Essay Extension--due Tuesday, Dec.1, before midnight

What else--other than the ad itself--will you discuss in your advertisement analysis essay? Psychology, sociology, history? What will your outline/plan look like? To earn points, type 300+ words here, expanding your ideas. Notice how Bridget Olson, Erik Hanson, Andrew Rogen, and Mallory Ageton look at larger cultural topics--their specific analyses of their selected ads lead to broader examinations of our cultural approaches and mindsets.
(Your paper should also include, if you were using the ad on the left for example, a discussion of Jennifer Lopez's film career & roles. Further, JLo's biography would help you examine the reasons she is chosen for this ad. What does JLo represent? Who is being targeted by this ad? When was this ad prominent--when JLo was truly popular, right? Who she's married to matters. The films she has been in matter. Maid in Manhattan, which is basically Cinderella or Pretty Woman, objectifies her rather blatantly. What makes her essential to Deseo? What symbols are present? How is the ad's form effective? At whom is JLo looking? What is she doing? What is happening in the ad? What is being conveyed/portrayed? What does the imperative (command) statement "let desire lead you" mean? Why is there a classy, urban floor beneath a natural, utopian setting? You have options, you see.)
Be sure to include a few of each of the four sentence types. Label them clearly so I can find them quickly. Practice will improve your writing, I assure you.

I want to analyze a crown royal ad. instead of just analyzing it and saying that it is the best that's why it is crown royal, because its the king, i also want to focus on how it appeals to men. it shows that man can be king if he drinks crown royal. ya sure women can be queen to, but there is only a handful of women who drink hard liquor compared to men. in this j-lo ad it uses her butt which men are attracted to in order to sell a perfume, it is shaped like her butt and it shows mostly skin in this ad so it appeals to men. but it lets on that women can have a butt like j-lo's if they use this perfume and then men will be attracted to them too. it uses sex to sell, which is wut a lot of ads now a days use because an ad like this was probably in a cosmo magazine, which is like a sex mag for girls. but still im guessing that this is a good smelling perfume, and it's worth the money.

In the advertisement I chose, it seems that companies use babies to sell their products, because I mean, who doesn't think that babies are cute and adorable? Okay, sure, some will beg to differ, but there are loads and loads of people out there who love babies. The advertisement that I have chose for now is the ad on Lever 2000, a soap bar. In this ad, a supposed father, or at least a man is holding a baby above him while the baby's little foot touches the father's face. This ad seems to say that if you buy this brand of soap, your skin will be as smooth as a baby's. Or, to those who love babies, just the picture of the baby in the ad is enough to make them want to buy this soap. This is for the reason that again, babies are cute and adorable. Another example would be a towel ad that I also found. In this ad there is a pure white baby rabbit sitting beside super clean white towels. They are probably suggesting that the towels are as soft and clean as that white rabbit. But, since the rabbit is a baby and is small, cute, and adorable, this product will probably be more likely to be wanted. If you think about it, with any ad with a baby in it, a person would normally want to buy that rather than an ad with an adult in it. (This is to those who like babies, for there are some who don't) These ads probably appeal more towards the mothers, or want-to-be-mothers of this world. However, it's not like these babies come as a package deal with these products.

The ad I chose was for Tag body spray. It's a chaotic scene.(S) The ad takes place during Christmas time with the family all around. She basically attacks him, and tries to take his clothes off in the middle of the room. So is this ad saying that if a man wears Tag, he automatically gets women to come on to them even in front of close family members? Because it's Christmas time, everyone usually behaves and are calm and enjoy the time with family.(CX) This ad however says that if you purchase Tag, you can go against tradition, and you spice things up!(CD) In reality, this wouldn't happen. This is a false ad to viewers. They get the wrong perception of what will really happen when Tag is used. Across the middle of the ad there is a big label saying: "WARNING: The makers of Tag body spray will not be held liable should your attraction to your Tag-wearing boyfriend cause you to engage in behavior that grandma may consider "unladylike". Tag makes women seem like animals. In the ad it's basically the woman's fault for going after him. When in real life women are not that foward in most cases. Granted, Tag may smell awesome, but it's not going to cause the complete chaos shown in this ad. (CX)

The ad I chose is advertising for Tyra Bank’s website. This ad has a lot of text to it. (S) A lot of the text says things like, the place to help you look and feel more beautiful than you already are, or it’s your turn to be fierce. (CD) One thing that stands out to me is the text that says, beauty inside and out. (CX) It stands out to me because of the way they have Tyra looking in this photo. The took a picture of her looking all natural but then they went in and digital added cartoon-ish looking clothes to her and made part of her hair look cartoon-ish as well. They also added cartoon looking feathers and eyelashes to one of her eyes. The text, beauty inside and out, stands out because the way they have her done up in this picture sends mixed signals. (CD) Tyra is all about encouraging young girls and women everywhere that they are beautiful no matter what. So why is she posing with digitally enhanced clothes and hair? This ad tells me and others that if I want to be as beautiful as she is I need to glue cartoon-ish looking feathers and eyelashes to my eye. This tells me that even if I would want to look like her in this photograph I never could. I never could look like her because no one could look like her in this picture, not even Tyra herself. Ads like these annoy me because people become infatuated with how beautiful digitally enhanced models look in the magazines. In real life they don’t look like that, they look just like everyone else. They don’t have flawless skin; they have freckles and every other body imperfection out there. We are all humans and no one is perfect, so therefore no one could possibly ever look the way Tyra does in this ad. (CX)

For my ad I chose to do an axe detailer shower tool ad. This ad just contains a picture of the product, but also contains phrases that help describe what the tool can be used for. It says use this product wash of a night with you ex-babysitter. Or wash a night off with your ex-girlfriend. The bottom of the ad describes the product by saying use the soft side for your sensitive male parts and the rough side for your tough male parts. This ad tries to sell itself by making men want the ad because they believe that by using their product they will be able to constantly engage in sex so much that they will require a special tool unlike other men who are not as good as them because they are not using this product. In my analysis I will talk about how ads today target men by bringing them down and making them feel like less of a man without using the company’s product. They also promise men that by using their product they will become better men either they will look better or be stronger and be more attractive to women. These companies use psychology to help break men down and feel like less or as hopeless without their product. In our culture today men in ads are always these super beings that make up like 1% of the population but people choose to believe that by using these products will grant them entrance into this top 1% club and they all the ladies will want them and all men will envy them.

