Calista and they think it is better to drive. We got our rough draft written, and we have nine reasons that support flying. They include it allows you to get places faster, it is more comfortable, less stressful, it can get you places overseas, the beautiful views in the sky, it allows more time in the place where you actually want to be, it is safer, possibly cheaper, and it allows you to be more productive than if you were driving. We need to split up who is going to write about each topic and then start actually composing. I want our topic to also be debated in class, so we could get even more ideas.
I believe that my thoughts are coming together well for this argumentation essay, very well in fact. Ever since I found the topic we'd be arguing my brain's ideas just started to flow. The topic is driving versus flying, which is superior? My friend Calista and I are arguing on the side which thinks driving is superior. The first argumentative reasons that came to my head included the following: more control, the scenic route (it's about the journey not the destination), less money (just gas), you have more room if you are a heavy packer, there are no crying babies or people kicking your seat, and no delays. The positives for driving are overwhelming and our research has just begun. I am genuinely excited to gather more information and research about these initial ideas, and I am curious to see which side of the argument will come out on top.
To me, our essay ideas are coming together nicely. Alyssa and I will be discussing if curfews actually keep adolescents out of trouble. We will begin discussing why it does keep kids out of trouble and our opposing group (Austin and Braden) will be listing their reasons on why it does not keep them out of trouble. So far, we have the obvious reasons as to why it keeps kids out of trouble. These include the following: less risk for older people trying to persuade them to do things they should not, risk of getting kidnapped and other dangerous possibilities, and there is a smaller risk of kids falling asleep at the wheel. To further out essays research, we plan on making a google form to find the public's opinion and gain statistics. We will also work at finding reliable websites with credible knowledge on the pros of adolescent curfews.
Madi and I are writing our argumentation essay on how money has the capability of buying happiness. We are writing against Avery and Abby. This is an argument that can be controversial but we have come up with a lot of reasons that support our claim. Some of them are that money can buy you memorable life experiences like concerts with friends or family vacations. These are memories that will last a lifetime but cannot be obtained without the possession of money. Also, we will research if house size can affect happiness and we are considering emailing a realtor. I do like how we have some extra time before our rough draft is due because this allows for Madi and me to fully dive into our topic and come up with a strong argument about how money can produce happiness. Our thoughts are coming together nicely and we have a solid start to argumentation essay.
My partner and I’s argumentative essay is coming together as perfectly as it possibly could. Jenna and I decided to debate a topic against Abby and Avery. The question we are debating is “Can money buy you happiness?” Jenna and I have started to brainstorm ideas about ways money has personally brought us joy and ways it has brought others joy. I would say Jenna and I have strong reasoning on why money does indeed bring humans happiness. A few things we have come up with is that it allows us to see the world, helps to further education, and it also builds relationships in a way. Money does indeed bring happiness to people's lives. I have never seen a homeless man that is happy with his life, but I have seen a person of great wealth portray happiness. You can find other ways that can bring you joy besides money, but money is a big part of it. Without money you can’t go to the movies or go out to eat and personally, those two items bring me happiness.
we are arguing on the pro side that we should have homework in school compared to students just having tests and quizzes. The thoughts and ideas of what points to argue are coming strongly to my head. I have started to do research to get data and studies that will support the points we have. There are multiple points that we would be able to argue. One point is that it teaches students to be responsible for their work. By doing your homework and doing it correctly teaches them just not the material but also prepares them for paperwork and tasks needed to perform in a work setting. Homework also teaches students time management. Between actually being in school, after school activities, work, and homework students learn to balance their schedule to complete all of the tasks and still have free time to spend with friends and maintain a social life.
Our essay ideas are coming together very well. The side of this argument that we took is not at all very popular, but what we have is very strong against people who decide to take the side against us and every reason can be proven statistically false. I am writing my essay with Maia and we both have the exact same opinion and we gladly came up with our idea, though it is an unpopular opinion that has the potential to make many people mad. The way that we have planned out our essay could be considered as flawless. Every idea nicely flows into the next. Our paragraphs consist of taking the arguing opinion and proving it wrong with things such as surveys that have been taken for women and how they actually feel versus what feminists try to say they feel. We are proving that feminists blow things out of proportion and do not use the actual opinions of the women around them.
My thoughts for the argumentation essay are coming together to some degree. I am writing my essay together with Brian. We are both going to be doing con. Our topic is "Could video games be used in an educational setting?" We are both going to be thinking of ideas off the top of our heads and googling recent research that could prove otherwise. We are going to be putting into effect the ideas of mental health, physical health, and cognitive advancements. We want to see if playing games in class would end up effecting someone's mental health in a negative way. Especially with the dilemmas going around, that video games may cause violence; therefore, what types of video games would even be allowed in an educational setting that would keep a student's attention? There is also the argument that video games cause a major issue in obesity. ADHD could also play a role in this. ADHD may not be cured playing video games, but also may encourage it when games are taken away. Taking into consideration that these kids may also become addicted to these games. Brian and I will be working on each idea together and then we will add in our own ideas before editing and rearranging.
Starting my essay I was well informed on my topic: Should College Athletes Be Paid? Having participated in sports in my life, and being an avid sports fanatic, this topic should prove very interesting. As well as myself, Gavin is my partner—he is well-informed in the functions and system of collegiate athletics. This will give us the advantage to compose an essay on our topic; however, research will still need to be conducted in order to gain the most knowledge on our topic. In class this week, we will be conducting research, as well as discerning the best reasons that we will write about. Gavin and I are for college athletes being paid, and we feel as though the reasons we have researched in just a day have been quite good. Throughout the rest of the week, we will be reviewing websites as well as searching for reputable articles in order to complete our research. Overall, our thoughts are forming together quite well, and I am excited to see where our information takes us.
My thoughts, I would say they are coming along quite nicely. I feel as if I could argue both sides of my topic. Which is, "Should College Athletes be paid?" I have a strong opinion on this topic. I truly do believe that colleges should pay their players at least a little bit. I have many reasons to think like this. After all, these are COLLEGE STUDENTS. Kids who go to college are almost all poor and also in debt. The thing about athletes is that they cannot retain a regular job like some other college students. Believe me, I have tried. Playing a sport in college is definitely a full-time job. These athletes need money to live off of in college. They should receive this from their "Job" which is the sport that they play. This would also keep more athletes in college because they are getting something tangible out of this experience. They are getting paychecks. I am not saying they should get paid in large amounts but they should be compensated so they can get by just fine.
My thoughts are coming together quite well and I am coming up with strong arguments for my side of our essay debate. Our topic is about which lifestyle is superior: living in town or living in the country and other aspects of visiting both places. I am writing with Tucker about how we believe that living in the country is far more superior to living in town. Jessica and Hannah are writing about how they believe that we are incorrect and that city life is far superior to living in the country. We are planning to go into the physical differences like space, sounds, and even lighting can be very different between the city and the country. Also the mental aspects of living in both places, like how peaceful it is or what the location brings to the mind when you go to either location. Overall I am looking forward to writing this and defending why I believe that the country is much better than the city.
I think our essay is coming together really well. Jamie and I are both very passionate about our topic making it easy for us to talk and argue about it. We picked to argue that femisinst take things out of proportion. This may be a very controversial topic and people may not agree with it and hey we may even make some people mad. None the less we have already found facts and statistics to prove that we are right. I’m really excited to write this essay and share my opinions, in a safe environment. Because of the controversy I have always had to watch what I says so no one gets mad. We are arguing against Victoria and Abby, they are taking the side that sexism is real, and they are going to use and find examples for that. I think that this will be a very informational and trying argument, that has a lot of potential.
