1) Why might this course be called "Introduction to Literature"? Haven't you been properly "introduced" to literature already?
2) What do you anticipate will happen during our study of The Lion King and literary criticism/theory?
3) Do you think you are--or have been--a Feminist critic, Marxist critic, or Psychoanalytic critic?
4) How do you anticipate Term Tuesdays will change? (Click "Term Tuesdays" to see the terms laid out for each Tuesday this semester.)
5) Who is this man pictured here?

1) I would guess that this class is called "Introduction to Literature" because, for all intents and purposes, this is an introduction to literature. Although we have been introduced to classical and modern literature by previous teachers, we will learn to look at it from different literary lenses and criticisms this semester.
2) I anticipate that we will be able to understand the subtle undertones of the The Lion King better.
3) I believe that I am and have been a psychoanalytic critic and a feminist critic.
4) I would guess that our term Tuesdays will focus more on literary terms instead of grammatical classification terms. Other than that I would expect it to stay the same. However, I could be wrong.
Up to this point, no English class has had a main perspective on just literature. This class will provide a proper introduction to literature. I expect our study of the lion king to smoothly and we as a class will learn the literary techniques used in the Lion King and apply it to other stories such as The Lord of the flies and The One Who Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I know I am a Marxist critic, I judge stories from a power status standpoint. I expect the term Tuesdays to expand, for literature is broad topic and demands for more information to be covered.
5) I seem to have missed question number five in my initial assessment of the blog. This man is William Carlos Williams.

1. I think that this course may be called "Introduction to Literature" because although we have already been introduced to literature, I believe we will be introduced to a higher level and understanding of literature.
2. I am not really sure what I anticipate if I am being completely honest.
3. I think that I have been a Psychoanalytic critic before, but not always.
4. I think that Term Tuesdays will become not about terms to help our writing, rather terms that will help us understand the literature that we read instead.
5. The man in the picture is Herbert Leibowitz.

I feel this class is called Introduction to Literature because we will dig deep into the works. I think the literature in this class will be more complex and harder to wrap your head around it. The literature we have been involved with before was more simple. I anticipate we will digest and search for many literature ideas worked into The Lion King. I think I am a Marxist critic. I anticipate Term Tuesdays will be more specific and have a close relation to literature ideas and mechanics. The man pictured is William Carlos Williams.
5. That is William Carlos Williams, the author.
1.) It will teach us a new viewpoint to literature and help us see a different side that we could have never seen before. I have been introduced to literature, by reading, but not in the in depth way this class is going to teach me.
2.) I anticipate that I will learn things about the Lion King that I did not even know existed before this class. I hope this opens my eyes to see hidden meanings that I would never have seen on my own.
3.) I do not think I am a Feminist, Marxist, or Psychoanalytic critic, because when I read or watch movies I do not view them in the way that there are hidden meanings or messages, but for the pure enjoyment of reading and watching.
4.) Term Tuesdays will be more on how to read and view literature. It will talk about the types of literature and how we should read them.
5.) The man in this picture is William Carlos Williams. He is an American poet that specialized in modernism.

1) Even though we have previously read other novels in other classes, this class will introduce us to a new way to understanding and interpreting literature. Therefore, this class is named ""Introduction' to Literature".
2) I assume we will be stopping the movie after short periods of time in order to have class discussion about various literary devices used in the movie.
3) At some point, I have been all three. I am able to recognize problems within these realms when they arise.
4) I think Term Tuesdays will involve more reading to view authors' techniques within the text instead of six or seven literary devices tacked on with their definition.
5) This man is William Carlos Williams, an American poet who focused on modernism.

1. I believe that this course is called "Introduction to Literature" because it will be our first attempts at seriously analyzing and interpreting classic and modern literature. We have done very basic analyzing of literature in past years but being as this is a college class I believe Mr. C will not shelter anything from us and we will be allowed to explore all aspects of our minds. I do not believe we will be considered "experts" by the end of this course, but we will certainly be much more knowledgeable.
2. Seeing as I did not care for "The Lion King" as I child I am anticipating that when I analyze it as a young adult I may find a deeper appreciation or humor in the film. I think we will learn how to analyze film and novels from the movie by not looking at the face value of what is being said but by how things are said or what is implied.
3. I think I am a Physchoanalytic critic because when I read the definitions of each critic that is the one I felt I wrote most like.
4. I think that the concept of the Term Tuesdays will stay the same in the idea that two students will teach the class about certain terms or ideas each Tuesday. However, when looking at the term I think the students who are teaching for that particular Tuesday will be teaching more concepts rather than definitions of words. I think this will be harder than memorizing the definitions from first semester.
5. This is William Carlos, an American poet.
1)I believe this course is called "Introduction to Literature" because, although we have studied literature for many years in our English classes, it gives us an introduction into higher level analyses of literature.
2)I anticipate that we will read into and analyze symbols from The Lion King, and we will study in depth, the techniques of literary criticism.
3)I do believe that I have been a Marxist critic because it was an actual assignment for me to be so in Honors 11.
4)I anticipate that Term Tuesdays will focus more on literary terms rather than on composition terms; the terms will pertain to certain aspects/tools of literary criticism rather than tools used in writing.
5)The man pictured is William Carlos Williams.
This class may be called “Introduction to Literature” because all though we have been given books to read throughout school, we have either not been told to analyze what these books meant, or we were told to analyze what they meant and were forced to look at it through one lens that the teacher chose. I suspect in this class we will be able to begin to look at literature from our own perspective. During our study of The Lion King, I think we will begin to practice expanding our thoughts and perceptions of different works. I do not think I have been any one of those critics. I also do not think term Tuesday will change. The man pictured is William Carlos Williams.
I do not know what we are being introduced to, because I feel that Literature is already been introduced to me throughout my kindergarten through to the present education. I feel that literature has been apart of my education every single year, but, I suppose, there is always more to learn. With studying the Lion King I believe that we will discuss each scene in depth and look at the movie from different views. I also believe that there will be much debating and conversing about the topics. I think that term tuesdays will now be about literature techniques instead of grammar. I do not know who the pictured man is on the blog task but I am assuming he is important in our discussions.
This is called introduction to literature because instead of just reading literature like I have done in the past for enjoyment I will be asked to analyze the text in ways I have never done before. It will be an introduction into the different ways a novel can be analyzed and viewed. Having talked to graduates that excelled in this class, they explained how I will view the Lion King in a different mindset and the childish ways I watched it will no longer exist. I am eager to analyze the Lion King. I remember last year in Mrs Sazama's Honors 11 class we had to complete a group project where we analyzed The Great Gatsby in either a feminist, marxist, or psychoanalytic way. However, that is the only exposure I have to those. This semester the Term Tuesdays will be words that will be of importance in literary criticism, not really grammar vocabulary words like last semester. These words are also words that I have never been exposed to before this class. The man in the picture is William Carlos William.
While we have been introduced in a basic sense to literature, this class will take us further in depth than ever before using works that are new to the majority of us. I think this class is called an “introduction” to literature because it is going to be far more advanced and in depth than we have previously experienced, and so for us most things will be new. Also, we will be introduced to authors, stories, and strategies that we’ve never learned before. I think our study of The Lion King will show how these theories can be applied to stories that we’ve been familiar with since childhood, not just books written by long-dead authors. I think this discussion will most likely make us all look at The Lion King with new eyes.
From those three options, I would say I am more of a feminist critic when I read; however, I don’t often really analyze the things I casually read on my own time.
Term Tuesdays look like they will be more in depth covering less terms. The terms seem to be less vocabulary and more different strategies and tools that we will use when reading.
This man is William Carlos Williams, according to Google.