In my ad, that involves a girl kicking a present as a mother nature’s monthly gift, is about being able to move around and do sports while using the certain brand of tampon. The tampon is supposed to help you “score” in sports because you don’t have to worry about anything else. You will do better which will hence your sporting abilities and make you a better player. In the olden days, they used tampons to help clog the bleeding for soldier’s bullet wounds to help them stay strong and to keep moving. In the Iraq war they had reports on using it for the same reason. In my ad, teens of young age are being targeted to buy the certain brand and to keep using it to be a better sports athlete and to keep moving just like how they use to use it. If they start using it at a young age, they will keep using it until they are older and have their own kids. The way that the girl is kicking the present or the “soccer ball” is pointing forward at the ball but kicking it at the same time. Your whole attention goes to the present and being able to fight away/off mother nature or your time of the month. Might I add that the kick she is doing is one of the hardest kicks to do in soccer and you will definitely be able to do that kick if you use this brand. The ad not only points towards any human to use it but also that any kind of women should. Looking at this ad, it hard to decipher which race she is. If she’s black, African American, or white. It all depends on who you are and you can do or become anything you want to be. According to this ad you won’t “back down” with what is written on the ad you will make all the scores and become someone new and better.

The front of the movie case can tell alot about the plot of the movie and what it is going to be about. Even the name of the movie can give you a basic idea of what the movie is going to be about. The ad i have chosen is a picture of the front cover of the movie 12 rounds. The expression on John Cena's face says all is not calm and peaceful and that the movie is going to be fast-paced and full of action. The colors of the ad including red and yellow could symbolize danger or killing or just mainly blood. Although the yellow is kind of calming although it is only there to draw attention to the title of the movie. The name 12 rounds makes you wonder, what exactly are the 12 rounds of. Mainly though this symbolizes a game. Who doesn't like a good game because games can be thought of as pleasant and a good way to kill time. Although this most likely isn't the kind of game that anybody would like to play. It's like gambling, if you lose you are going to regret it. When you see that it is from the same director as die hard 2 and from the producer of speed, doesn't that just make you think that there is going to be lots if action in the movie. And we absolutely cannot forget about who they chose as the actor for this movie. It's obvious we cannot forget about who they chose to be the main character of this movie. Who wouldn't want to watch a movie with someone as strong, charismatic and down right awesome as John Cena. There is probably very few people who wouldn't want to watch this movie with someone like that as the lead role.

In my ad Jennifer Aniston is trying to sell me smart water, but what ties does she have to this drink...None. Smart water wasn't trying to find a person who personifies their product but looks good selling it. Jennifer aniston is a gorgous celebrity who almost everyone has seen in either a movie or tv show or countless other things. She is a highly known and sought after celebritant which makes her a great choice for smart water's spokeperson. Jennifer aniston has appeared in many known movies such as Marley & Me, The Break-Up, Rumor Has It and she was one of the main actors on the tv show "Friends" for 10 years. She has also been in public eye a little closer since her break with ex-hubby Brad Pitt in 2005, when he divorced her to be with hottie co-star Angelina Jolie. Her life since then has been a big show of who she is dating and her alleged "bickering" with Angie over getting Brad back. Her recent love affair have been with her on-again-off-again beau, singer John Mayer. Her life has been in the public eye for alomst 20 years now so why wouldn't smart water choose her. She is the classic show of women want to be her and men want to be with her. Her classic girl next door lookings and charming personality woo her audience into loving her more and more with everything she does. One of the current ordeals she has been struggling with in the public eye is her wish to get pregnant which touches the hearts of all the women out there with the same struggles. She is an all out lovable person who the world cant get enough of. In her movies she plays characters who have hardships that people can relate to. Such as in her movie Rumor Has It she plays a girl whose sister is getting married she goes home for the wedding, hiding her own engagement from her family, and doesn't feel like she belongs. She finds out about her mother running off before her parent's wedding and thinks she isn't her fathers child. In the end of the story she finds out the truth and finally feels as if she has a place in the world becuase she knows the truth. She touches the lives of people by acting out scenes that happpen in real life but puts a funny twist on things to help people find humor in error.

In the ad I chose, I am going to analyze Kate Moss’s career. She is known for her figure, because of her uncommonly short height for a fashion model(complex). Because of her beauty, she has been on over 300 magazine covers. British Vogue magazine has had her on the cover 26 times alone. Her party lifestyle and high-profile relationships have kept her in the spotlight. For example Moss was voted 8th in Maxim's "50 Sexiest Women of 1999" and 22nd in FHM's "100 Sexiest Women of 1995." Men's magazine Arena also named her as their Sexiest Woman in their 150th issue. In March 2007, Moss won the Sexiest Woman NME Award(simple). She is obviously a very sexy woman(simple). Besides being famous for her looks, she is also famous for her money. She made her first appearance in the British women's Sunday Times Rich List in 2007, where she was estimated to be worth $45 million. She ranked as the 99th richest woman in Britain(simple). In the 2009 Rich List, she was ranked as the 1348th richest person in the UK, with a net worth of $40 million. In July 2007, earning an estimated total of $9 million in the past 12 months, Forbes magazine named her second on the list of the World's 15 top-earning supermodels. Moss is known for her riches and her sexiness.
Moss has had contracts with major designers including Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Calvin Klein, Roberto Cavalli, Chanel, Missoni, Longchamp, David Yurman, Dior, Yves Saint-Laurent, Burberry,Stella McCartney, Rimmel, Bvlgari, and even Brazilian label ELLUS during summer 2000. Twelve months after her cocaine scandal, Moss made a comeback by bagging 18 top modelling contracts for the Autumn/Winter 2006 season: Rimmel, Agent Provocateur, Virgin Mobile, Belstaff, Beymen, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Roberto Cavalli, Longchamp, Stella McCartney, Bulgari, Chanel, Nikon, David Yurman, Versace, Mia Shvili, Calvin Klein Jeans and Burberry. Even though Moss has gotten into trouble and become a bad role model, designers, producers, and agents still want to use her in their ads, magazines, and commercials (compound complex). Wikipedia states that, she has been earning more money after her cocaine scandel then ever before. Isn’t that telling young girls it is OK to do bad things. It is telling them that they will probably just get away with it, she did, why wouldn’t they?
I will also analyze the Parisienne perfume TV commercial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlVwjzyCvZM). While the intense music gets your attention, the beautiful Kate Moss keeps it(complex). With her passionate thoughts, leading you to wonder what the commercial is even about, she twists and turns her body in the taxy. She is enjoying the scent of the rose imagining herself as a sex goddess lying in a bed of silk surrounded with roses like the one she has. Her thoughts seem so real, so exhilarating. Eventually she ends up at her location and she gets out of the taxy(compound). With a gorgeous Paris background a lovely French voice says the name of the perfume. Kate Moss holds the flower to her heart. This commercial contains so many messages, but main one is “sex sells”(compound).