For my argumentation essay, my partner Ella and I decided to talk about why being an organ donor should be required. We are going up against Tanna and Sydney while they argue why it shouldn't be required. We have not gotten very far on our essay but we have lots of ideas to talk about. Some of the thoughts that we have come up with are it is pointless to no be an organ donor because they just sit there in your body to die. Another reason is that it can save so many different people's lives and each organ can play a huge part. Ella and I are both organ donors because we know that it is wasteful to not be one. For one of our sources, we plan on emailing someone who received an organ from someone else so they can explain how thankful they are and how it has impacted them in a positive way.
I think our essay ideas are coming together well. We are debating on whether college athletes should be paid or not. It is Kevin and I debating against Zach and Cade. This is a very controversial topic in today's world which is why we decided to debate it, and also because we are all deeply into college sports and thought it would be fun. We haven't really looked into it too far yet, but I think we have the basics down of what we are going to debate and we just need to research so that we can be educated to the best we can be. Overall, I think it is going to be a fun essay to compose given the topic we have. I think it is going to be very easy to find plenty of information on our topic because of the fact that it is such a huge topic in today's world.
My thoughts on the argumentation essay are coming together very well. I am composing this essay with Ceci. We are composing about the negative side of the argument. The argumentation topic we came up with is whether or not tough situations make you stronger or weaker. When researching, we are going to be looking for people who either don't come through the tough situation or people who do but don't move past it. I plan on using reliable sources like google scholar to help me with the research that needs to be done. I also plan on looking into the positive side of the argument so I can learn about what the other group, Luke and Lucas, are learning. By doing this, Ceci and I will be able to compose better because of knowing what the other group is going for. We will be able to defend our side better because of preparedness.
For our argumentative essay topic, Kylie and I are writing about organ donation. We think that organ donation should be required. Tanna and Sydney do not think it should be required. Our topic is quite controversial and I think it will be interesting to research more about the topic. We plan on even trying to get in contact with an organ donor and see how it has changed their life and made them have a whole new outlook on life. Our thoughts are just coming together and we just decided on a topic. Kylie and I are passionate about our viewpoints. Organ donation has a variety of benefits. It improves the life quality of others and you can impact someone's life in an unexplainable way. Organ donors change the lives of people who have a failing organ and are in need of a new one; this can help shortening the long wait-list process. I am excited to start researching and I think I will learn a lot from this essay.
My thoughts for the argumentative essay are coming together great. Hannah and I have a lot of experience with our topic because it involves the cons or negative aspects of the foster system. We both agree that there are a lot of both pros and cons involving the endless world of foster care. We already know so much about the foster system that it should be a lot easier for us to argue about our view. I do not think Hannah and I will have any problem with getting upset while arguing because we agree that there are a lot of facts to both points of the argument. I do not know what to expect from the people we are arguing with because they might be very passionate and one-sided about the topic. I am excited to listen to what the people we are arguing with have to say. I am also excited to research and learn more about our topic.
I would say our argumentative essay will go well. It is a little hard for me to talk about a topic I don't believe in. I do believe that crisis makes you stronger instead of weaker. We have the side of that crisis that makes you weaker. I also think it might be hard to write a lot of pages over it but I think the debate about my topic will help a lot with good points we can come up with it for our essay. We are going against Luke and Lucas where they say crisis makes you stronger. I believe we will be able to write all the pages about it but to me, it will be a little difficult.
The thoughts of my topic are coming along quite well, in my opinion. My partner, Victoria, and I are arguing against the fact that feminism is taken too far. I will admit, this is not a topic I am very passionate about. Although, I am a person who tries not to talk too much about my opinion because these days there will be at least someone to get mad at what you have to think or say. I do agree with my topic, though, because I feel like equality has not yet reached what it is trying to accomplish. I feel like feminists are sometimes frowned upon, especially in the republican states like South Dakota, because there are those few people who take it to the extreme. Feminists are just trying to achieve one thing: equality. They are trying to find ways to give women, as well as men, all equal rights.
I believe that our essay is coming together quite well. Madi and I picked a topic that is realistic and very relatable. We chose to argue that when a person turns eighteen years old, they truly become an adult. This topic could be very controversial, and several people may disagree with our side of the argument. We have already found many different facts to argue our side of the case. We are arguing against Lizzi and Alexis. They are claiming that when people turn eighteen, they are not necessarily an adult. They have examples and facts supporting their side of the argument, as well. I am really excited to write an essay arguing something I have a strong opinion on and honestly believe. This essay is a great way to strengthen my argumentative writing skills, and I am looking forward to seeing the final debate between the two sides of our topic.
As I have the "pro" side of my argument, and that is the side I believe in, I have found that my thoughts and plans for explaining why video games can assist and can be beneficial to students in learning in class by helping students who have difficulty in focusing. This is something I believe could be useful; games give an educational but entertaining way of accomplishing some information for teachers, like the Oregon Trail helps teach the migration of Americans west or using games like the Political machine to help kids understand how the American president is elected. These interactive and more entertaining ways of getting information across would help kids with ADHD and ADD or otherwise, are "hands-on thinker" would benefit from this way of learning. These are the main arguments that I have thought of as of right now, but until we start drafting our actual essay, we can flow the information and topics together better. We also currently have a survey out to get other high schoolers opinion on what they belive about it.
I believe that my argumentative essay is coming together quite well. My partner, Brianna, and I will be arguing with Dylan and Jesse on if money can buy you happiness. I believe that money can buy you happiness, and that will be further explained throughout our essay. We both agree that an argument can be made on both sides, however, I stand by the fact that money can buy you happiness a little more than the other side. I am excited to talk about a topic I am somewhat passionate about because I feel it gives me more motivation and excitement throughout my writing. I have not fully dived into my research just yet, but I have done a few searches here and there. I have found many claims that support our belief and Brianna and I will just have to compile all of the information into one amazing essay. I am looking forward to learning more about our topic, and cannot wait to get started.
My thoughts are coming together on the argument essay pretty well. I have a partner, Hannah Frost. We are arguing whether city life or country life is better. Obviously, city life is way better. Ethan W. and Tucker T. are arguing against us but they think that country life is better. Hannah and I agree that the city is convenient, provides jobs, quicker transportation, etc. I plan on creating a survey to see what my other classmates think about the debate between them. For our project, we decided that a video would be a great way to show the aspects and characteristics of the city. My goal by the end of this week is to have the introduction and the thesis statement. Plus, collecting more debatable topics from resources I will find. Some of the resources will come from literary devices and Google scholars online. It will be interesting to see what our opponents come up with and try to counter their judgments.
My thoughts are developing well for the argumentation essay. Although I have not yet reached the main components of the argument in my essay, I have plenty of points in mind. My argument is that homework is more helpful than it is harmful. Homework, although stressful at times, is clearly beneficial in not only the immediate practice of schoolwork and preparation for tests but also in building a work ethic and problem-solving skills. I already recognize exactly what points the opposing arguers are going to make and have plans to defend against them. I could argue both sides of the argument; however, I am on the side that I personally agree with, making it slightly easier to argue. I am not sure if there will be a clear winner or loser; nonetheless, I am confident in what I have planned for the essay and see many of my points as irrefutable.