I think that this course is titled "Intro to Literature" because it is our first reading class for college. Of course, we have been introduced to literature already; we simply have not delved into it as college students. I am hoping for lots of debates and new ideas to show from our class. I am usually intrigued by discussions such as these, so I cannot wait to start. I have been a positive feminist, and I have critiqued Marxism and Psychoanalysis, so I would say that yes, I am a critic on those subjects. From what I can see, Term Tuesdays will not be that different. They seem to use literary devices instead of grammatical devices. Plus, the people in our class has changed, so partners will have different tastes on how they present. A Google search tells me that the man pictured is of William Carlos Williams. It seems that there is a book written about him, and I am semi-intrigued by the title: "Something Urgent I Have to Say to You": The Life and Works of William Carlos Williams. I might have to read about what may be so "urgent". I cannot wait to see what this class may bring.
A peruse through this semester’s Term Tuesday terms would show that I have not been properly introduced to literature. Literature is more complex than simply reading a book and understanding the content. Literature is diving deeper into why the author wrote what they did, what experiences allowed for them to create and mold the story they did. Beyond the creative aspects, there appear to be rules, or patterns more so, that are followed. The rules/patterns are laid out to be known and understood, but are not necessarily an entity to be followed. This introduction course, I assume, is to instruct on why a novel is written, and how it is written.
I expect Mr. C to fully ruin a beloved Disney movie via our study of _The Lion King_. This is mostly based on students from previous years providing their own outlook on the experience.
I believe I have been a Marxist critic, as I always compare fairness.
The terms for this semester’s Term Tuesdays are more aimed toward literature, rather than composition. Interesting.
A simple Google image search reveals that the man pictured is William Carlos Williams. His parents were not very good at naming.
This course may be called Introduction to Literature because, if we were in a college setting, this would be our first introduction to college literature. We have been introduced to literature, but not college literature. During the studying of The Lion King, I predict I will never experience this movie the same way ever again, or any other Disney movie for that matter. We will analyse and debate the movie until it will never be the same again. I believe I have been a feminist critic. It may be easier for women to notice this due to us being, well, female. If I do not see the writing to be equal to both women and men, I see it as anti-feminist. I have also found that I can be a Marxist critic. In works in which their is a pauper like character, I often find myself feeling sorry for them or thinking they put it upon themselves. This is unfair considering it may not have been their fault. I also notice myself being a Psychoanalytic critic. If I know a lot about an author, I can tie their settings to their real life settings and their characters to people they may have encountered. I anticipate the Term Tuesdays changing. They seem to consist of topics about literature rather than grammar. The picture is of William Carlos Williams. He was a poet of the early 1900's and became well known during the mid 1900's.
Although I have been introduced to literature already, I feel that this course will perhaps offer a new perspective and deeper understanding of the popular novels and literary pieces I have already heard of or read myself.
During our study of The Lion King I honestly expect to be mind-blown. I have been looking forward to taking part in this activity since I first heard mention of it a few years ago. I hope to see things I never have before, learn to study more in depth and increase my analytical skill level.
I feel that in the past I have been a Feminist critic. I went through a very pro-feminism stage about a year ago where I would see unequal treatment of men and women in just about everything I saw. Since then, my personal views have expanded and I feel that my critical views have as well.
When it comes to Term Tuesdays for this semester I anticipate there will be less emphasis on grammatical terms and more on the literary devices we will use.
The man pictured is William Carlos Williams, an American poet that is closely associated with imagism and modernism.

I believe that it is called "Introduction to literature" because we will go in depth into the books we read and understand them at a college level. I anticipate that we will learn a lot with our Lion King literary criticism. I think that I am a Psychoanalytic critic. I believe that the Term Tuesdays will be full of great information that will prepare us for the next final exam. Similarly to last semester, I think Tuesdays will be interesting and something that is very useful to all of us. The man in the picture is William Carlos.
Eitreim Period 2
I believe that the reason for this course’s name is that many of us aren’t well acquainted with the process of reading literature. Through school and other sources we may have read classic books, but without discussing them or knowing how to look at them we don’t gain as much insight from them. I think that this course will provide our class with the tools to look critically at literature and decipher meanings.
During our study of The Lion King I expect us to learn about various critical “lenses” and how to use them to benefit our understanding of a work. By applying these lenses to The Lion King, we will probably find meanings and symbols that would be lost on an ordinary viewer.
I don’t believe that I have ever been a specific kind of critic like Marxist or Feminist.
I think that our term tuesday presentations will have fewer terms but be more in depth. I think they will be based more on concepts and ideas than the writing techniques and sentence structures that were taught last semester.
The man pictured is William Carlos Williams, an American poet.
This course could be called Introduction to Literature because it is an introduction to the literature of this class. It will also be the start of looking into literature more deeply. Introduction to college literature could also be a reason. This class will be more in depth and finding deeper means. I believe that we as a class will find many hidden ideas in The Lion King. Some have leaked out already so I look forward to what we can find. Maybe our class can even find ideas that have not been found yet. I am sure I have been a Feminist critic before. I have strong feelings about equality and women being treated fairly. I will find in books or movies sexist language or ideas and will discuss them with my mother. My mother and I analyze movies all the time. We stop and ask each other questions or talk about what scenario had just happened. Term Tuesdays will be more about literature than writing. The terms may be less familiar. The man in that picture is most likely smart and famous but I fail to know exactly who he is.
This course is an introduction into college level literature. I expect that we will be looking at the books from different points of view and theories. Before, we have only looked at books from our point of view and the point of view of the author during the time period in which he or she wrote the book. While we have been “introduced” to many different forms of literature already, we have not been “introduced” to the different literary criticisms and theories that are needed to fully understand what the author was intending when he or she wrote the book.
In our study of The Lion King, I anticipate that we will look at the movie from different points of view. We will notice more literary elements that were never noticeable as a child. It will no longer be just a children’s movie. I also anticipate that with the use of literary criticism and theory, we will learn how to view books from different viewpoints while still being able to have our own opinions about the books. I am excited to learn more about different literary criticisms and theories.
I believe that I am a psychoanalytic critic and sometimes a feminist critic.
Looking at the Term Tuesday words for this semester, I am realizing that I do not know what a lot of these words mean. I expect that we will be looking at more literary elements instead of grammatical terms.
The man pictured is William Carlos Williams who was an American poet.
1. I believe this course is called Introduction to Literature because every new work that you analyze needs an introduction. I have been introduced to literature already, but that was another piece of work.
2. I believe that our study of The Lion King and literary criticism/theory will lead to me discovering how much there is to know about movies, books, etc. that people usually do not pay any attention to. It will give me several perspectives that I had not considered before.
3. I believe that I have been a Psychoanalytic critic. From what I have researched, psychoanalytic critics interpret things based on what they have seen or experienced. I believe that I tend to interpret things based on what I have seen or experienced.
4. I think that Term Tuesdays will focus more on literary terms like plot and antagonist than sentence types and components used to compose a piece of literature.
5. I suspect that the man pictured is a literary critic.
This course might be called "introduction to literature" because we will be learning about literature. I don't believe I have been properly "introduced" to literature already. I anticipate that I will have a different view point during our study of The Lion King. I do believe that I have been a feminist critic, Marxist critic, and psychoanalytic critic at least once in my life. I think that the terms for Term Tuesdays will be about literature this course. The man in the picture is William Carlos Williams.

1. This class might be called "Introduction to Literature" because it teaches a new way to analyze literary works. In the past we have been "introduced" to literature, but we might not have thought about it in the same ways or considered the same parts important.
2. During our study of The Lion King, I think we will learn new ways to analyze literary devices. I think this study will help us to further understand why authors use certain techniques and how they affect the story.
3. I probably have been a feminist, marxist, or psychoanalytic critic without knowing. Hopefully after this study on The Lion King I will be able to better understand how to use these critical views in a way to better understand what I read.
4. Last semester, all of the Term Tuesdays related to writing essays. We studied many terms related to grammar and spent time on punctuation. This semester, I think the terms will relate more to literary devices used to tell stories instead of writing essays. Like last semester, I expect some terms to be familiar and others to be completely new.
5. I am not sure who the man in the picture is.
1. This course may be called 'introduction' to literature because the class explores different aspects of literature. The class will teach us new ways to analyze literature, both short and novel style.
2. During our study of the Lion King I expect to fully analyze symbolism that is intertwined in to the dialouge and the graphics. I think that this may assist us in understanding the meaning behind the Lion King as well as further develop our skills in noticing symbolism.