In my ad, there is a very buff guy doing push-ups on rocks. My ad is of a protein bar and my analysis would include everything in the ad, not just the obvious attributes. I would analyze how the product is trying to make you believe that if you used this protein bar that you would look and be more like this man who is super buff. It would also make you more of a man because you would be able to exercise on rocks, which is a difficult feat not many men would attempt, in fear of injuring themselves. I would also notice the slogan, Feed Your Potential, which is also saying that this protein bar would give you everything you could possibly need in a protein bar. There is also a short paragraph about how this protein bar will give you rock hard abs, arms, and chest. This could allude to the fact that women like men who are fit and strong, so if you eat this bar, you will be more attractive to the opposite sex. The paragraph also alludes to the fact that if you use this product you will create mass and keep it right where you want it, which is talking about men being better in bed with their partner. The rocks could also symbolize how strong and tough of a man you could be with this product. I would also notice that the sky is a grey and blue, which could symbolize how dark and cloudy your real journey becoming like this man would be like, rather than just eating this protein bar or how dreary your life would be without this product. The product is also covered in chocolate, to make it more appetizing, which is misleading because anybody who has tried a protein bar knows what it takes like, and the chocolate doesn’t help ease the taste one bit. This would attract people who love chocolate but hate to exercise, so they can compromise with this "delicious" chocolate covered protein bar.

The analysis that Mr. C wants us to write will HAVE TO include much more than just the ad itself. I have not chosen my ad yet but I plan on writing about specific parts shown in the ad, for example, I will take one piece in the ad and follow its history and what it may possibly resemble in "hidden" context. If one were to look at the JLo ad that Mr. C posted, it wants one to think that by using this product will/may make you more like Jennifer Lopez. Now common sense of the average College Bound English 12 student KNOWS that all of this is just a load of crap. If you look at the main image (JLO sitting in a hammock) you see that the writers of the ad are using a very pretty woman, who, by the way America mader her, is famous. She is not wearing very much clothing which takes you to the thought of sex. Also, by looking at her messed up hair, you may infer that she could have just been doing something inappropriate with another person. Now by looking deeper than just the fact that she could have been doing sexual acts it takes us back to America's history of sex. It has been proven that America craves sex, so by putting a picture of a hot chick next to a product, it may (in a guy's perspective) make them want to buy the product to give to their girlfriend or wife, in order to give them that sexy appeal and more chances of getting laid that night. If you take other parts of the picture, for example the chandelier, it makes people think that they may become rich like JLo and have a nice house with wood floors and better yet, a jungle-like setting. What is better than bringing the outside, inside. Not much. All of this is brought to you in one simple bottle of perfume. Also notable is the size and shape/colors of the bottle. The perfume is in a glass container that looks sharp like a broken window and it is an ice blue color. The product is enlarged to make you feel like you are getting a lot for your money, when you actually aren't. This blog helps me by broadening my eyes so when I start to write my paper I will be able to find many different "hidden" features.

I Chose Hidden Fantasy a perfume ad for Britney Spears. She is looking toward the camera but,not directly into it. She's wearing alot of fruity colors. Pink, purple, peachy, orange.she wants you to notice her and the way she looks at you. she wants you to be inspired to look, act, and dress like her.Does she do this to help make up for her past mistakes? I know she's made mistakes and even really sets a bad example for little Jamie Lynn. She follows everything she does practically. Britney has two kids, so now Jamie has two kids. 1 girl is famous so the other one must be. I think Britney is in Crossroads but,I can't remember any other movies she stars in. I don't believe she's a good rollmodel either especially for little sweet girls. The ideal rollmodel would be Taylor Swift she doesn't act like a snob and she is very sweet and down to earth about what she wants and what she needs.Being famous like Britney isn't everything. Just because your pretty and get alot of action shouldn't mean that you are the greatest person that ever lived. You have to judge yourself and not others even if they may be a famous person.Britney grew up just like a normal person. She probably just had alot of negative influence in her life and that caused alot of problems for her.

The ad I chose is an old spice ad with Neil Patrick Harris in it. It shows a picture of Neil Patrick Harris dressed as a doctor and he is staring at the camera while using a stethoscope on a patient. Although he is using the stethoscope incorrectly. Instead of putting it on the patients chest, he has the patient lying down and has the end of the stethoscope placed on the patients face. The ad has a line at the top that says "Body odor protection recommended by former TV doctors, like me. At the bottom it reads "You don't need a real doctor to get protection against the torment of chronic body odor and wetness. You need old spice pro strength antiperspirant. It's prescription strength wetness protection without the prescription. Take it from me, I used to be a fake doctor." Instead of just looking at the ad i would notice how the doctor is putting the stethoscope in the wrong place. Probably intentionally on purpose because he played a doctor on a showed called "Doogie Howser, M.D." or because he currently in a comedy called "How I met your mother" Neil has usually played a comedic role in most of his parts so the ad is supposed to be funny in order to show you what Neil does. You can also see that the ad is telling you that anyone should know that old spice will make you smell better. You don't need a doctor to tell you that. The ad might also be implying that in order to look like Neil you'd have to put on the old spice. One odd part of the ad that you might subconsciously notice is that Neil is very tan and looks young in the picture while the patient is an old very white unattractive man. It could be saying that old spice makes you young, tan, and vibrant. While not wearing it will make you old, sick, and not very attractive. Old spice is subconsciously persuading the reader by showing them what will happen if they choose not to wear their product.

The ad I chose is an advertisement for tampax pearl. In the ad is Serena Williams with a very big smile. (S) In the background you see a woman in a green dress holding a pink present and it is symbolizing the “monthly gift.” (CD) The woman is being pulled away from the court by two security guards. At the bottom of the ad are the sentences, “Serena Williams isn’t about to let Mother Nature’s Monthly Gift ruin her game. That’s why a champion like her trusts the unique LeakGuard protection of Tampax Pearl plastic.” So besides what is being shown in this ad I would analyze Serena Williams career because this ad says in order to be a champion like her you need this product. (CX) I would talk about how having Serena in this ad really targets people that play tennis, or play sports for that matter. (CD-CX) I would also talk about how this ad appeals to people of different races. Does it matter that Serena is African American? Are they trying to appeal to people of different races and show them that they too can be a famous athlete? I would analyze why they chose a rich person for the ad. Maybe they want the ad to appeal to people who have money and are like her, or people who want to have money like her. Also, you could look at the reasons for why they chose an athlete for the ad because Serena Williams is a physically fit woman. You wouldn’t put someone who isn’t physically fit in a tennis scene as a champion. This could affect the way people look at themselves. They might think that if you don’t look like her then you can’t be a champion. But, if you use this brand of tampon maybe you could.