My thoughts are coming together very well for the argumentation essay. I have thought of some good arguments for my side of the essay but I could also argue on the other side too. Our topic for the argumentation essay is whether or not college athletes should be paid or not. I sided with that college athletes should be paid. I am partners with Zach Bennett and we are going against Hunter Marso and Ethan House who think college athletes should not be paid. Bennett and I have done some research on our topic but need to further continue that research. Bennett being an avid sports fan and participating in sports himself has stated his own personal beliefs on why college athletes should be paid. Bennett and I have still to determine our three main reasons on why college athletes should be paid but will be decided shortly after further research.
My thoughts on the argumentative essay are very sporadic currently. My partner, Grace Wilford, and I will be arguing against Cal Shaykett and Landon Smith. The exact topic of our essay has not been chosen yet; however, we have many ideas and topics of good interest. The struggle for our group is finding a topic we can all agree on and have enough information for both sides of the argumentative topic to write our essay. I believe that once we find our topic, we will dive right into researching the topic and backing up our claims with solid sources and strong claims. Some of our strategies to find ideas we can all agree on started with things we all can relate to. Since this was not successful, we switched to opinions Grace and I have that differ from Landon and Cal. This has been successful as of now. With all of us being strong writers, we will accomplish a well-produced and composed argumentative essay.
My topic is if should college athletes get paid or not. Marso and I will be on the side of college athletes not getting paid, while Beanpot and Cade will be on the side of college athletes getting paid. Although I am arguing against them getting paid, I see both sides. I actually think that college athletes should be paid and I feel strongly about that. However, I do see the reasoning behind them not being paid. This is a highly talked about topic and is all over the news, especially recently with college athletes being able to receive some money. Therefore, this topic should be one that is not too hard to compose about. One major reason people think that college athletes should get paid is that there is less drama in college football because there are not people holding out due to contract disputes and people asking to get traded in college football because you cannot be traded. Many people feel as if there is more competitiveness in college football because they have so much to play for. I feel that teammates in college football have a closer bond with one another.
My argumentative essay is coming together very well. Thomas and I decided to go against Ethan and Dayne in our essay. We will be debating on whether North Dakota State University has a better dynasty than the University of Alabama. Thomas and I will be on the side that North Dakota State University is the better dynasty; meanwhile, Dayne and Ethan will be on the side of Alabama. Between Thomas and I, our reasons for why North Dakota State is a better dynasty is coming along very well. We have found many different reasons for why North Dakota State is a better dynasty. One reason for why North Dakota State is a better dynasty is because they don't get the five-star recruits like Alabama does. North Dakota State also would have a tougher time recruiting because they don't have as good of a climate as Alabama does. My argumentative essay is coming along very well, and my group should have an easy time stating why North Dakota State University is a better dynasty that the University of Alabama.
For my argumentative essay, I am working with Kate and we have decided to argue against Megan and Calista. We have been throwing topics around for a few days now, coming up with great ideas. There are a couple that has stood out to us but after some brainstorming, I believe we have chosen, “is it better to fly or drive?” when going on a vacation. Kate and I will be arguing that it is better to fly. We are already finding the positives and negatives of our topic so we can start constructing our argumentative essay. I feel confident that we will solidify our topic very soon so we can debate it in class. Therefore, we can start finding more ideas to back up our points. I am confident in where we are right now and I believe all of our thoughts are coming together well for this essay.
So far I haven't established any complete thoughts yet, but I am currently researching information about my topic. Our argumentation essay is whether technology has a positive or negative effect on relationships. Sophie and Olivia are on the positive side. They are arguing that technology does have a positive effect on relationships. Shar and I's topic is the argumentation against "technology has a positive effect on relationships". We are going to argue that technology is detrimental to relationships. When it comes to relationships, including friends, family, and coworkers, technology can create excess drama and hassle. I am sure I can come up with multiple arguments from both online and personal experiences. Technology has played a roll in everyone's relationships at some point. So far we are just researching information on our topic and haven't started the rough draft yet, but we do have a plan for how we are going to split up the essay.
I think our essay will come together well because we all are familiar with the topic that we are doing. We all also actually support the sides that we are on and that motivates us to think of the best arguing points to support our side of the argument. We are debating whether athletes should be paid in college or they should just get scholarships for their play. Cade and I ware on the side that supports them getting paid. We are just starting to piece together our information to get ready for the argument against Hunter and Ethan. On a scale of 1-10, I would say that we are at a 6 out of 10 when it comes to piecing our information together. Some points we plan on using are that some of these athletes come from poor communities and they don't have time for a job during the season so they use the extra money to support themselves and possibly send back to their family.
My thoughts are coming together somewhat alright. Our topic is on whether it is a bystander's responsibility to get involved or not when there is trouble. I feel like you can argue either side of our topic based on which aspect you look at. You can look at the topic from a morally right standpoint or from a technical standpoint. My partner and I will have to think about what needs to be researched more to make sure we are taking as much into account as we can. There are many points that need to be considered and arguments against the other side that need to be made. We have our work cut out for us and I am looking forward to writing about this topic because I have not put much consideration into it before this essay. I will definitely have to think outside the box to come up with some creative points on why it is not a bystander's responsibility to intervene.
The thoughts are starting to come together but are only in their beginning stages. Eli Cheever and I teamed up against Mason Matthies and Gavin Terhark to argue whether college athletes should get paid. To start, Eli and I wrote down many of our arguments as to why college athletes should not be paid. One reason we stated was that the athletes are compensated for their athletic ability with the best dormitories, scholarships to cover student debt, and other forms of free compensation that the average student is not granted. I also read that if the colleges were to get rid of scholarships and pay the students a salary, they would have to pay taxes which could be great enough to reduce their income so much it would barely cover their tuition. Another reason we will argue is that the purpose of college is to gain an education, and sports take the student's minds off that valuable education. Although we have just started our research, we already have a lot to write about and will gain even more when the class debates our topic.
I believe that my thoughts are coming together quite well. Abby Bastian and I are very passionate and strong-willed about our topic. Abby and I are still researching our topic and starting to create an outline. Our outline is meant to create a more cohesive essay that will hopefully be more persuasive. I know that Maia Aichele and Jamie Fick are against Abby and me over the topic of feminism. Overall, Abby and I believe that feminists are fighting for equal rights amongst all of the sexes. However, we both know that there are some people who ruin the term and image for the rest of the people. True and proper feminists believe that there should be equality amongst the sexes completely. When people strongly believe that women are better. Sexism is evident throughout life. When applying for jobs, statistically employers will go with the male option unless the job deals with guest services. In medical school, the competition is fierce to get in. Another statistic is women are more likely to be harassed and overlooked.
My thoughts on my argumentation are coming together quite well. I am still in the stage of developing points that I can use in my essay. I am writing with Ethan and we are discussing if country life is better than city life. Ethan and I are defending that living outside of town is better than living in town, whilst Hannah and Jessica are defending the stance that city life is better. The debate we had today in class really helped me think like a debater and has given me several ways of thinking that I will use in my essay to defend our stance. I myself personally believe that our stance is more "correct" than our opponent's stance, which makes arguing a lot easier since there is a genuine passion and belief behind our position. This is better, because if you didn't totally agree with your stance's belief, then it may be harder for you to care as much or want to put in the time and effort to create a good, convincing essay.