3. I most likely have been one of these types of a critic without really noticing. I hope that after this study of the Lion King I may come to be able to recognize these styles of criticism and be able to catch myself in the act.
4.I think that the term tuesdays will relate to more literary styles and devices. Last semester they related mostly to writing techniques and I hope that with literature the term tuesdays expand our knowledge into the literary stylings realm of things.
5.I am not sure, however I presume the man to have some significance to literature.
1. This class may be called "Introduction to Literature" because it will teach us how to analyze and break down literature and literary devices. In the past we have been introduced to literature, but this class with assist us in getting a greater understanding of why a book is written a certain way and why authors use different devices.
2. During the study of the Lion King I believe that we will learn to further understand the concept behind a authors writing.
3. I believe in the past I have been feminist critic if I had to choose from the three.
4. I believe Term Tuesdays will change in the sense of the content we will learn. Being, we will learn more about literary devices whereas before we learned more about writing concepts.
5. In all honesty I have no idea who the man pictured here is.
1.)This course may be called introduction to literature because this class is mainly based on studying works of literature and not other things. We have focused on literature before in other classes but I haven't had a class based on literature 100 percent of the time.
2.) I anticipate that I will look at The Lion King much differently after we study it.
3.)I would say that I am a Marxist critic. I tend to notice power struggles and different social orders in movies.
4.)There seems to a lot more term Tuesdays than last semester. I think that Term Tuesdays will become more specific.
5.)William Williams
1. I feel this course may be called intro to literature because we have not yet been properly introduced to literature. Therefor this course will teach us how to better analyze and interpret literature works.
2. What I will anticipate will happen is I will learn the symbolism of the movie. In turn this will teach me how to better analyze other works such as books.
3. I do not know which of these I am. Being a male I would have to say that I am not a feminist critic because I feel that it is from a woman's point of view.
4. I feel that term Tuesdays will change in a way that we will be introducing our peers to different ways of analyzing literature.
5. I am not sure who the man is. However he looks like Woodrow Wilson.
1. I am assuming that because this English class is called "Introduction to Literature" that it is going to be focusing primarily on literature. Also, I believe that this class will provide all of us with better knowledge of literature works.
2. During our study of The Lion King and literary criticism/theory, I believe that we will learn to further our understandings of why authors write in certain ways. We will also be able to look deeper into each literary work and recognize literary techniques.
3. I have probably been a Feminist critic, Marxist critic, and a Psychoanalytic critic at some point in my life. Hopefully this class will help me to better understand each of these terms.
4. I anticipate that Term Tuesdays will be focused more on literature terms rather than composition terms.
5. I am not sure who the man in the picture is but because of the name of this class I am guessing he is someone of importance in literature.
I would guess this class is called Intro. to Literature because even though we may have been introduced to literature, we may not have known it. I think we will go more in depth of literature instead of what the usual English courses have to offer.
I anticipate that I will learn quite a few things in the study of The Lion King. It has been ages since I have last watched the film but I hope to learn more of what the director is actually portraying.
I do not think I am any of those critics. I usually watch movies for pure entertainment but the only parts I judge would be the whole plot of the movie.
For one, I think the terms will be more complex than what we are use to seeing. I read the first few terms and I had no clue what they were. There will be more literary terms instead of grammatical.
The man pictured is William Carlos Williams.
Eichelberg pd. 6
1. I believe this class is called Introduction to Literature because it is meant to be a college class. Therefore if we had been taking it in college it would be the introduction into our college literature classes. It is the first stepping stone in the advancement of our literary skills that will be used through college.
2. I think studying the Lion King will be a good starting point for critically analyzing works of art because it is something most of us are already familiar with.
3. I think if anything I’ve been a slight Feminist critic although I was not fully aware of it and did not always use it when reading literature.
4. I think Term Tuesdays will be --instead of grammatical in nature-- more about literary techniques, terms, and how to critically analyze writings.
5. The man in the picture is the poet, William Carlos Williams.
1. I believe that this course is called "Introduction to Literature," because although we have been introduced to forms of literature in the past, this class will give literature a different meaning. This class will give a more in depth look on literature and show us a new side of it that may have been previously unseen.
2. I anticipate that during our study of The Lion King, we will come to realize new aspects and such in the movie that we have not noticed before. The literary criticism/theory will also give us more understanding of the movie as a whole as well.
3. I believe myself to be somewhat of a Feminist and psychoanalytic critic.
4. I anticipate Term Tuesdays to change in the aspect that the terms themselves will be less composition-based and more literature-based.
5. The man in the picture is William Carlos Williams, an American poet.
1. It is called Introduction to Literature because we do more than just read books upon books. We discuss and look closely at what the author is trying to tell the readers. Whether that be blatantly stated or more in-between the lines. We have been some what introduced, but this class will change some how they think about and read.
2. I believe we will go more in depth about why The Lion King was made and what the story is trying to depict. This will also help us look deeper into the thought process of the author and help us understand the story better.
3.I believe I am a Psychoanalytic because a lot of the time I base things off of personal experiences or memories.
4. I believe that the Term Tuesdays this semester will focus more in literary terms rather than grammatical ones. These terms will help us more with reading rather than writing.
5. The man pictured is William Carlos Williams.
I can't say I know for sure why this class is called "Introduction to Literature" and not just "Literature". If I had to guess (which I do), I'd say that it's because this class delves further into literature than any prior English class we've taken. In this class, literature is the main focus, not just one of multiple focuses throughout the semester. We're going to learn a whole bunch of type of literature and literary devices and techniques which we have not already learned in previous English classes because they don't dig deep enough to cover them.
During our study of The Lion King, I think I'll learn that there's more to movies -- even seemingly inconsequential children's cartoons -- than what lies on the surface.
I wouldn't say I'm any of the three listed types of critics now, but I distinctly remember an assignment we did last year in Honors 11 that required us to think from one of these viewpoints.
It appears that because the terms we're covering for Term Tuesdays are more complicated this semester than they were last semester, we are given less terms for each Term Tuesday. I also notice that there aren't as many terms in general this semester as there were last semester, and that the Term Tuesdays end well before graduation day. I don't anticipate the way in which Term Tuesdays are presented is going to change that much, just the material covered.
The man pictured is William Carlos Williams (I like William William Williams better.). He is most certainly a human being, seemingly of the male sex. Upon further review, I have ascertained that he is a New Jerseyan, which makes him an awful man (and I don't even know what he wrote).
I feel that this class is called Introduction to Literature because we are being shown, for the first time, methods and reasonings for higher level analysis. From now on, we will be able to read further into literature than we have before.
During our analysis of The Lion King, I believe that our eyes will be opened to the true story behind the classic children’s movie, and we will truly know just how deep and dark the transformation from a tale about lions becomes a tale of human nature.
I believe that I am both a Marxist and Psychoanalytic critic. However, I know that I am NOT a feminist critic, because I believe that, on a cellular level, men and women are different, and as such, one gender may be better suited to a task than the other, on the average. However, I do not want to enforce gender stereotypes.
I believe that term tuesdays will become more generic and open ended. That is, the terms we will be learning, instead of being applicable rules, will become subjective classification tools, allowing us to better pick apart and fully grasp what the author is trying to convey.
That man is William Carlos Williams.
Ashley Guthmilller Pd. 6
I think this course is called “Introduction to Literature” because we are being introduced to a new way of thinking about literature. We are beginning to thinking about it as a mindset of a college student.
I anticipate that we will study how to interpret the movie in hopes of preparing us so we can properly study the books we will read over the next semester.
I think we will learn about the symbolism (Simbalism) and the feminist criticisms.
I think I have been more of a Feminist and Psychoanalytic critic, not so much a Marxist critic. Although through the years at Brandon Valley I have been exposed to the different criticism viewpoints.
I think these term Tuesdays will help us so we have a more creative and open mind when reading and interpreting books.
The man in the photo is Williams Carlos Williams, a poet that was associated with modernism and imagism.