The ad I have choosen is an ad that promotes New Moon. You have a sleeve of the ad dedicated to all the Edward supporters. So I will analyse his career and go into some background on vampires and what they have to promise. There is another sleeve for the Jacob fans. Again I will go into his career and into the background of werewovles. Another sleeve shows shirts that say "Team Edward" or "Team Jacob" on them, possibly look into the clothing line and see how it is doing in comparsion to the movies. You have a slide with a girl and under the girl it states "What's a girl to do?". I will analyse that. To me it can be taken to ways. The last sleeve has a girl walking away with an Edward cut out. I will look into why Edward is more popular than Jacob. Also, I'll check into the books and the movies in how much they have brought in since alot of people enjoy this series. Twilight is meant to target the teenage girls in its not so perfect love story. It shows love, dedication, yet complications. In the ad, it shows girls taking sides, and it also shows which side girls like the most.

I chose to analyze a Calvin Klein ad. (S) In this ad, Calvin Klein is trying to sell a new fragrance, but they are selling so much more. (CD) It is fairly easy to see sexual references in ads but there are so many more ways that advertisers try to engage your unconscious mind than sexually. This ad is from a ‘Seventeen’ magazine that is read by millions of teens each month. Why would advertisers use sex to sell perfume to young teens? What else are they using to sell their new perfumes?

In this ad there is a young teen couple engaged in a love scene. The male looks very similar to a popular teen celebrity, Zac Efron. By using a popular celebrity, this ad lures in female teen readers. Advertisers try to target consumers and by using a popular teen, they are targeting a large group of young consumers. If you consider the current culture, this ad would say it all! Young love, alcohol bottles instead of perfume bottles, baggy jeans, t-shirts and shaggy hair scream pop culture in this ad. By using such symbols, Calvin Klein is engrossing teens into this ad!

Calvin Klein was created in 1968 and originally was a coat shop, located in a New York City hotel. The business grew and in 1969 it began to sell more items such as scarves, shoes, belts, furs and sunglasses and finally made an attempt at fragrances in the late 70’s. Calvin Klein is known to carry classy clothing and other items so why would this ad show two shaggy teens with baggy clothing, engaged in a love scene, in a public area? The answer is because of our culture today. If this ad was showcasing a snobby rich woman wearing a fur coat, it wouldn’t appeal to the target. Advertisers want to lure in as many consumers as they can, and if their ads didn’t appeal to our current culture, they wouldn’t be very successful!

My ad is by the company of Lord & Taylor and it is created by Michael Kors (CD). There are many particular parts of this ad you can look outside of the box. First is the store of Lord & Taylor (S). This company is very high on the clothing ranking since some of the “top” brands include Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, and Sean John just to name a few (CX). With 429 different respected brands one could conclude that this store is considered highly over this nation. Lord and Taylor was one of the first retailers to present Christmas windows filled with holiday displays rather than merchandise after they were the first to open a branch of another Lord and Taylor (CD-CX). Because of these accomplishments it [Lord and Taylor] became the first major store on Fifth Avenue in New York to represent a women president (CX). Although the store can provide great detail of the ad; Michael Kors also plays an important contributing for this ad. Michael Kors is one of the elite clothing designers. Michael started making clothes when he was 19 and this escalated to his first women’s collection at Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue. After gradually continuing to become famous and well known he landed as a judge on Project Runway. As if Project Runway is not big enough with judge Heidi Klum they also throw in Michael Kors. Heidi Klum is very known throughout the world as a model and married to the famous singer Steal. With everything working out for him he created a major line and his own website (CD). Kors website is very as I like to call “professional”; I call it [website] professional because you feel as if you are at a meeting or handed over to royalty. Michael’s website directly calls him Mr. Kors, as in proper and empowering you. He even has a mission statement; “Michael Kors is the leading American fashion designer for luxury accessories and sportswear. The company's heritage is rooted in producing polished, sleek, sophisticated American sportswear with a jet-set attitude. Whether Aspen, Palm Beach or Capri, our mission is to bring our vision of a jet-set, luxury lifestyle to women and men around the globe. Our products, emblematic of the highest standard of quality, include apparel, accessories and beauty. Our lifestyle-driven company embraces the highest standards of creativity, quality, technology and human resources.” When I think of mission statement I think of helping others, not bragging about how amazing you are and spending hundreds of dollars to make you look fabulous when you could help out another mission statement. Lord and Taylor, Michael Kors bring a whole new dimension into looking at ads from who they are from (S).

The ad I choose to analyze is for Circus Fantasy Perfume. The ad has Britney Spears standing in a circus-like stage on one side and on the other side it has Britney sitting on a chair wearing a tiny little dress and showing a lot of leg. The ad also has her holding a magnifying glass, almost like she is fulfilling her childhood “fantasy” of being a spy. Almost like this perfume can make you anything you wish to be. In my paper I will discuss the career of Britney Spears from her highs to her lows. I will also discuss the target audience of the ad and also of the magazine in which I found the ad. I will also discuss how the trends of today’s youth have changed over the years. I also might look for statistics on how popular this ad is and if using Britney Spears was a wise choice or not. I will also look for symbols in the ad. The ad uses peaceful colors on one side and bright colors (like the circus) on the other. I will look for research on color and how it helps add to the effect of the overall theme of the ad. I will also look at why they choose to use two completely different settings for the same exact ad. I will analyze who Britney is looking at and why. I will look at what is being portrayed in the ad and why they are trying to portray it. Another thing I will look at is why did they name the perfume Circus Fantasy instead of just Circus. Is there a hidden meaning in the name of the perfume or do they just think the name sounds cooler. They might have named it that because it would make people think that if they wear this perfume they can be anything or anybody they want. They can fulfill their fantasies just by wearing this certain perfume.