Well... I have not started my essay as of this moment, although, I do know the topic of my essay: Foster care. I am partnering with Brooke Bishop from 7th period, she is in foster care and we have been friends for 5 years now so I sort of know the ins and outs of the system. We do not have any partners right now to argue against and we do not know if we are doing pros and cons but at least we know what we are doing. We are going to start our essay as soon as we find two other people to write along side us. We have good ideas for both the good aspect and bad aspect of foster care so I believe that whatever we pick we will have a perfectly good argument. All in all, I believe that foster care is a topic that needs to be taken very seriously.
I think that my thoughts for the argumentation essay are coming along pretty well. I am writing an essay with Avery Myers versus Madi Albertson and Jenna Long. Our topic is “Can money buy happiness?” I am on the side that money cannot buy happiness. In class today we debated our topic, which helped a LOT. I took notes on both sides so that Avery and I are able to piece together a strong argument taking the best points from today. I also noted what the other side’s main points where so we can address them in the “C” of CHESS. We are going to contradict those points and find flaws in their reasonings. I think that we are also going to go more in depth on what happiness really is and what brings us happiness. Lizzi B also brought up the debate of pleasure versus happiness. I think money brings pleasure, but pleasure is fleeting. Happiness is a longer lasting feeling not brought by materialistic things.
Thoughts for my essay are coming along quite well. My partner and I are arguing for the cons of homework, especially excessive homework. My main points to argue will include: cutting into social time, creates a negative attitude toward learning, extra time in school does not equate to better grades, and it may encourage cheating. I think that we easily have enough information to contradict every point the other pro-side has to offer. Also, I will be able to fully support my opinions because I believe homework should only be assigned when necessary. As a current student, my experience and emotion will help me validate my arguments. I believe that homework teaches hard work but it creates a lot of stress and unnecessary worry that students have to tack on to their daily lives. This amount of stress in youth can lead to irregular behavior and resentment toward authority. To truly teach kids, maximizing engagement and interest during class time is the best option.
My argumentative essay topic is if teens with curfews are really staying out of trouble. I haven't realized how much this topic relates to me. I know friends that have curfews but still manage to go and cause trouble with others. My personal experiences are helping my points with this essay and making it easier to write more vividly. I will be able to fully support my reasonings because I will know a good amount on my topic and how it contradicts other arguments. I will show studies on how teens cause trouble no matter what time their curfew is and how a curfew can make the teens want to cause even more trouble. I will also look into how no curfew is different than teens with a curfew; I can interview students with a curfew and without a curfew and record how much trouble they cause with or without their curfew. I believe no matter a curfew, a teenager will still manage to cause trouble one way or another.
For the most part, I would say that my thoughts are coming together for the argumentive essay. Besides the fact that we haven’t got to the point of having a solid topic that we are going to be arguing. But, we ended up arriving at a topic on the 4th of July vs Christmas. My partner in this battle is going to be Ben Woidyla and we are facing Micheal Chevalier as well as William Cambell. They are on the side of Christmas and we are on the side of the 4th of July. My main thoughts based on my personal experiences are that most times the 4th has offered me a better time and having more fun. Another thought is that the 4th of July also offers great weather as well as the ability to enjoy the outdoors. One last thought that I have is that involving the 4th of July is that you are able to do activities outdoors instead of having to be all bundled up indoors.
The degree to which my thoughts are coming together is going very great. My topic is over why we should ban the show Caillou. However, I think our topic also applies to why we should have more serious kids shows instead of silly ones. My partner Ethan and I are debating against why we should have more serious kids shows which is something I actually agree with. I do not understand why we should have more serious shows because kids should not have to deal with real issues at such a young age. It is a topic that I have a very strong opinion on and I think that I will be able to write a lot of my thoughts and opinions down which will make this essay a bit easier to write. Overall, I am happy that I got this topic and I think that it will be an interesting one to debate and ponder over.
My thoughts are really coming together for our topic. I am learning more about not only socialism but also conservatism and capitalism and how it affects countries including our own. Quinn Gienapp and I are arguing that socialism is not the ideal model for society. We think that there are better alternatives that are fairer for people that are struggling and for the people that are more fortunate. I think we will find a lot of evidence proving that socialism is not ideal and we will probably bring up past countries that tried socialism (and failed). I have a very strong opinion on this subject and I am going to enjoy writing about the best ways to run a country other than socialism. I believe there will be a few contradictory pieces of information about conservatism and capitalism; however, I feel that the number of negative facts about socialism will far outweigh the cons of other government systems.
I believe my thoughts are coming together well for this argumentation essay. Lizzi Boomsma and I are arguing against Madi Lawerence and Bre Langenhorst about whether you become an adult at 18 or if you become an adult, later on in life. Lizzi and I are arguing against 18 being considered an adult. We haven't done too much research on it yet, but so far we are finding lots of great ideas and topics to include in our essay. Other than researching, I believe that conducting some interviews may be beneficial for our essay as well. We would interview both adults and teenagers, knowing they both have very different points of view. After interviewing each subject, we will interpret their thoughts on the topic and add them to our essay. This is a topic that I truly believe in so I am very excited to see where this topic goes and how the essay turns out.
My thoughts on my topic are coming together well because they were debated today in class. My topic is whether the kid's TV show Calliou should be taken off the air or not. The reasons stem further from personal opinions on the show, and the debate revealed that any kid's show can affect how a child behaves. My spectrum in the debate and in my essay is to defend Calliou from being taken off the air. My main thought on the issue of whether or not Calliou causes bad behavior in kids is that it is up to the parents' discretion and if the kids can handle it without mimicking Calliou's behavior. If the child cannot contain themselves, the parents need to step in and teach the child what kind of behavior is acceptable.

Currently, my thoughts on the argumentative essay are all jumbled up in a big pile of verbiage. I have been consulting with my partner and my opposition about what topic we would like to discuss within our debate. We are coming up with so many great ideas its hard to choose the best from a multitude of great ones. There are many things we have to take into account when choosing our topic such as its defendability, researchability, and argument sides(it’s not really good to pick something we all agree on easily). However, I am really excited about this essay. I think that it will be interesting to see how two writing styles converge to meet a similar goal. Especially when those two writing styles are so different. It is also interesting to note the fact we are going against other people. Without an opponent, this would just be a radical, highly opinionated, almost hostile essay. Despite that, we still have to remember to keep our defense clean and respectful while possessing an offense that is strong enough to withstand our opponents’ rebuttals.
At first, I struggled to figure out what topic to do. I am not very passionate about many topics that I would want to argue about, so when my partner and I got together and she suggested doing an argumentative essay about GMOs. This got me excited because even though I hear about GMOs all the time and how some people are against it and some are for it, I don’t know how it affects crops or what is bad about it so it will be interesting to see what I learn. Also, we are thinking of going against GMOs, and even though I don’t know a lot I am thinking we can talk about how they may not be good for you or the environment, some of the risks and even the mutations that occur, and other things I have not learned about yet. My words for this essay aren’t quite together yet but they are starting to fall in place.