1) I believe this class is called “Introduction to Literature” because it is our first class to focus on the aspect of just studying literature. Yes, I believe we have already been introduced to literature, but maybe not to the extent that this class will take us.
2)With the study of the Lion King, I predict we will delve deep into subliminal messaging and different undertones into the story. I believe this will be a fun and engaging experience
3)No, I really do not think I have been any of these types of critics.
4)I think Term Tuesday will change to consisting of terms that will be more open ended, rather than the terms that deal with grammar and writing from last semester.
5)The man pictured is William Carlos Williams.

1. This class may be called "Introduction to Literature" because I think we will be asked to analyze the books assigned more in depth than we ever have been before.
2. I'm sure almost everybody in this class has watched The Lion King before and will probably notice things that we had never noticed before.
3. I'm sure I am a Feminist, Marxist, or Psychoanalytic critic at times without even realizing it.
4. I think Term Tuesdays will change by focusing on more literary terms instead of grammatical terms.
5. I'm not sure who the man pictured is but I have a feeling he is a literary critic of some sort.
Although we have been introduced to literature in the past, the way it has been analyzed is probably different. We know about what the concept of literature is, but we have not begun to look deep into the meaning behind literary works.
During our study of The Lion King, I anticipate that people will see things differently than they originally had when watching the movie as a child, watching it for pure enjoyment. If something is being analyzed rather than merely watched, many new ideas of the work may be brought out.
I feel as if at times I have been a Psychoanalytic critic. The way I believe literary works were created was through the subconscious of an author. Some ideas they create can have a dual meaning related to themselves, often without purpose.
I anticipate that term tuesdays will be more relatable to class, having to deal with the books we are reading at the time.
William Carlos Williams!
1.) I believe this class is called Introduction to Literature because we may have been "introduced" to literature before, however, none of us have taken a college class that involves literature. I believe this class will be an introduction to literature on a college level. A more advanced class would not be deemed as an introduction.
2.) During our study of The Lion King and literary criticism, I believe we will learn how to understand what is actually occurring and why it is occurring to a better extent. We will learn how to truly understand the meaning of the writing. We may learn why the author wrote it the way they did.
3.) I may have been a psychoanalytic critic before, because I always like to understand the motives behind the actions of the characters inside of a book.
4.) Last semester we learned a fair amount that dealt with grammatical techniques for writing an essay, thus the title of composition for the class. This semester I believe we will learn terms that relate to literature during the Term Tuesdays.
5.) I have no idea who the man in the picture is. I am sure he has something to do with literature.
1. I feel this class is not titled “Intro to Literature” because we haven’t been exposed to literature, but because we haven’t been exposed to certain types of literary analysis we will use in this class. We have obviously been exposed to literature since we began reading books in first grade. However, this will be my first time exposed to the devices of forums and scripts so I feel the “Intro” is appropriate in that aspect.
2. I anticipate that The Lion King analysis will be a very entertaining way to ease ourselves into the second semester. I feel that I belong to a class full of very intelligent students. That said, I believe we will be able to thoroughly analyze very different viewpoints. I anticipate that there may be some arguments and disagreements arising from the topics of the movie, but those only fuel debates that will encourage higher learning.
3.I feel that I definitely have been a feminist critic on many aspects, mainly because I am a female and I can relate to many of the experiences personally. However, I have had to be a Marxist critic in the past as an assignment. I had to analyze The Great Gatsby through a Marxist lens. I am also familiar with Freudian psychoanalytic analysis due to AP Psychology. I feel I will be able to identify the presence of the Id, Ego, and Superego throughout The Lion King.
4. I am a little nervous about Term Tuesday this semester because my former partner left the class. :(
5. I am having a hard time figuring out this man. My first guess would’ve been Sigmund Freud, but I do not believe that that is actually him.
This course might be cause Intro to literature because we finally discuss and critique each work of an author instead of filling out worksheets. We might have been introduced to great works by Fitzgerald and Shakespeare; Teachers told us what things meant instead of inferring ourselves of what it meant.
I anticipate my view of the Lion King will change immensely. I will view all movies through that lense of critique and analytical thought. I will become enlightened by all the thought that is put into a movie. Giving a taste of what I will be doing for each book I read and movie I see.
I think I have been lightly introduced to the Feminist critic but nothing else.
I think more ideas will be put into each term tuesday presentation. Nothing else will change (especially the treats).
The picture is of William Carol. He was an American poet. He was connected to the modernist movement of the time. Modernists were about finding new and fresh ideas and giving them life. Carol wanted to make an American type of poetry. This I find interesting.
This course “Introduction to Literature” perhaps means that we as students are being introduced into a more advanced way of viewing the words we read on a page. Instead of simply reading the sentences we see, we evaluate the meaning behind them and why those words may be placed there in the first place.
Based off of what I have heard from past students, evaluating The Lion King will ruin the entire movie for me. Therefore, I sit here with an open mind of the evaluation and consider that I have the choice as the believe the words floating in my ear and the choice to watch the movie with those words in mind. My view of the movie may change however, I will attempt at not letting the evaluation ruin a wonderful childhood memory for me.
As for being a Feminist critic, I believe that it is possible that at times I might call myself a slight Feminist. I do not try to take the side of a gender in any way, but I would presume that I would take the sides of women occasionally.
Concerning “Term Tuesdays,” I feel as though they will not change much...but we may be in for a bit of a surprise.
The man pictured above I believe is Herbert A. Leibowitz.
I believe that this class is titled “Introduction to literature” because we will be introduced to the analysis of literature. As students, we have been introduced to literature over the years of high school, however, we have not properly learned how to analyze classic literature. I am excited for this class to introduce me to the ways of how to analyze works of literature.
During our study of The Lion King, I believe that we will see many elements that we have not seen in our previous viewings. The Lion King is a movie that is known by many people and I am interested to see how an analysis of the movie will change my perspective of Simba, Nala, Scar, Mufasa, and the other characters in the movie.
I believe in the past that I have been a psychoanalytic critic of characters. A few years ago, I was introduced to Freudian theories about the behavior and subconscious thoughts of individuals. I began to apply those theories to the stories that I have read and the stories that we were reading in school. I believe that this gave me a good background in psychoanalytic analysis.
I believe that Term Tuesday will shift to ideas instead of general terms. This semester, there are a lot less terms than there were first semester. I believe that we will analyze these terms more indepth than how we just reviewed the terms from first semester. I believe that this will improve our knowledge more than what we did first semester. I felt like in first semester, we did not go into details of what the terms applied to. We only studied simply what they are. Now that we have less terms to talk about, we can better describe what these terms are and how they apply to literature.
The man pictured is Williams Carlos Williams.
Though it is true that we have be introduced to literature our whole life, I think that this class so for introducing us to a new and more detailed way of looking at literature. We are going to learn above and beyond the mediocre way we were taught to read and dissect books in the past. It is not about how pages you have read or what score you got on your AR quiz; it is about actually learning from the novel and applying what you have learned to your life.
Probably the biggest reason why we have not been introduced to literature this way is because we were not formerly able to understand it and appreciate it for its full value. It is possible that if this way of thinking is introduced at too young of a age it would be very difficult to understand and learn.
I would think I am the closest to being a Marxist Critic.
I guess I expected Term Tuesdays to be very similar as last semester, only different topics/vocab.
I have no idea who that is.

1. I think this course is called intro to lit. because it is the first actual reading class we have taken as well as it introducing us into new things. I hope that it will teach me to like reading as I struggle to stay involved in books and do not like to read at all.
2. I anticipate us to go over what the literary criticism theory is and talk about hidden things within the lion King.
3. I think that I am a Marxist critic because I like to examine characters and try and interpret what the author thinks and believes. I like looking deeper into the book because that is the only thing that allows me to stay involved in the book.
4. I think that Term Tuesdays will be more complex and deal with Literature instead of writing. They will be harder but will help me learn the things I need for the final.
5. The man is William Carlos Williams.
1) I think this course is called intro to lit because we will be reading books and going in depth in them. I think we have not been properly introduced because we have read the books but have not read into them.