The ad that I plan to write my paper about is an ad from the Victoria’s Secret Catalog (S). It shows a model, Alessandra Ambrosio, wearing a slinky nightgown and nothing else. Besides talking about her outfit and the setting of the ad, I also plan on writing about her career, her private life and how those things affect the way she is portrayed.
Alessandra was born in Brazil. (S) She’s 5 feet 10 inches tall and roughly 115 pounds. When she was just 12 years old, she started taking modeling classes. All of these things put together make her a perfect candidate for a Victoria’s Secret model. Victoria’s Secret’s models all have the perfect body and most of them are foreign, apparently because American women aren’t unique enough. (CD) Soon after she started taking classes, she got her first big modeling job for the cover of the Brazilian Elle magazine. She became a huge star and continued working with big-name brands including Revlon, Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani, Rolex, Oscar de la Renta, Gucci, and many, many more. She has appeared on over 50 magazine covers in the US as well as international magazines. In 2004, she even started her own line of swimsuits, which sold over 10,000 units in just the first month. In 2000 she first appeared in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show, and she is most known for the 2004 show in which she wore lingerie made completely out of candy. Since becoming a Victoria’s Secret “Angel” she has been named in People’s 100 most beautiful people in the world, and has also been named the #2 most desired woman in the world by Askmen.com. (CD)
To be a Victoria’s Secret model, Alessandra has to work hard to maintain her perfect body. Although it has been said that she has never had plastic surgery since her horrible surgery when she was 12, I find it hard to believe that someone is just born looking that incredible. Whether she has or not, she still works out all the time with a personal trainer doing the “Brazilian Butt Lift”, which is a mix of samba and aerobics. Some thing that people don’t usually hear about Victoria’s Secret models is their personal life. Alessandra is not single, like most men probably hope. She has a fiancé named Jamie Mazur, and she even had a baby girl last August named Anja Louise Ambrosio Mazur. (CD)

The ad I chose was a “Peak” antifreeze and coolant add with Danica Patrick. In the middle of the ad there is a picture of Danica Patrick standing in front of her Indy Car with her hands on her hips. She is standing in front of a mountain with a snow-covered “peak.” Coincidence? I think not. I feel that the “peak” in the background has a double meaning. One meaning being that it is the name of the product and another showing that it is cold and the product helps cool your engine. The ad also says “when you “peak,” you win.” Another meaning would be sexual because when you “peak” during sex you feel you have won or accomplished something. During racing in Danica Patrick’s circumstance you can win if you have good antifreeze in your car. Further in the ad it says, “Any make. Any model. Any time.” This also has a double meaning, it could mean any kind of car you drive it will work or any kind of person you are the “peak” will work.
Danica is a strong woman and a strong driver, the people that put the ad together thought about who they want in their ad and how they want to show the person. They chose to have her standing up and looking like a strong and intense woman trying to show that the antifreeze is strong and intense antifreeze. They are also trying to show if you want a woman like Danica you need to use “Peak” antifreeze and coolant. A woman the drives a Indy Car for a living is not just some ordinary woman she will be in your face and a strong person so she needs to use a strong in your face antifreeze. So if you are a person that needs to drive fast you need to use “Peak” antifreeze and coolant to cool your car. Danica doesn’t just use a every day antifreeze she uses the best and you should too.

In my ad, Marisa Miller is on top of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and wearing a very skimpy army outfit (cd). The ad is very suggestive that if you ride a Harley you will be a mans man and get women. It also says you will be free in the ad. (S) It has the text next the lady and the bike in red flowing font saying “American Bombshell” I don’t know if it is talking about the bike or the women on the bike (CD-CX). This ad is also targeting people who either have family in the military or have been in the military themselves. The bike is self is from a old military bike style with everything new expect the bike design it self. As if saying “by owning this bike you will own a peace of history” which you aren’t you are just owning a bike that looks like a peace of history. The ad it self is targeting men because a women wouldn’t look a this and go look a hot chick is on top of it I need one. Because sex sells they put a Swimsuit model on top of a Harley-Davidson targeting men with it. In the ad she is also looking back at you like she is waiting for you to take her for a ride the bike. The people at Harley-Davidson are targeting people who buy the magazine this ad is in. Its not only targeting young men its also targeting old navy vets because the ad is done in the pin up girl style that a lot them have. It’s one the first page of Maximum Magazine which is read mostly by men. The ad leads you to believe that because you ride there bike you will become free. You may feel free until you have to pay for the bike. Then when you do have to pay for it and in the parts where you can only use it 3-5 months you will ask your self why you bought it.

I choose an ad that is about competition. In the earlier years competition for a job or anything was between men. Women gained their rights over time. I picked this ad because its not a competition between men, but a competition between a man and a woman. People today still would prefer a man, unless the woman was considered sexy to them. In a feminist view its to prove society that women can compete with that as well, but also are we proving that women have to dress just to impress? The women who get jobs do they get hired because they dress sexy or they are very attractive? Why should women have to dress up every day to get treated the same as men. Men underestimate women and tell their self they have nothing to worry about. Well, I chose this ad because it is a series of pages. The first page the women is doing all the work, and all the dirty work as well. She is dressed casual but yet sophisticated. The man who is Justin Long, who is in many movies including Dodge ball, Accepted, and many more, is the man on the ad who looks confident that he has the job and doesn’t have to do any work. Throughout the ad she is gaining confidence and he is losing his. He looks like he is hesitant and not sure the outcome would be what he thought. She is dressing more impressive, and wearing a lot more flashy and confident outfits. Some outfits consists of a pattern of leopard, which shows that she is out to get the position of the job, and nothing is going to get in her way. He becomes to work for her and she can relax because she did all the work and earned her job. I picked this because it shows how these clothes can make somebody think they can succeed by buying and wearing these clothes. I also can explain the sequence of the ad and the feminist view, also showing that nobody should earn anything because of how “sexy” or “attractive”. It should be about how hard you work and try to be able to do your best. Are women still discriminated, or are women allowing and showing that society can men can discriminate and look down upon? This ad selling the clothes or telling people how competition is and how hard it will be able to live in the work field is for both men and women. I believe it is doing both, showing that it’s a competition for everything, and trying to sell clothes that make people think that they can be like the people in this ad of competition.