Though not much writing has been done yet, the thought process behind my essay is coming together slowly but surely. For this argumentative essay, my partner and I are asking readers: Is it a bystander's responsibility to interfere when there is danger or injustice has been served? We believe that yes, bystanders should be responsible for stepping in. My partner and I are currently in the process of collecting accurate information to further prove our point, demonstrating real-life scenarios that highlight the prevalent need to hold bystanders accountable, and dig into the weight of our subconsciouses and value of having high morals. We have plenty of ideas streaming through; the challenge will just be putting them into cohesive trains of thoughts and compiling enough evidence to prove our point without question. This will prove to be a feat in itself, as our topic is based more on personal belief, rather than black-and-white factual statistics.
After much struggle and indecisiveness, my group has decided what to do for our topic. My duo and I haven't started much composing in our essays, but thoughts behind it have started. My partner Taylor and I are writing why animal testing is seen as unethical while our opponents, Braden and Jeremey are saying how it is ethical to do so. Not much research has been conducted yet to figure out a strong base for either side but from personal opinion instead. Statistics and other testing experiments must be researched first before any typing happens. This topic does seem challenging due to my opinion on the subject. I believe animal testing, as well as human testing, is very unethical but what else could be used to do testing on. Testing must be done to see the effects certain new medications have on people though. So my stance on the topic is 50/50 but from researching some statistics and websites about animal/human testing Taylor and I will be able to prove our part of the argument.
I think my thoughts are coming together well. Hannah and I are going to be writing an essay on the topic of whether or not TV shows like 16 and pregnant promote or discourage teen pregnancy. I and Hannah had to decide which side of the argument we were on. At first, we had different viewpoints on the subject. There are very good points on both sides. Such as anything made into a TV show becomes glorified and in a way promoted. As well as the fact that showing the struggles a teen mom has to go through discourages teen pregnancy. After Hannah and I had a mini-debate with each other, we finally decided to argue the fact that TV shows promote teen pregnancy. As of right now, we are not facing anyone. This is a very controversial topic and it should be fun to do some more research to back up our opinion.
Currently, Heidi and I have a topic picked. We will be writing our paper claiming that the US election process is fair. I will admit history, in particular, history pertaining to the government is not my strong point or of high interest to me. Although I do not find it very interesting, the US election process is the topic my group has decided on. Because of that fact, I feel as though my thoughts are not coming together very well or cohesive. Cursoratory research has been done to find sites that could or will be useful. Those online sources are currently noted at the bottom of the research pages to, later on, be used for the Works Cited page. We will begin to research the topics that support our argument that the election process is fair while also addressing counterarguments. These topics of debate will be thoroughly analyzed allowing us to create a powerful essay supporting the claim that the US election process is fair. One topic that will be brought up in the essay is the electoral college.
My thought process for this essay has been off to a pretty easy and smooth start due to our topic being over something that I immediately agreed with. My partner, Emily, and I are fighting for the pro side of money buying happiness. Even though we have not started putting our thoughts onto a google document yet, we frequently have discussions in class about the points that we want to make in our essay. The ways we often see people show off and talk about the trips and items that they buy with money can be a strong indicator of how happy and satisfied they are with their purchases. We have already thought about some of the comebacks that the opposing side might have in their essay and how in-depth we have to go on our topics so we can stump them. All the ideas and information that we have so far is not backed by any evidence. Right now, it's a priority that we research studies and statistics that we can use to make the pro side more reliable. I'm looking forward to writing over a topic that anyone can have a firm opinion over.
My thoughts are coming together fairly well. My partner and I decided to debate the topic of GMOs. We are going against GMOs to provide information on the negatives they have on the environment and when factoring in human consumption. Personally, I have debated this topic often throughout the state and national levels at many agricultural workshops, 4-H, and in horticulture judging. Having farmers run in the family, I can see the trace of chemical sprays and GMOs on the environment. A branch of GMOs I would like to talk about is the chemical spray that goes on plants. When traveling up north to where my family lives, trees branches are bare of leaves on the lower half but have a supple amount on the top. I question if the sprays drift and take a negative effect on the trees. This leaves me to question whether chemical sprays are safe for humans to breathe in. Furthermore, I question whether humans or any species, in general, is gaining any benefit from GMOs when consuming. There are sprays to help strawberries resist frost, but once soaked into the plant and then consumed, is this really safe? Throughout this argumentative essay, my partner and I hope to discuss some of these topics.
Right now, my argumentation essay has not made a huge amount of progress. My partner (Cal Shaykett) and our opposition (Keaton Beyer and Grace Wilford) are still brainstorming ideas of what we could disagree on. We do have a few ideas which could end up working out, though. Some of our ideas include whether or not the ACT and SAT are effective gages of education, whether sex ed should be banned in middle schools, whether the media hurts or helps with political elections. I think that we are all skilled enough to get a good final product. I'm not worried about getting it done. We just need to decide on a definitive topic and start writing and researching. We might even debate our topic in class. I think the final product will be good once we find a good topic which we can argue on either side. I'm confident about how this project will go.
My thoughts for the argumentation essay is coming along nicely. I am writing the essay with Daisey Vis. Our topic is the con side of "could video games be used in the classroom setting". Ideas so far have been from the top of our heads or through minimal research on google. Ideas so far have been about mental health and physical health. We are looking into how playing games in class might have a negative impact on either physical or mental health. Physically, video games can cause obsessive laziness and lead to obesity. Video games in a mental sense can lead to addicted behaviors and compulsive disorders. Exposing kid's developing brain to video games and the disorders video games can cause will more than likely be a bad idea for schools. Daisey and I will be talking about our ideas and how we will write our essay before finalizing the essay.
I believe that my thoughts for the argumentation essay are coming together fairly well. I will admit I don’t know a lot about the topic and have had to do a lot of research. I am writing with Tashylnne on the topic of “Is our election system fair?” We are agreeing with this statement and trying to prove it as best as possible. Our voting system set in place is how our founding fathers wanted our government to be run and who are we to change that. They knew that was the best course of action for our country. Also, the way the electoral college is set up now, it still allows the smaller states to have a say in voting for president. If the president was voted through a popular vote, the larger states would basically control the entire government. Throughout the next week, we plan to do more research to further prove our point.
My thoughts for the argumentation essay are early in the process, but coming together quite well. I am writing my essay with my partner, Jessica Blachowski, debating against "country life is better than city life". Jessica and I are debating again Ethan Wright and Tucker Trout. Both Jessica and I have lived in the city our whole lives and have a good grasp of the positives and negatives of a city lifestyle. Most of our ideas have a focus on finding the assets of both. By learning the positive and negative assets of both city and country living, we can get a better grasp on how to efficiently debate our points. I think we have a great start in developing our ideas to create an awesome debate! I believe both parties are educated on their sides and it will come together nicely. I'm excited to see where this essay takes us.
I think my argumentative essay is going well now, but it was difficult choosing a topic. My group was settled on a few controversies at first, but then we decided that we all agree on most of them. We were going to argue the old Lebron vs. MJ dispute but realized that MJ is the G.O.A.T. We pretty much agreed on most sports-related topics, which is what we wanted to write about. We decided to argue another category and realized we had perfect disagreements on the best holiday. Will and I will be defending Christmas being the best holiday. Cole and Ben are defending the Fourth of July. I am confident we have good points to make. This topic may seem a little petty, but I am interested in seeing the points that our opponents will make. The argument will not have a clear winner or loser, but the goal is to have fun with it and convince people with well thought out ideas.