2) I think we will analyze the movie and break it down. Also learn why the movie is like this and learn about the hidden background about the movie.
3) Being a women I would say I am a feminist because I am a women and I believe that women should be treated just like men are. I do not think it is right that men get paid more than women. Saying that I would fight for that not to be the case anymore in society today.
4) I think term Tuesday will be over vocabulary and term about literature.
5) The man in the photo is Williams Carlos Williams, he was a poet that was known for modernism and imagism.
I believe this class is called an introductory class because while we have been studying english, I feel as though we have not gone as in depth into literature than this. We have studied plot, settings, symbolism, however, this class will expect us to be able to think for ourselves. The past classes were kind of holding our hands, gently easing us into literature. Now, we should be able to figure things out ourselves.
During the study of the lion king, I anticipate that you will be asking us symbolism questions and such. Maybe come up with a couple theories.
I am slightly a feminist critic, although while watching a movie, I do not look for literature, I mainly enjoy the movie. However, in deeper literature, I like to analyze and look for hidden symbols and theories.
I feel as though term tuesday will obviously be more centered on literature. It might teach us how to find different sorts of literary techniques.
I do not know who this man is, ashamedly so.
I think I have already been introduced to literature already but probably not on as deep of a level as I should be. There is still much to know and so many more books to read. I anticipate we will talk about symbolism and we will learn a lot about literature that we did not already know. I probably have been a Feminist critic at some point considering I am a female and every once in awhile I tend to look at things from a feminists' point of view. I think the terms will be harder this semester because before we would have examples of them and be able to write using our terms. This semester we will have to rely heavily on our knowledge to remember the terms because they will not be repeated as often. I have no idea who that man is. I assume a novelist of some sort, maybe. He could also be the writer of the Lion King, perhaps, because we are now watching that film.

1. This course might be called Introduction to Literature because it will offer such a new and enlightening perspective that we will look back on the knowledge with thought we possessed and realize that it was almost nothing compared to the depth of knowledge we will possess after having passed this class.
2. During our study of The Lion King, I am anticipating that my perception of favorite movie as a child will be destroyed because of the theories we will discuss.
3. I would like to think that I am an unbiased critic, but that of course is not true. I am most definitely not a Feminist critic, and I am not sure what a Marxist critic is; my guess is that I am a Psychoanalytic critic, if I must be one of the three options.
4. I think that Term Tuesdays will stay the same for the most part. They might be more in depth and more subjective than before because these terms do not lay out a formula or a simple definition like the terms from the first semester.
5. I have not a clue who this man is. I was going to guess Sigmund Freud, but the majority of the blogtasks done before mine seem to conclude that he is a poet by the name of William Williams.
Palmer 3
To begin with, I believe this class is most likely called "Introduction to Literature" because of the new perspectives it will provide for us while reading/analyzing literature. Also, all of the English classes we have taken so far have not been solely about literature. Whereas this class will be composed of analyzing and reading famous works. I believe that when studying "The Lion King" and the literary criticism/theory, students will be enlightened on the symbols and motifs of the film. We will learn more about the true meaning behind each scene. I believe I am most closely associated with being a Marxist critic or Feminist critic. Also, I believe the Term Tuesdays will be more focused on important works and literature rather than on terminology. It will most likely focus on big ideas rather than concrete examples. Lastly, the man pictured is William Carlos Williams. He was a well-known American poet.
I think this class is called Introduction to Literature because, while we have been introduced to literature in the past, we have not been exposed in the way we will be in this class. In this class I am guessing we will dive deeper into the books and analyze more critically than before. During the study of the Lion King, I am not sure what we will study but I am assuming we will go over the symbolism and other literary devices used throughout the movie. Honestly I am not sure what all of the categories, Feminist,Marxist, and Psychoanalytic, are specifically without looking them up, so I cannot say, but possibly a feminist at some point, and maybe still today. As for the Term Tuesdays, I think that the terms we learn will directly correlate with different writing styles and techniques that authors use, rather than just terms and different grammar classifications. The man in the picture is William Carlos-- who was a doctor and a poet until his death in 1936.
This class is called intro to lit because we may believe we have already been introduced to what we know as literature. However Mr. C will some how teach us what the deeper meaning of this is. We will become knowledgeable of things we never knew existed.
This will be somewhat the same for our study of The Lion King. We once watched a great Disney movie when we were children and now we will learn much deeper meanings of the movie and will pick up on a lot of things that the writer and director were trying to portray even though they seem blind to the younger generations that watch the movie.
I believe that I have been a feminist critic because I see myself doing better things then what the female characters are portrayed to do. Along with this I always seem to have higher hopes for the female roles in movies and believe society is set out to portray most females as weak and dependent on the male population which is far from the truth. I do not however believe everyone is out to make women look bad so I am surely not an extremest by all means.
Term Tuesdays this semester will also become more extreme because we are a whole semester older and wiser and it is up to us to push or selves to then next level. We deserve the best education offered and must will learn to go out and get it in our final months as high school students. I am over all excited for this semester and am ready to accept the challenge.
Finally I have no idea who that man is; I am sure he has something to do with literature and am sure you will teach us a great deal about him.
1) This class is called Introduction to Literature because this is the first time we will criticize the literature that we read. Usually we just read to comprehend but now we will go one step further. We will be comprehending and analyzing what we read. We will go farther than the surface to uncover the underlying meanings of what the literature is really trying to say.
2) I anticipate that we will see The Lion King in ways that we have never seen it before. The movie will have a completely different meaning than it did before. The study will also help boost our confidence in interpreting literature and uncovering underlying meanings.
3) I do not think that I have been any one of these critics before. Reading has never been a favorite of mine so most of the time I just read to comprehend. This class should help me go beyond my weakness and boost my confidence for interpreting these lenses on literature in the future.
4) I think that Term Tuesdays will be based more on literature and the literature we read rather than grammatical terms. Term Tuesdays will help more with what we are doing in class along with preparing for the final exam rather than just preparing us for the final exam.
5) This man is William Carlos Williams and he was a poet and a doctor from New Jersey.
I have never been in a class just solely based on reading a literature. I believe that this class will introduce novels and techniques to better our understanding of literature in general. We will learn how to dissect certain books and become more fluent in our understanding as we go over books. It should let us understand a new side to the things we read.
While watching Lion King I expect to view the movie from a different perspective than I have viewed it from a previous time. I expect the objects in the movie to symbolize other things than just what they are. I hope to get a different viewpoint on the popular well known movie. I anticipate some arguments over what we have viewed and then thought the object symbolized. I believe I have a bright class that will pick up on some things I may not have noticed.
I believe I have employed a little psychoanalytic criticism because I try to understand why the characters moved or did the tasks at hand and figure out how they will become an importance later on in the novel. I try to guess and predict what will occur based of my knowledge of what is going on.
I think term Tuesdays will be more about the style of what we are reading maybe helping us understand what the book is about. I think the words will be a little more difficult and the presentations will stay flawless. Term Tuesday is a day I look forward to as the presenters give their knowledge to the others in fun games and other activities.
The man is a man I am not familiar with, although I bet he is a man with a knack to write literature.
Breitzman 3
I believe this class is called Introduction to Literature because we will be diving more in depth into the analysis portion of literature. As young kids, we were taught to simply read a book and answer questions about what we read. This course will help us better comprehend and appreciate what we are reading.
I believe that during our study of the Lion King, we will see and analyze aspects of writing differently than we may have viewed them as a young child or even in our more recent years. I feel the Lion King will help introduce us to what this course will consist of.
Though I do not strongly lean toward one theory of criticism, I would say I most resemble a psychoanalytic critic.
I believe that Term Tuesdays will change in the sense that we will focus more on literary terms and ideas rather than writing terms. These terms will help us better comprehend and interpret our readings throughout the semester.
I am not positive who the man in the picture is, but my first guess would be William Carlos Williams.