The ad I chose was one for silver jeans.(S) However it is extremely evident that it is advertising more than a pair of jeans has to offer.(cx) The scandelous scene takes place in a laundry matt, which is a public place. It shows three stick thin woment swarming a sexy shirtless man with a pair of jeans in his hand. The man is sitting in an old laundry cart that is filled to the top with the silver brand of jeans. He has no shirt on but he is wearing a scarf, suggesting maybe its a winter add, since the magagzine was from septemeber. One of the women has only a bra, underware, and socks on and she is a red head. fire hot maybe? the second women is half hidden behind the mans torso crawling over him it appears. She has a black t shirt on and a big warm winter hat, from a far she looks like vanessa hudgens(celebrity) so i might look into vanessa hudgens history since the add suggests if you wear the jeans you will be more like her. The third girl is coming off as more edgy and mysterious since her face is hidden by a hat.(cd)

Maybe the ad is suggesting that if you are a man and you wear these jeans women of all kinds will be drawn to you. If your a women viewing this ad, you get the idea that by wearing silver jeans, and taking them off for a guy is acceptable, and what 'eveyone' is doing. This ad is very decieving to young teens that read this magazine..which is TEEN vogue! so the target audience is definately teens and young girls, im sure they sell these jeans well, and also for my analysis i will have to look into where and how this jean company began and how popular its product is. It draws readers eyes in since its an unusual forbidden place(the sign in the back says employee's only) The women are half naked and the guy seems to be in heaven. yep that ought to sell jeans to young readers, not for the right reasons, but as far as the company is concerned whatever technique works right?!

The ad i chose was made for Skyy Vodka. In my analysis of the ad, I would include every small aspect I could find, not just the things that everyone notices at first glance. The bottle of Skyy is sitting in the lower left corner of the scene. In the right, is a martini glass full, obviously of vodka. There are three people in the ad. Pretty much all you can see of any of the people is their legs and arms. This simple technique wants you to put yourself into the picture, especially if you are a male, beings the other two are women. The advertisers want you to picture yourself in an elegant, sofisticated, and happy setting. Another thing I noticed about the two women, is that their legs are intertwined, leading you to believe what? Well, they are both wearing dresses, so revealing what little is not being covered up. They also seem very comfortable with the situation, is this all they do, drink and make men happy? I'm almost certain the man is very content in this event, stuck on a plane with two attractive, comfortable women who do not mind being touchy-feely with each other, let alone him. All three people are dressed very appropriately for the setting, with fancy shoes, jewelry, and clothing. Each hand is holding some sort of drink, probably vodka. The setting is also taking place inside of an airplane, most likely a private jet. You can see the blue sky (which matches the bottle of Skyy Vodka) and the clowds out the window. Everything looks very dreamy and perfect, which is probably what the advertiser is trying to compare the product to. I think it is crazy how much these ads appeal to people. I'm sure everytime Skyy Vodka or any other alcoholic beverage puts out an alluring ad, they sell alot more of their product. I'm sure alot of products are sold this way. It blows my mind.

My ideas for the ad are rather simple. It is a Revlon lipstick ad with Jessica Alba. I will talk about why the lipstick tubes are placed where they are, what the crimson red of her lips and the largest tube signify, why the ad tries to outdo the necessity of the little black dress, why have a celebrity in the ad, her public standings or significance, why her hair is styled the way it is and why she has a certain look on her face. However, those are just a few areas I will cover. I will mention the physiological aspect also, the sexuality of the ad, what makes it appealing to us and makes us think we need to have this product. I also the history of the little black dress and why women have thought of it as such a necessity for so long. The professional history of Jessica Alba and what made her just right to use in this ad; what career opportunities or roles has she played to make this ad really stand out to ordinary people and her ethnicity. They all play important aspects in the ad yet we rarely care enough to stop and break it down. To really dig through the meanings, placement, and postures of the products and people in ads requires time and thinking, you must absorb the ad as how it is meant to be, appealing, not by just what we see as we glance at it but what it is trying to tell or sell us. Using celebrities is a very beneficial way to ensure profit of the product because Americans now days are more obsessed and concerned with what famous people are doing than their own lives. In my paper I will cover society, ad agencies and what they really try to sell us, why we are so infatuated with fame, physiological meanings and triggers hidden within the ads, why sex sells, the history behind the things mentioned in the ad and also who the ad is trying to target.

The ad I chose is for Hershey's Special Dark chocolate.(S) Instead of just thinking about chocolate(which everbody does in there life at one time or another) you could think about what other products Hershey's makes. They are famous for their kisses and regular milk chocolate bars. In fact, it has a town name after it in Pennsylvania. What other product has its own town named after it? After awhile though, you start to wonder to yourself why or how the Hershey's chocolate bar was even invented. It has puzzled many people over the years, but some things are just better to be left unsolved. If everything was solved, then there would never be any suspense and life would be really tired and boring.

In the ad I have selected, the advertiser is using a young, muscular, attractive male to sell their product. The ad is trying to sell women’s perfume. (S) The name of it is “Curve”. At first glance you wouldn’t know what he is selling, because sex is boldly printed many times on this single paged ad. In addition the ad gives the impression that the selling of sex is directed towards women with the words “For women” on the front of the ad. He is staring deeply into your eyes, trying to draw your attention to this ad in the magazine. Where the word sex is used the sayings do not make sense. Some of the sayings are: “Sex Sex Tips”, “Guys Sex More Sex Guys”, and “Guys Sex More Sex”. This ad seems to be selling sex rather than the women’s perfume. The body oil and the lighting on this abs seems to be one of the main focuses instead of the perfume. Your eyes are instantly attracted to this hot guy’s washboard stomach. If the advertiser was to put a shirt on this guy and take off the sayings, the ad would lose a lot of consumer’s views. (CX) His lips have been touched up with lip gloss; he has them pursed ready to kiss you. At the bottom of the ad it says “Curve Fragrance for women. See where it takes you.” What is that suppose to mean? I didn’t know that a perfume could take you somewhere. You could also look into what else this brand sells. I found that that they also sell men’s cologne along with a bunch of other fragrances of Curve. What confuses me about the ad is why he has goggles and a snorkel on. I thought they were trying to sell perfume not snorkeling gear. The snorkel helps lead your eyes to where the perfume is located. (CD) I also think that the advisers had him grab his goggles to make his arm look extra buff and so it looks like he is flexing. One thing the ad lacks is the dominance of the brands name. If the title was bolded more, you would probably realize what this ad is selling a lot faster. (CD-CX) I feel that if their trying to sell perfume then the advertiser did not do a good job.