My thoughts for my argumentative essay are coming together quite well. Luke Higgins and I are going to be writing about how a crisis can have a positive effect or benefit a person's life. We discussed it today in class which helped us to spark many different thoughts and ideas on both sides of the argument. We will now be able to use more information to support our ideas from the debate held today. We were also able to see some of the counter-arguments to our points and we will be able to counter those in our essay. We will be able to add personal experiences to back up our statement in this essay. Luke and I both believe in this topic and we will be able to get plenty of information and personal experiences in our essay to make the readers believe that we are correct. We were lucky in my opinion to have been able to volunteer to discuss our topic in class because it gave us more ideas. Our thoughts for this argumentative essay are coming together very well.
So far, my thoughts are not coming together at all. As a matter of fact, I just found out on Tuesday that Miles Hemelstrand will be my partner for the argumentation essay. We also found out today that we will be debating Grant Gunderson and Jimmy Hoffman. I am not exactly sure what we will be debating yet, but I am fine debating anything. During class today, we were given the chance to debate. Having a debate today was beneficial for writing our essays. It gave us more creative power and the ability to think outside the box. Hearing both sides of the argument is also a great way of obtaining different ideas on how to approach the essay. Different strategies were also thought of during the debate. It really changed my view on things, because I listened to the opposing side of the argument. Even though it has started a little slow, my thoughts and essay will come together in the next couple of days.
I still have to do some research over my topic before I can really sink my teeth into writing our argumentative essay. The topic of debate for our essay is if Socialism is good form of government. Luckily I was chosen to be on the offensive side against Socialism. I believe there will be, overall, more research going against Socialism then for it. I have never had to write my thoughts on anything political before though so this will be a new experience for me and a way for me to improve how I word my opinions. We have started the essay but I think I need to do more research in order to effectively back up our claims on why Socialism can be detrimental to American society. While I can’t say on super passionate over the topic it will be interesting writing about something I would normally never write about.
My thoughts are definitely coming along; however, they are fairly widespread. We are having trouble getting sold on a topic. We have looked into many, and have found good information on multiple topics. I have developed opinions on both sides for the topics we have found. As someone who doesn’t usually feel the most comfortable sharing opinions when I have them, this has been surprisingly easy. My thoughts have come quickly and I am fairly confident in them all. Putting them into words and expanding them shouldn’t be difficult. Finding sound reasoning to back them up will hopefully result similarly. Not only am I building opinions well, but I am enjoying it. Standing firm in a belief and trying to sell it is quite therapeutic and a good skill for me to practice. Although, for my thoughts to come together adequately and fully, I need to focus on one topic. That is a fast-paced work-in-progress.
My thoughts are increasing by the moment, for my argumentation essay. My argumentation essay is written on the principle of whether hard obstacles or crisis within our lives make us stronger or weaker. Today in class we were able to debate over whether they improved our lives or made them worse and with that came many new ideas and thoughts I would have never thought about. Many of these were honestly enlightening to the process in which I was thinking about my essay. I was on the side that crisis makes us better as a whole and this was subjected to many forms of examples and stories. I have been contemplating what stories I can take from within my life to use as examples or context within my essay. And this introspection has made me contemplate how this essay will read and perform. I want to make this essay accomplished and argue my point clearly. Mr. Christensen implored the use of chess. And with these few helpful terms, I think this will improve my essay because it gives structure and objectives. I hope to make my essay entertaining and educating.
My thoughts for the argumentative essay are coming along very well as I have been surveying Google Scholar to find statistics about the NDSU Football Dynasty. Ryan Barker and I are taking on Ethan Kjenstad and Dayne Peyton to decide whether the Alabama Football Dynasty or the NDSU Football Dynasty is more prestige. Ryan and I are siding with NDSU. This is a huge controversy as they are both Division 1 schools but NDSU is an FCS Football school while Alabama is FBS. There are definitely many arguments to be made for both sides, which will fare for a really interesting debate. I am looking forward to finding more statistics about the NDSU Football program and the dynasty that they have made the last decade and also finding points that go against Alabama as a better dynasty. It will be really important for our group to think from our opposer's point of view and try and find more points to refute them to win this argumentative essay. Either way, this essay will be fun to do about a topic we both love.
My thoughts for the argumentative essay is slowly picking steam. At first, we (Mike, Cole, Ben and I) struggled with coming up with a topic. We thought it would be a good idea to debate who the best NBA player of all time is, MJ of Lebron. I did not care about the subject and Chev Ben and Mike all thought MJ was the best so that idea was short-lived. We then thought about debating if Batman or Superman was better... that did not end well as we concluded there was zero chance we got the page requirement for that topic. Then what we eventually decided on debating was which holiday is better. The choices are Christmas or the 4th of July in which Mike and I will be debating why Christmas is better than the 4th of July going against Cole and Ben. Ultimately they're both fun but this will just shed light on two differing opinions which we are open and responsive too.
I think my ideas are coming along well with the help of my partner, McKenzie. We will be arguing against Austin and Braden on the topic of curfews. We plan to discuss if curfews truly help kids stay out of trouble, or if it is not even a concern to them. Many high schoolers can relate to staying out past curfew and getting into all sorts of trouble. Some students, however, obey the curfew and head home as soon as the clock strikes. At the age we are, we all have curfews; therefore, giving us all a vast knowledge of what it entails. It ultimately comes down to whether we follow it or not. Researching deeper into this topic and gaining a broader view will strongly benefit our essay––it will also give us a variety of different arguments and points to make. Additionally, we plan to take surveys in our own high school to gain a further perspective of those that attend our school.
My ideas for my argumentative essay are coming along pretty well I would say. I am doing my essay with Emily Wendt and I feel we both strongly agree with the side we have chosen for our topic. Our topic is Does 16 and Pregnant promote or discourage teen pregnancy. We both talked about it and we have come up with a lot of reasons the show has really promoted it. There are obviously ways that it has discouraged it but I strongly believe the promotion outweighs the discouraging by far. I personally do not think something like that should be broadcasted all over the nation about a 16-year-old girl. They are still kids and I do not think that they realize how the show could play a role in their lives at that age. There are many other reasons besides that and I think that all of our reasons can be very strong points in our essay and really sway the reader to our side and to think about our opinion on the topic that we chose.
I am in a little bit of a gray area right now with my thoughts. The thing is my partner and I are still trying to decide on the topic that we want to argue. In regards to the question, however, my ideas are coming together. I mean that in the sense that I have a ton of different ways with which I could attack the topics that we are pondering. Then, when we do pick a topic, I can fully get all of my ideas out on the page. So far, Jimmy and I are brainstorming three topics. The first is whether or not you need religion in life to find happiness. I think that topic is good because I feel like there is always someone to argue about it. Another idea that we had was whether or not the movie industry is dying. I feel like I would do really well in this topic and find good reasons to support either side whether it is recent box office hits, or constant reboots and remakes. Lastly, for our third idea, it is whether Theatre should be a sport or not. That topic just hits closer to home with me, so I feel like it is something I could argue in favor of really well.
My thoughts for my argumentative essay are coming through very well. I have thought of many points that I will try to make clear throughout the duration of my essay. I have many different sources and different studies that I plan on using to make my essay the best it can be. We have a good opening paragraph that introduces the points we are going to make. Our sources show specifically how money cannot make you happy, and even some ways that can make you happy. I am very excited about this topic, I think it is important for people to know about. Mental health problems can be caused because of a lack of happiness, people should know not to rely on money for their happiness. Rather, they can have experiences in their lives that will add to their happiness long term. Over the next few weeks, I hope to get more sources that benefit our essay and win the argumentative essay debate.