I would assume this class is called "Introduction to Literature" because although we have been introduced to literature before, we have not studied literature as deeply as what is to come. Also, this is probably a introductory college class and I assume they named it accordingly. I anticipate we will critique the director's use of certain tactics to promote certain feelings. Also, we will attempt to understand the meaning of the script further than Disney's purpose of entertainment. I have surely been a Feminist critic. Understanding a situation from a male and female perspective is something I do often. I have been doing this more often since the completion of my Argumentative Essay about gender inequality. A marxist critic/ psychoanalytic critic I have never been, but one day I hope to be. I believe term tuesdays will be more focused around understanding of ideas rather than successful usage of ideas. This man looks quite similar to Harry Truman, although I am unsure of his identity. Scratch that. I think it is William Carlos Williams because others have commented such. His significance escapes me.
Zeke Wieser Pd. 3
The concept of "Literature" is nebulous and vague, and all things nebulous and vague are difficult to teach. Therefore, this is a search for common ground as much as it is an introduction. One has to start somewhere with Literature, and for all intents and purposes this is our somewhere. In order for each of us to have a meaningful conversation about Literature together, we have to know what we are all referring to.
I assume the impetus for using The Lion King as a study of literary criticism and theory exists as a lesson in itself. We will be using a symbol of our childhoods, a familiar story, as the target for our critical attack. This will not only promote the idea of deconstruction, but also reinforce the fact that all criticism is subjective.
I would consider myself a Marxist critic, because like very many other young, idealistic individuals, I find myself allured by the dichotomies of oppressor and oppressed, rich and poor; I adore them in all their fallacy.
I believe Term Tuesdays will become much more personal. It is easy to list off grammatical classification as fact and label right from wrong. However, there is, like life, endless gray area in literary criticism. I believe this will force us to become intimately familiar with our topics.
I cannot say who the man is; though I assume he is both dead and important. However, I find it extremely amusing that with all the knowledge at our fingertips, it is still near impossible for me to use that picture to find the man's identity.
1) I feel like we are going to be introduced to many different styles of the authors that you have chosen for us to read. Not only are we going to gain an understanding of the author's thoughts on the book but we will see what the symbols of the book will show for a real world problem.
2) I am anticipating that one of my favorite childhood movies will be destroyed from what the concept of a good children's movie, to something that will help me look at movies in a different frame of mind.
3) I do not know what I am to be quite honest. I have not been much of a critic when it comes to literary pieces.
4) These terms seem broader and can be explained easier than just the terms of composition. I believe it will be easier to understand.
5) William Carlos Williams
1) This course is called introduction to Literature because we are not skilled in analyzing novels yet. We have read plenty of books, however, we have not been tested with a college level curriculum yet.
2) The Lion King is a great movie, and I have seen it a few times. I believe we will have class discussions about the film. Our intellectual comments will enhance our view of the movie.
3) I have never been a feminist critic. There are some gender related problems, but they are minuscule. I think Marxism is connected to communism. I am not an expert on Marxism, but I do believe capitalism is the best economy. Therefore, I am a critic of Marxist ideas.
4) The terms will not be as lighthearted as the previous semester. They will be more vigorous, to test our knowledge and capability.
5) Williams Carlos Williams
1. This course might be called introduction to Literature, because it will be different than any other English classes we have taken. We have been introduced to literature since kindergarten, but now we will take a deeper look into the different literature we read, and examine it in different ways.
2. I anticipate that we will look at The Lion King in a different way than we have before. We will look at the different symbols in the story, and different theories that have been developed from The Lion king.
3. I do not believe I am a Feminist critic, Marxist Critic, or Psychoanalytic critic, because when I read a book or watch a movie, I like to read/watch it for pleasure.
4. I believe Mr. C will expect more out of our Term Tuesdays this semester. We have already done one, so this semester the Term Tuesdays should be much better.
5. I do not know who the man that is pictured is, but if I had to guess I would guess either the writer of one of the books we will read, or the writer of The Lion King.
1. We have been introduced to literature multiple different times in our lives by our parents, daycare providers, and previous teachers. They have taught us the basics and I believe “Introduction to Literature” will teach us the beginning of literature at a higher level based on our previous knowledge.
2. During the study of The Lion King, I think we will learn how to analyze the meaning behind the authors writing. I have never analyzed the true meaning of The Lion King, so I know that after analyzing this movie I will never just watch a movie again.
3. I do not think I have been a Feminist, Marxist, or Psychoanalytic critic, but I hope to learn how to be in this course.
4. I think the new term Tuesdays will be on learning literary devices and techniques to use while analyzing a book.
5. The man in the picture is William Carlos William.
I think this course may be called Introduction to Literature because we really haven’t been introduced to literature. We have been taught to read, to open a book and look at the letters and put them into words, but that isn’t really literature, that’s reading. Literature is reading a book and recognizing the symbolism and poetry and techniques, the foreshadowing and red herons that add depth to books that we would normally just read. Over the years people pick up on these hints and clues and read further into a book naturally as they grow older, but we were never sat down in a class and told how to do this. I believe that is what this class is about, to look at something that might seem plain and clear and read deeper into it and recognize facts that otherwise escape us.
I anticipate that throughout our study of The Lion King we will notice things that we, as young and untrained children, never saw or realized. I believe it’ll open up our mind to the idea that something that seemed so obvious and plain actually can hold a much deeper meaning when you take the time to look.
I believe I am a psychoanalytic critic. I love connected the story to the author, figuring out why an author writes so much about a certain topic instead of on another. Figuring out how an author and their life ties into the characters and events in the book brings a more realistic feeling to the book and helps me gain a connection to the characters, author, and story as a whole.
I believe the Term Tuesdays will change as the terms are more directed towards literature instead of grammatical. There will be a lot more examples than definition of the terms, as it is easier to show an example of, say, symbolism than to try to define it.
The man in the picture is William Carlos W.
1.I think that throughout my English classes in High School, there was more focus on the grammar aspect rather than the literature part. Although we have been introduced to literature, this class with be more in depth.
2.I believe that when interpreting The Lion King certain points will come to life and show rather than just reading it the way it is supposed to be read.
3.I believe that I am more of a Psychoanalytic critic, when I am reading something I think more about the background nature, or plot that is happening. I think about how someone processes and stores information or insight.
4.I anticipate that Term Tuesdays will be used to teach things like similes and metaphors that are used in literature, and the way they are used and perceived.
5. William Carlos Williams
I assume that this class is called Introduction to Literature because we have no had a proper introduction. Although we have studied pieces of literature, we have not studied them in as much depth as a college level class would. I expect that we will analyze The Lion King in a way that will help us to form "critical lenses". As of now, I see most things as just black and white, but I am hoping this class with introduce a new spectrum. I believe I have been a feminist critic. The Term Tuesday will not explain words that have to do with literature and analysis. We will learn more of an application than a definition. The man in the picture is William Carlos W.
1.) I feel that this class is called "Introduction to Literature" because up until this point, the vast majority of students have not been going about literature in an analytic way, meaning we have not been properly introduced to the complex and thought provoking world of literature.
2.) I am expecting that my current views on The Lion King will be thoroughly shattered when analyzing the hidden messages within. I am looking forward to it.
3.) I think I may be a bit of a psychoanalytic critic when it comes to stories because it would make sense for one to write freely about subconscious desires.
4.) I think that Terms Tuesday will be a bit more enjoyable in this second semester because literature seems to focus more on the creativity and beauty of writing rather than the structural formats that sentences need to have.
5.) I have no idea who the man is but he dresses well and I'm sure he is a pretty swell guy.
1) I believe this class will be an introduction to a "higher" form (or level) of literature, in a sense - though more of a more honed sense of higher thinking, deduction, and analyzing where literature (and anything in general) is concerned. It is a preparatory course for more advanced courses in the subject matter of literature.
2) People will probably be shocked or surprised to find or realize some things about a beloved childhood movie that they would've never considered before. I believe we will begin to look at such works with new minds.
3) I have analyzed The Great Gatsby through a Feminist lens before. I might have some slight, occasional tendencies of a Psychoanalytic critic.