The ad I have chosen is The NIVEA MY SILHOUTTE! The text on this ad says “Rediscover your favorite jeans” (S) the second line of the text says “And how they still get his attention” (S). The second line is bolded so it grabs your attention that you can still get his attention. This ad was found in Cosmo which targets women, the women are aiming to please the man in there life so they think if they get this it will do it. The target market for this ad is definitely women. Its like women buy this lotion to get a man (CM) The Cultural effects this ad symbolizes is that women want to please there men and if they don’t look good in there jeans which of course they wont unless they buy this product, there man wont even notice them(CD). The solution to body image is well the girl looks happy because she can fit into her jeans again(CX). And if you think you don’t have a nice body get this lotion and you will look “hot,” their for you will feel better about life(CmCX). This ad could make big girls feel worse about themselves because the model in this ad is already skinny and the reader could be thinking “if she needs this lotion and she is really skinny, then I definitely need it” but once they use it and they don’t get the results they might expect from the product they could become depressed or start to develop other serious dieses like bulimia and anorexia. They think that you have to look good to get a guy to notice you because the ad shows it working, the guy cant even concentrate on his magazine he is so intrigued by how hot is wife is. I personally have fallen for a product before because how good the product was portrayed but I now know that they don’t there selling an image you want so you buy the product. I think people need to think more logically when they are shopping for a product sit back and think ok is it logical that a 200 some pound women will look like that using this? Nope but the advertisers want to make you believe you will.

One ad i looked at was ESTEE LAUDER SENDUOUS. It's perfume for woman.(S) The woman is staring right at you with her devious eyes, with a men's white button up shirt, of course, unbuttoned. While her shirt is unbuttoned, she also has nothing on under neith.(CX) The opening of the shirt is positioned just right so you can see a little part of her breast. The shirt is white for the color contrast, making the woman look tan and flawless. Because the woman's shirt is open and her hair is messed up a bit gives a sexual reference. Maybe wearing this perfume with also make men loath to have you. At the bottom of the ad it says "EVERY WOMAN WEARS IT HER WAY." You could look at that many different ways.(S) If you wear it your way, your dream way, men will want you, and you will get basically what ever you please.(CDCX) The only thing, other than the shirt she is wearing is black underwear. Black to me means sort of a sexual reference. The background is black too.(CD) The background is black i believe to make the woman, in white, stand out as much as possible. When you look at this ad you don't look at the black background, the first thing you look at is the woman who herself and her eyes pop out at you. The woman has a peaceful yet sexy/naughty look on her face. You can tell that she isn't just an innocent woman. The word placement in this ad was not done on accident. The ESTEE LAUDER SENSUOUS is placed right under her breast, where most men's eyes would more than likely go first, then it leads you to the name. This woman seems to have the look of every woman's dream: a flawless body, eyes of suduction, and in a man's shirt which could mean only one thing..

The ad I chose was another beer ad. The beer ad I'm going to write about is about Miller Lite. The ad is titled “The official Miller guide to Beer Penalties”. It has a picture of a referee making a call, but this time this call is a good call. The referee looks like a football referee, and is sort of giving thumbs up while staring you down kind of forcing you to drink Miller Lite. The penalty he was calling is

“Ineligible Beer in the Cooler”. The rest of the text says “ The presence of a Bud Light in a cooler otherwise filled with Miller Lite, which has more taste and half the carbs. Ineligible Beers are often brought to your party by uninvited guests, also known as Ineligible people on the couch”. “Good Call: To avoid Ineligible Beer in the cooler, fill only with great tasting, less filling Miller Lite. Make the call for more”. This ad is degrading to all other beers because it makes it seem like it is the best beer out their, and that u wont be penalized for drinking Miller Lite. I know all beer companies compete against each other to get more sold than the other. But I found this beer ad in a sports illustrated magazine, which can be viewed by all ages, which can in turn be bad for our children because the more they see it, the more and more interested they will become. So I think alcohol ads should not be in the grasp of young children. And most beer ads promote bad ideas to the viewers of the ad. The beer ad i wrote about for the last blog, was somewhat promoting drinking and driving. Which is not what we want the youth of America to be seeing in ad, and especially in magazines.

The ad i chose was a Tampax Pearl ad. (S) There's a young teenager laying in her white sheets and white comforter, with "mother nature" leaning over her bed, with an evil scary look , about to blow a trumpet in her face to wake her up.(CD) It says right over the girl's head- "dont let mother nature interrupt your dreams." This ad is basically saying, by using tampax pearl, you wont get little presents that wake you up in the middle of the night.(cX) Theres also a little present sitting on her end table with bright red wrapping paper. This ad has color, but its all really mellow colors. Then, there's a bright red present sitting on the table. They do this to make it stand out alot. They also use the white sheets to point out if you use tampax pearl you will always have these white of sheets....but, in the long run, any other brand such as a wal mart brand would be just as good.

In the ad that I decided to chose has a miller lite bottle with a vampire cape over it. In the bottom right of the ad it says sink your fangs into great taste. Also the light is shining on it making miller light almost invincible and the best beer. Also it has a really artistic background over a town and clouds in the sky. I think they did this to show that miller light is above and better than anything out there. And if vampires can drink it which they only drink blood anyone can which really gets you thinking. It makes you want to drink it just from the ad itself if I was the age there wouldn’t be a doubt in my mind miller light would be at the top of the list. With the sun in the background it really brightens up the picture and puts yours eyes right on the bottle which is a really great idea and works. The wind is blowing as you can see from the cape and the red underneith also makes it brighten. All these bright colors with the dark cloudy background really gets your eye. In my ad im thinking about getting both the stats and what the majority people drink. In the way back there is a moon its saying that if you get this it will be the best of both worlds. Not only that but with the sun in also in the picture which makes the viewer think that you don’t have to have a good time at night but drink it in the day also. With what is written on the ad if you drink this you will be surely satisfied with the drink and if vampires can do it sure can you. When the sun goes down miller light rules the night. Nothings better then a nice cold fresh miller light.

There are so many things other than the video game itself that I can talk about looking at this Demon Stone ad. The makers of the ad put “From the developers of the bestselling game The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” into the ad because they knew that The Lord of the Rings series was an extremely popular series that everyone knew and loved. This is the first big thing I can talk about in my ad analysis paper. I can go into the whole background of what The Lord of the Rings is and WHY it was so popular. I will say how much money The Lord of the Rings series cost to create and then talk about how much money it has made over the years through all of the movies, books, and video games. I can then talk about who the ad is targeting in particular and why it was put in the magazine where it was put. In this case, the ad was placed in a Maxim magazine, and that leads one to believe that it is mainly targeting men. This ad isn’t only targeting nerds and gamers, though; it is targeting ALL men because even though some of the “cool people” don’t like to admit it, they play video games on a daily basis. This ad also gives you a web address. This web address is the Atari website, where you can browse the entire selection of Atari games. I can especially talk about the fonts in the ad. Demon Stone is written in a very demonic, ancient-time looking font that gets someone to believe that the game is set in the past where things are very primitive. I can also talk about the quote that is the crown jewel of the entire ad; the thing that every gamer loves to hear about a video game.
S: I can especially talk about the fonts in the ad.
S: This ad also gives you a web address.
CD: In this case, the ad was placed in a Maxim magazine, and that leads one to believe that it is mainly targeting men.