My thoughts for my argumentary are coming together very well. Dylan and I are writing about how money can not buy you happiness. While Emily and Brianna are saying how money can buy you happiness. We are going to research things that make someone happy and notice how it will never last and in the end, will just make them feel worse than they did in the beginning. Also, we will be looking at their google doc to see what we can find flaws in their essay. We will elaborate and explain how their viewpoint is wrong and explain to the readers we are right and persuade them as well. Over the next few weeks, we will be doing research and hope to perswade the readers the right way with all the statistics we will provide as well as all the evidence to support our essay. Also with our work cited page so anyone can go check any site out for any further answers.
My thoughts on my argumentative essay are coming along very well. Our topic is the con of homework with my partner Jackson. We found a lot of common ground between us when choosing the con side of this topic. The topic is pretty broad which makes room for a lot of evidence and solid reasoning to back up our side. I have started to research other countries and how their education system works to compare to ours. I am looking at how some schools have homework while others don't and looking at the results of intelligence. Another big aspect that homework puts on someone is impacting their health. Homework tends to increases as you go on throughout life and you start to get a job adding more stress and anxiety into your life. Both of us are students so we are primary sources for how homework can really impact us while we look online to find statistics to support our argument.
I thought I had it all planned out but Mr. Christensen showed me a different, broader way to look at things. I am going to change my argument slightly. My topic, children shows, has many different quirks and qualities to it. I have more understanding of counter-arguments than I did before because of the argument in class. I am very excited to write this argumentation. There are certain aspects of the essay that I do not agree with; however, for the sake of keeping the argument constant, I will argue for them. This is something I am looking forward to because it will help me understand another point of view. This will greatly help me with the future. Understanding another persons side helps you know what someone is thinking. It also gives you wisdom with your counter-arguments. Since I have a clear argument and potential claims and counters, I feel very confident in my writing. I would say that things are coming together well.
For our argumentation essay, Abby and I are exploring the topic of children's shows including negative messages and how they are harmful to children. In the class debate on Thursday, our topic was used as the subject. There were points brought up from each side and they were all pretty interesting. I tended to agree more with the con side, but for this essay, I will try to do my best to defend the pro side, This helped us see both sides of the argument since everyone contributed their opinions on the subject. We have not had much time to write our essay, but are using this time to research and come up with counterpoints so that the points discussed in our essay are strong. This is a difficult topic since it could go either way and has some gray area. Parenting styles vary which changes how every single child views TV shows, media, and more. Although we may struggle with a few details, learning how to debate and defend something you may not agree with is always beneficial in life.
With Dayne Peyton as my partner, we are arguing why the Alabama football dynasty is better than the NDSU football dynasty. For this essay, we are taking on Thomas Scholten and Ryan Barker. They are siding with NDSU. Our thoughts are starting to come together well. We have been researching a lot about the history of Alabama football and are starting to have a pretty good argument. I am excited to argue over this topic because it interests me a great deal. Looking at the statistics, it would appear that Alabama has an edge over NDSU in a lot of categories, so I am curious to see how they will refute our arguments. If you're a college football fan, you’d know that FCS vs. FBS is a highly debated topic. I am looking forward to doing more research and building a stronger argument. This essay will be very fun and we will settle this argument once and for all!
I am writing about whether the 4th of July of Christmas is a better holiday. Cole Sylliaassen is my partner and we are going against the duo of Will Campbell and Mike Chevalier. We had trouble finding a topic and only yesterday we figured out the topic we are going to write about. Originally Cole and I were going to defend Micheal Jordan as the greatest basketball player ever and they were going to defend Lebron James. Mike and Will ended up backing out and wanting a different topic because they realized Jordan is much better. We settled on the 4th of July vs Christmas and what is the better holiday. Cole and I are defending on the 4th of July. I am excited about this because the 4th is my favorite holiday. It is by far a better holiday because everything Christmas does the 4th of July can do better.
With my partner being Sophie Van Horn, we are debating if social media and phones are affecting and changing relationships. We agree that they do affect relationships and it can be beneficial. Our thoughts are starting to come together pretty well. We have researched the effects of relationships involving technology and we have found several points that help us prove that it can affect one positively. In this case, the relationships don't have to be romantic relationships. For example, if you are involved in a long-distance relationship with a significant other, or even have close friends or family members living further away, technology can be very beneficial. Technology gives you opportunities to talk to one another while being miles away from each other. This makes people seem so much closer to you, even when they aren't. In all, this essay will turn out very well and we will include a strong argument.
As of right now, I haven’t really started my research for this essay. Our topic is on whether it is a bystander's responsibility to get involved or not when there is trouble. This proves to be quite a topic that is heavily reliant on opinions, but there is definitely room for research. This isn't something that I am super opinionated on, so I'm going to have to think somewhat out of the box for this one to be able to develop a strong argument. My partner and I work together well so I don't think it will be that much of a problem. We have our base but the work is yet to be truly started. Researching will prove to be an interesting job, my hope is that there will be some studies that refer to human nature and the flight or fight phenomenon. All in all, my thoughts are all over the place, but the general idea is there.
A perfect way to explain how my thoughts are coming together is loosely. Having just found a partner and group to argue with in the past few days, I have a very rough idea of what our topic could be. I am trying to consider both sides of the argument for our potential topic, not only because I do not yet know which side I will be arguing for, but also because I will be more prepared to make counter-arguments based on what those on the opposing side use to prove their point. However, I cannot be entirely prepared at this point as the group I am in has not decided on a topic with certainty as of writing this. I only hope I am able to find the flaws in my opponents arguments and utilize them to make the argument of my partner and I stronger and more persuasive.
I am going to be debating whether or not technology is affecting people's relationships. We will go over all the different types of relationships and how it would affect them. I think this is a good subject to write about because it has so much impact on our everyday lives so why not discuss how its really affect everyone. I am partnering up with Katie for this essay and we've briefly talked about some key points to make throughout the essay. I have to do a lot more research to be able to debate this really well but so far so good. Like everything else, technology has its good and bad aspects so it's going to be interesting to see what we come up with. We will be debating against Sophie and Olivia. Overall I am really excited about this debate because I think both sides could make some good points.
As of now, our essay is just beginning to come together. We have had a couple of topic changes throughout the past couple of days because we just needed a certain topic that we can all expand on with there being many pros and cons with our topic. The topic me and Braden settled on with Kenzie and Alyssa were: Is Life 360 an invasion of privacy? Braden and I are saying that it is not and that it is okay for parents to track their kids for their own safety. Kenzie and Alyssa say that it is an invasion of privacy to the kids. I have some experience with this app, so hopefully, I will be able to bring up some flaws in the opposing arguments that will shake them a little and hopefully allow them to have difficulty responding. Our work has not kicked off too much yet, but over the next couple of days or weeks we will get the snowball rolling and we will be making more than enough progress.