4) Instead of terms being of the grammatical variety, we will examine and learn about literary terms and ideas that are essential to understanding the world of literature.
5) He is the man pictured below. (I have no idea who he is.)
1- This course may be called "Introduction to Literature" because I predict that it will further expand our knowledge to explore different ways of thinking, observing, and depicting stories and other works of literature. Previously we have learned how to read and how to point out the obvious points in a piece of work, but I feel that now this class will introduce the meanings of writing works in a different and more intellectual way.
2- I anticipate that during our study of The Lion King and other literary criticism/theory that my eyes will become enlightened to new details that I have passed over in the past.
3- I would not consider myself a Feminist critic, Marxist critic, or Psychoanalytic critic, but I have had some education in each area so I have formed a partial opinion of each.
4- I anticipate that Term Tuesdays will no longer be learning definitions but it will transform to thinking more creatively and exploring further solutions.
5- I would presume that the man in the picture is a literary model of some importance, yet I am not certain as to who he is.
I believe that this course is called Intro to Literature because we will learn how to analyze the work and not just read to comprehend the plot. We have been introduced to literature but have not analyzed works by different types of criticisms-- psychoanalytic, marxist, and feminist.
In the Lion King, I believe that we will analyze the film based on a psychoanalytic, marxist, or feminist approach. We will see why the director and writer approached certain scenes like they did in order to have a greater impact. I think I have been a feminist critic and psychoanalytic critic at certain times. Term Tuesdays will most likely be about ideas on the exam but we also will have to tie the terms and ideas into the work we are studying. The man in this picture is William Carlos Williams.
I feel as though this class is called “Introduction to Literature” for the reason that in will dig deeper into different literary works. Prior to this class, we have been introduced to many novels with in depth discussion, but I feel that this course will take the next step in deciphering an author’s message behind his/her work. I anticipate lots of discussion differing in opinion from peer to peer. The Lion King has an extraordinary amount of symbolism within the literary work. The discussion will lead to many undiscovered ideas that were likely foreign to myself beforehand. I feel in years past and even until this day I’m more of a Marxist critic. I anticipate Term Tuesdays to be much more of a discussion based lecture. The students will catalyze the discussions, and will lead the audience to correct conclusions. The man is William Carlos Williams.
1. I think that this class is named Intro. to Lit. because we haven't really dove into books yet. I feel that this class with help us think deeply into what we are learning and reading.
2. I anticipate that we are going to have a very negative viewpoint of The Lion King after we look into what the movie is actually conveying.
3. I have been a critic once in my life and it really helped me form an opinion of a book that I had not really been able to form before.
4. I feel that term Tuesdays will be words that have to do directly with Literature and not have anything to do with Composition. I feel like we will learn words on how the author uses the characters in the book and how the book is written.
5. William Carlos Williams, he was an American poet who is closely tied with Modernism and imagism.
Ripperda 7
1) Literature is a basis to our society, it provides great entertainment and tradition. Because Literature is so integral in our society we have been exposed to it for most of our lives. However, I believe that this class will introduce us into a new way of analyzing literature. We will learn new skills and study new works.
2) There are a lot of literary works that we admire, most of them we have seen either in book or movie form. Often times though, we fail to look at the deeper meanings that these works provide. I hope that as we study the Lion King we will learn the different objectives that are really behind the story.
3) I do not have enough knowledge on the basis of being any type of critic at this point to be able to definitively define myself into one of those categories. I hope that this class will teach me about them.
4) Being that this will be everyone's second go around with Term Tuesdays, I would expect that the products would be better and that as a teacher, Mr. C would expect growth out of us. I don't think that everyone realized how important those terms were until we got close to the Final in December.
5) The man pictured is William Carlos William, an American Poet.
Darrington 7
I think this course is called “Introduction to Literature” because it will give the students a new approach to literary interpretation and styles. Also, I think it will introduce us to a variety of new books, themes, and other classification types. During The Lion King study, I predict that I will be introduced to a large number of new ways to analyze art, specifically film. These techniques could be translated to literature as well. Depending on how the individuals in the class react, heated discussion may develop too. I do not think I have ever been a feminist or Marxist critic, as I rarely view things from a females viewpoint or striving for equality viewpoint. I feel as though I may have used a psychoanalytic viewpoint in the past, analyzing different characters motives and inner thoughts. I think term Tuesday will take less of a grammar and proper sentence construction side, and more of an artistic description, showing different styles and literary techniques. The man pictured is one who looks classy and sophisticated, although I am unaware of his name.
Yes we have been introduced properly to Literature beforehand but I believe this course will give us the tools to analyze the work we will be studying, in a different way that what we have already been taught. I have heard we will be revealing all of the hidden sexual innuendos of Lion King and also studying the meanings of certains things throughout the movie we never understand as a child. I believe at times I can be a feminist critic. I believe we all have been Marxist critics at some point even if we do not portray ourselves that way. I do not feel like I have ever been put in the situation to be a Psychoanalytic critic before. For term tuesday I believe we will study the many different types of writing. The man pictured is William Carlos, an american poet.
1) Yes, we have been introduced to literature already. But, we will be looking a literature in ways we did not before. So it is a new form of literature in a sense for us to learn.
2) What I anticipate will happen during our study of The Lion King is that we will look deeper in to the story, looking for symbols and other meanings.
3) I do not think I am a Feminist critic, Marxist critic, and Psychoanalytic critic.
4) I anticipate that Term Tuesday will change in a few different ways. It may also be easier due to that they are literary more than grammatical.
5) William Carlos W.
1. This course is called Introduction to Literature because we will be introduced to new higher level novels. We have been introduced to literature already but not at the extant we are going to experience. We will analyze and interpret many great novels.
2. I anticipate that I will learn new interpretations and analysis of the Lion King. I will also learn what the literature criticism/theory is.
3. I think I have been a Psychoanalytic critic before.
4. Term Tuesdays will be about terms used in literature and methods about literature
5. William Williams, he was an American poet.
1. This course might be called "Introduction to Literature" because we will be learning new things about literature itself. We know literature from what we have learned when we were younger but this class will provide us with a deeper meaning of literature. We will explore places in literature that we haven't experience before.
2. I anticipate that during The Lion King we will be evaluating it piece by piece and look even deeper into what we thought we already knew about the movie. As well I feel as though we may get into some great discussions about the movie. I anticipate many theory and criticism while we watch this movie. I am very much looking forward to The Lion King.
3. I am not sure exactly what type of a critic I may be. I am still learning about myself and how I look at/judge books.
4. I anticipate that what we will learn during term Tuesdays will change. That they will be more about the literature than the last ones were with grammar. I feel as though I may like this semesters Term Tuesdays better than last semesters.
5. The man in this picture is William Carlos Williams.
The title of this class seems to be a bit of a misnomer. Like you said, we have been “introduced” to literature already. Perhaps a different name is in order. Because this course is most likely designed to deepen and strengthen our knowledge of literary theory, criticism, and interpretive skills, the course should be renamed “Continuation of Literature”. This way the prospective pupil will know that he or she is not starting from a barren wasteland of disjointed literary tundra, but rather a well-seeded field ready for the harvest.
In our study of The Lion King I think that we will all begin to hone our abilities to interpretively decode the interwoven meaning of the story. No longer will we view the plotline as an innocent children’s story, but as a premeditated comment on modern society.
I believe that I am most often a Marxist critic, who frequently travels to the realms of Feminist and Psychoanalytic criticism.
The Term Tuesdays this semester will focus more on criticism, theory, and interpretive license and less on concrete definitions of terms.

1)This course may possibly be called “Introduction to Literature” because even though we have been introduced to literature, many of the theories of studying literature are foreign to us. We have been able to read for many years now, but in terms of studying it we are mere neophytes. Even looking at the types of critics in the third question, I have some semblance of an idea what each of these topics are, but have no idea of how they apply to the world of literature.
2)I predict that during our study of The Lion King many students’ feelings towards the story may change. I believe that many students will not appreciate diving under the surface of a childhood classic and divulging its flaws. Some students will greatly enjoy having their own personal thoughts on the story verified, while others still may just revert back to how they once saw it and continue seeing it the same way they always have.