Ethan Kjenstad and I are arguing why Alabama is a bigger football dynasty than North Dakota State University. Ethan and I are taking on Ryan Barker and Thomas Scholten. They are stating that North Dakota State University is the better dynasty. We have started to get our thoughts to come together. We have been researching the history of Alabama football. Our argument thoughts are starting to form well. I am excited to debate this topic because college football interests me. Ethan and I believe that Alabama has the edge on North Dakota State University in many categories. However, I am excited to see how NDSU ranks up to Alabama. FCS vs. FBS is very highly debated in the college football world. The research for this essay is very interesting and fun because we get to look at college football stats. This essay should be very fun to write about and we are excited to see who has the better argument.
My thoughts in my argument essay are starting to come together, but I do not think that it is nearly as close nit as I would like it to be. There are some gaps that I would like to cover, I also think that I could write more when the opposing party writes more and gives me points to argue about. I also have not found as many sources that I would like to have, because it may limit my view of my argument. I do however in light of this I believe that I have a good idea of what I am going to be arguing for. The reason for this is that I have done some research on this topic beforehand and I also have my own opinions and thoughts on the topic with stories and life experiences. I also believe that my partner has also helped me clear up my view on our topic.
My thoughts in the argumentation essay are coming together very well. I have a lot of different ideas and standpoints on the topic that college athletes should not be paid. I have various tactics I will use such as statistics and exposing how many other ways that college athletes are compensated. When we debated the topic in class on Thursday, I was also able to get quite a few ideas that the opposing side would use as arguments and am prepared with ideas to politely and respectfully refute their claims. Some of the most compelling ideas that I plan to use is that athletes are recieving an expierience for free where as other students are paying upwards of 40,000 dollars a year to go to the same school. A counter argument that I am ready to refute is that athletes do not have enough time to get money for extra things. In contrast the students that do have time to get a job are working to pay for their tuition and bills and do not have money to just spend on a new pair of shoes or eating out all of the time. I am excited to argue my stance on the topic and hopefully convince others to see it my way as well.
For my argumentation essay, Sydney and I are going to be arguing Ella and Kylie about whether or not organ donating should be required. We have not gotten far on our essay but we have some ideas about what to write about. One idea is that not a lot of people trust doctors with their bodies and don't trust them enough to take their organs out of them after death. Another reason is that a lot of religions don't allow organ donations after death and wouldn't want to go against their religion. The last main reason is that a study said that doctors are more likely to nor try and do everything they can for you if you are about to die if you are an organ donor because they know that your organs will be donated, but if you aren't an organ donator then they will try and do everything. It is just what a study shows and a lot of people have read it and believed it.
My thoughts are coming decently well together for the argumentation essay. I have spent a few hours now gathering and looking at research for my topic on that experimenting medicine on animals/humans is ethically correct or not. Currently, I believe that testing medical drugs on humans is not ethically correct, just because of the side effects and problems that could arise from it. I am still trying to find sources on this topic that I can use to back up my opinion on this topic. Specifically, scholar articles and statistics about the effects and outcomes that testing these new medical drugs on people can and have caused. Most of the articles that I have found are from the Center for Disease Control and they support the testing of medical drugs on humans/animals after in-depth research. These articles are starting to help me form my thoughts and ideas on this topic.
My thoughts on my partner and I's argumentative essay are coming along well. Emily and I decided to debate the topic of "Are bystanders responsible for interfering when there is trouble?" We have started brainstorming and have come up with some good topics to go off of. I think we have a strong topic and will be able to find a lot of good information about it. We are on the pro side of this topic and we believe you should intervene. A few reasonings that we have come with are guilt, if the roles were reversed what would you do, and religion. I think if you were in trouble and people were standing around watching, how would you feel? Would you want someone to at least call 911 for you or would you want them to walk away.
After my group struggled to decide on a topic for the argumentative essay, we finally decided to do it on whether it is ethical or unethical to test on animals. My thoughts ave not yet started on the topic. My partner Brooke and I are arguing on why testing on animals is unethical. Our opponents, Braden and Jeremy, are arguing on why testing on animals is ethical. I have not yet started researching on the topic yet. I personally believe that writing on this topic will be more difficult. I believe that testing on animals is unethical but I also do not know what else would be tested on because I think that testing on humans is also unethical. I believe that if I start to do some more research on the topic it could help change my views. I think that becoming more educated on the topic will help my thoughts.
Thoughts for my argumentation essay have been coming along nicely. It was easy to find a topic to discuss because my partner, Livy, and I signed up with a group who had already chosen a topic. We are going to argue whether or not social media affects people positively. The two of us have started to think about all of the positive pieces of social media and how it affects our lives. With research, we have found that there are many different beneficial and helpful things that can come from Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Tinder, etc. Some things that benefit the most of social media are long distance relationships, and keeping in contact with people who are not close in location to you. Dating sites also allow people to create relationships and bonds with others, and these relationships can later cause a loving and supportive connection. Social media also provides a way for people to share their beliefs and thoughts on a public platform, and to discuss what they think with others.
I am excited to write the argumentation essay. I think that discussing controversial topics can lead to some interesting discoveries. My partner for this essay is Tanna Lehfeldt. We are writing against Kylie Felderman and Ella Simonson. At first we, as a group, have had some difficulty trying to figure out a topic to argue and dispute about. We finally chose our topic, that being, if donating organs should be required or not. Ella and Kylie are for organ donation. Tanna and I are opposing them. This does not mean that this is my personal view. I think that there will be plenty of information on this topic because it is such a sensitive one. I am happy with our topic and I am excited to dispute it.
It has been hard to write this argumentation essay. I have never been one to argue my side for anything, and don't have very many feelings on topics. It took my partner and me a long time to figure out what we were going to debate. We finally picked a topic, but I still have no clue what I am doing. I love writing different things and hope that as soon as I start writing it will be better. Our topic, "Life is better unplugged", is about how the world around us is better when we stop looking at the big glowing box in our hands. I honestly don't use my phone a lot and am on the pro side of this topic. I feel as though our lives would be better if everyone took more time to live their lives and not worry about their phones. I can't wait to see how this essay turns out!
Argumentation is something that I have always been good at because I am the most argumentative person I know. My thoughts on this essay are not together in any way, as I have a lot going on, and I can't focus on a thing. It also doesn't help that it took us a week and a half to even pick a topic, and discussed so many that I barely even remember what topic we picked in the first place. In conjunction with this essay, I have also been trying to work on both the Causal and the Narration essay at the same time, resulting in getting nothing done at all because my brain spirals into chaos as soon as I get even remotely overwhelmed with anything. basically, I sat in bed all weekend panicking that I need to get my essays done, but since there was so much to do and my brain hates me, panicking was all I did, instead of actually starting on anything. It has been absolutely great, and the doctor's office still hasn't called to give my parents a counseling referral or to change my Adderall prescription into something that actually works. Instead, I just hang out with friends to avoid the fact that as soon as I work on any homework, I just think about how much I have, then I panic and do nothing.
The argumentation essay should be a fun one. With my partners Payton DeJong and Jorey Sorenson, we are going to defend the fact that homework is helpful. I say that it should be a fun one because we have all meshed our ideas together really well, and I believe that it will be very difficult for Braden Skow and Jackson Bruggeman to defeat us. I also believe that while doing this research as a student, it has really told me how important it is for us to be doing helpful things such as homework. Like this blog task, for example, helps us get our thoughts and opinion down somewhere, instead of letting them go to waste inside of our own heads. This essay should be a very fun one, and I am ecstatic to see what our opposition comes up with, so we can all really see who is the winner of this argument.