3)I personally believe that I am a psychoanalytic critic because I always find myself looking for the reason items exist in a story. I like to look for hidden meanings even in how they film a certain scene or write a certain passage.
4)I believe that Term Tuesdays will be longer and more in depth since many of the words will require context examples rather than a simple sentence. These examples may be passages or whole chapters, in order to comprehend the term.
5)I have no idea who this person is and have no clue how to get started with finding out.
I believe that this course is titled “Introduction to Literature” because it is going to help us look at the greater picture of an author’s work and try to identify what is being said. As students, we are going to have to figure out different techniques authors use in their novels. We are going to learn how to disect an author’s work and come to realize what is really being said. During our study of The Lion King, I hope to discover the real meaning behind the story. I want to learn things I never had known before about this famous work and be surprised. I do not believe that I have ever been a feminist, Marxist, or Psychoanalytic critic of any kind while watching movies or reading books. I do not try to depict any kind of meaning in them, I mainly partake in reading books or watching movies for fun. I hope that the Term Tuesdays this semester will differ from one another and not compare very easily to each. Last semester, groups would take each other’s ideas and none of the Term Tuesdays really ever stood out. The man shown in the picture is known as William Carlos Williams.
1. I believe that this course is called “Introduction to Literature” because although we have read many pieces of literature, this course will bring a new meaning to literature with the way that we think about things we have just read. Books that we have read in the past have mostly been for leisure and is something that we know would captivate us. I believe that “Introduction to Literature” will force us to read something that we normally would not pick up and find that we like more than we thought. I had gone beyond my comfort zone over break and read The Old Man and The Sea by Ernest Hemingway and found that I loved it. I am very excited for this class.
2. I honestly believe that, during our study of The Lion King, I will see a favorite childhood movie ripped to shreds and I will not be able to watch it anymore.
3. I believe that I am, or have been, a Feminist critic. Since I am of the female gender, I find that I can be harsh in the way that I criticize women characters. I find that in a lot of books, women and girls tend to be weak and cannot think for themselves. When I find a book, or a movie, that has a strong, independent female character, I tend to feel more proud to be a female. I know that I am someone who looks for flaws most of the time, but women are something that am particularly harsh about with criticism.
4. I do not think that the way Term Tuesdays are conducted will be different, but I believe that the way we are taught the terms will be different. Instead of giving examples of how to use terms in writing, we will be given examples of actual works.
5. William Carlos Williams.
This course might be called Introduction to Literature not because we “have not been introduced properly,” but because we are going to look at literature in a different way than we have in the past. In past english classes, we are told to read a book and then a few weeks later we take a test on it. In this class, I expect we will look into the deeper meaning of the text and will explore many different types of literature. During the Lion King study, I anticipate many childhood memories and fondness of the movie will be crushed. I do not think of myself of any sort of critic (at least not consciously). I do not try to look into the deeper meaning of literature. I hope to learn to do that in this class. Term Tuesday will change because it will not be English terms. I do not know who the man is.

I hypothesize that this course is called Introduction to literature because all these previous years we have been innocent and immature. We are now young adults and need to be enlightened in the sense of not just reading, but understanding and viewing into an author’s mind through their literature. In this class we will now start to analyse literature instead of being told what we are supposed to think about a piece of art. I hypothesize that we will psychologically analyze the characters actions in the Lion King and read into the unconscious decisions these characters make through the story. I believe we will find things happening that can be looked into more aggressively than before as children. I believe I have been a psychoanalytic critic before when reading The Lord of the Flies. As I read through the chapters, I saw that immediately without adults, the kids formed a government with the oldest and most wise leading the groups. Psychoanalytically, Jack has a desire to kill and violence. He has also always had a hatred for Ralph (even though it was never said aloud till the end). Then, at the end, Jack leads the “savages” to kill Ralph even though under all circumstances, he has no reason to fear him considering he leads his own tribe. He has no reason to hunt down Ralph, yet subconsciously, he fears him. Feministically, there are no females on their island whatsoever. Maybe the author tries to show that women can’t survive in this world. Maybe women would be too nice and forgiving changing the “savages” into a kinder, less vicious tribe. I do not believe I have really ever been a critic of the other option sadly. I anticipate that these “Term Tuesdays” will change in respect that we will write our analysis of literature that we will read, and that they will be more open ended in what we want to analyze. The man in the picture is William Carlos Williams, a famous author, whom I hope to learn more about.
This course is most likely referred to as “Introduction to Literature” because of what the course entails. The courses that I have completed in the past have not focused on too many of the literary devices in depth, but rather the general plot of the story as well as the basic-easily understood devices that were used in the story. I believe that in this course we will be more focused on the different tactics that the authors use to tell their stories. I think that we will plunge into great depths within the novels that we are going to read. Rather than just skimming the surface, we will be able to dive in and analyze the novels that we will be reading in extreme detail.
I anticipate that during our study of The Lion King, we will learn a lot about the movie that we (especially myself) adored as a child. I feel that many things that we will learn we would have never expected out of the movie. Also, I think that by studying the movie, we can find ways to analyze other works such as TV shows and Novels. We will learn how to analyze these works through different lenses. Those being the Marxist, Feminist, Psychoanalytic lenses.
I think that I tend to be more of a Marxist critic. I think this because I tend to be more judgmental in a more economic or societal aspects that are occurring within the work in which I am analyzing
I think that the Term Tuesday presentations will be similar but they shift from a grammar focus to a literature focus, meaning focusing on more literary devices. For the most part, the presentations will be the same just a different area to focus on.

POSSIBLE LORD OF THE FLIES SPOILERS
Throughout our years in school, we are taught literature. Literature is a key component, in many people’s minds, for our education. This class, however, is considered Introduction to Literature. Haven’t we already been introduced to it? Well, in the average American sense, we have indeed been introduced. However, the ideas known as literary lenses have not been taught to us yet. Learning to read and perceive through other ideals can completely change the symbols and the meaning behind some plot points within a story. Take Lord of the Flies for example. If seen through no lens, the Lord of the Flies herself could be considered a beacon of bad things, or simply where the boys insanity actually takes hold of them. If seen through a biblical sense, she could be considered the Devil. Other symbols within the story that change through lenses are the Conch, Simon, and Piggy’s Glasses. The Great Gatsby can also be viewed through different lenses, most famously, a feminist or Marxist lens. Other lenses include Gender Specific/Gender Neutral, Psychoanalytic, Historical Criticism, and a plethora of others.
Within our studies of the Lion King, I believe we will begin our introduction of different lenses. We will also be taught to be critical of things that we hold near and dear to our hearts. The criticism is not necessarily bad, it has the connotation to be such.
I personally feel that I have been a feminist critic for the most part. I noticed this especially while reading Lord of the Flies. It seemed to me that the more feminine characters (Piggy and Simon especially) suffered the greatest amount. Other feminine characters, like Ralph, also suffered, but to a lesser extent because he more frequently showed his masculine side. I also found that the more masculine characters, Jack especially, seemed to have less apparent misfortune. However, Jack and Roger, the most masculine characters in the book, had the absolute misfortune of insanity. For instance, though they are the leaders of the hunters, they are at fault for the murders of Simon and Piggy. Though the novel has no female characters whatsoever, there is still the apparent gender gap between feminine and masculine.
The man pictured is William Carlos Williams, who was a poet
Although we have been reading for the majority of our lives, that does not mean that we have fully understood the meaning behind the authors words. Introduction to Literature will teach us to not simply become better readers but also critical thinkers. As we analyze the movie The Lion King, we will analyze it and find literary connections that we did not think possible. I believe myself to be a psychoanalytic critic because I focus a lot on the effect that the author is trying to create on the readers psyche and emotions. I anticipate that Term Tuesday will change dramatically. We will no longer focus on sentence structure and instead we will focus on how to wield groups of sentences (wording) in a way to acquire the desired effect on the reader. The man pictured appears to be William Carlos Williams, a famous poet.