The ad i chose is a Silver Patron ad.(s) It is a bottle of Patron with a white background so it is the only thing on the page except for a couple of words. The words say "Some Perfection is Debatable" then below it next to the bottle it says "Some is Not, The worlds #1 ultra-premium tequila" Under the words that state it is the best tequila it also lists a website simplyperfect.com. If i was to write on this ad i would talk about how the words try and portray the brand as the one and only. They make it seem like any other brand of tequila is below theirs and that if you want to really drink the best you have to drink Patron. Next, i would talk about how Patron has set themselves up in the Rap/Pop music industry. They have used musical artists to sing about them in their music. If people hear that a famous celebrity is drinking a certain brand of tequila for 3 minutes on the radio, don't you think that they would be persuaded that they need to drink it also? People are so much like sheep that they will follow whatever a popular person is doing or drinking just to try and seem cool. Also in the music with Patron mentioned there is usually some pretty sexual references. America is basically driven by sex. Sex is everywhere even though you might not notice it. I would also talk about the placement of the ad in Sports Illistraded. Mostly men look at sports illistrated. This ad is very clean cut and makes guys think that maybe if they drink it they could be clean cut also. Finally i would mention how much people are moved by words. Basically if you tell a person what they want to hear and not the downsides or negatives to the item they will believe anything. It is basically what the world is run on. Look at Politics for example. Candidates always tell you one thing but will either go against their word or just barely follow what they said. They try and butter the things up that they say to make you feel as if it is the right thing but then when it comes time for action then don't do it or left out parts that would have discouraged people from believing.

The ad I am choosing to analyze is an ad from People magazine. The ad is for Murphy Oil. Murphy Oil pledged to pay for college for hundreds of kids. The picture is of a bunch of people who have their diplomas in hand and are in cap and gown.
In the center of this picture there is an Asian guy who is the only one with his hat off. He is holding it up and staring up right at the camera while the others are looking forward not up. I think this is racial profiling because Asians are stereotypically smart. The other people looking at the camera are all minorities; four black people, and a few other darker skinned people.
I do not think this was an accident to have a minority as the center of attention. This makes Murphy Oil look like they are the hero that helped this minority get his college education, because it is the classic “rags to riches” story. The underprivileged driven Asian boy become a college educated successful man.
I believe this was a very smart ad for Murphy Oil. When you look at this ad you are impressed that that a single company can help so many people. The effect of this ad is the next time you are getting gas consciously or subconsciously you are going to pick Murphy Oil over the competitor, because you want to help get more people a higher education. If Murphy Oil is helping so many people they must be a good company. A good company that you are willing to pay three dollars a gallon because they are helping so many people in your community.
If I was buying gas in this city I would choose Murphy Oil. This means the ad was successful.

Beautiful Moments Are Born In The Shower. This may not seem sexual or sensuous when you first read it. The ad I chose to analyze for this blog was one I came across in Cosmopolitan Magazine. It's for Nivea Touch of Happiness Body Wash. This ad is obviously directed towards women. It is in one of the most popular magazines for women. In this ad, there is a man and a woman. The woman is facing us, while the man is holding her at the small of her back and his eyes are mostly closed. It looks as if he is smelling her. His shirt is unbuttoned slightly, while she is wearing a tank top that reveals almost all of her back and her skin looks wet and soft. They scene is very misty and tropical. A picture of the body wash is in the far right corner. The text in this ad says, Beautiful Moments are Born in the Shower. under that is says, New Nivea Touch of Happiness Body Wash. A hint of orange blossom. The nourishing touch of bamboo essence. Luxurious ingredients come together for an entirely new sensation in moisturizing body wash. And under that it says Nivea - Touch and be Touched. Now, I believe this ad is suggesting beautiful moments are born in the shower with your man. Why else would this man be in the ad. I see a hint of a Tarzan and Jane feel. She is in a jungle like setting and he is holding her as if to keep her close and protect her. This ad is telling that you will only have sexy moments with your partner in the shower if you use this specific body wash, and with all of their ingredients mixed together you will have the most sensational soft, moisturized skin for people to caress. Touch and Be Touched? So if you use this body wash you will be touched by people or your lover. The body wash you use is not going to touch you with happiness. Body wash does not answer the questions to your life or your happiness. There are tons of body washes. Who you are and what you accomplish do not depend on which type you use. Any product will wash your body, but with this specific brand your sorrow will go down the drain as well, it's up to if you want to send your money down the drain as well to get the brand name.

When I think about cotton clothing i think of simple t-shirts and sweaters, but this ad says a little different. There is a good looking young woman walking down stairs into a party i presume. There is two girls; one is giving her the death stair as she's going up and the other is trying to keep her gorgeous guy friend to stop staring. Also in the picture there are two other handsome young men who can't seem to keep their eyes off of her all because she's wearing this pink cotton dress. She has shiny tan legs, long brown hair, and brown eyes that arn't even looking at the camera. They arn't even looking at the men as if she's possibly playing hard to get. At the top it says in bold letters, "DON'T JUST SHOW UP. MAKE AN ENTRANCE." Don't just be good, be amazing, be the best, be better than everybody else there. This simple cotton dress will give you all the attention you could ever need or want. But it also could be a positive ad. She's walking in alone, no man with her, no man to hang on and be needy too. She's not looking at the men as they're staring her down and tripping over their own feet. She's being independent. If you have this dress, you don't need a man. The dress is made of cotton, a very natural material. It's natural to be alone and independent. No woman NEEDS a man...besides for making babies.

S- It's natural to be alone and independent.

CD- There is two girls; one is giving her the death stare as she's going up the stairs and the other is trying to keep her gorgeous guy friend to stop staring.

CX- While she wore the pink cotton dress, the men couldn't take their eyes off of her.

CDCX- It is possible that if she wasn't wearing the cotton dress she wouldn't be getting all of the attention, but that's very unlikely.

Michael Jordan could stand alone as the top athlete of all time. (S) His unbelievable career in sports does not make him just another Superstar; Jordan has become a sport God to every athlete in North America. (CD) This is why he is marketing gold and just putting his face on a bottle of Gatorade makes people want to like Holy Water. (CD) Since he has created such an empire of fame all directly associated with sports, he is the everyday King Midas. (CX) I went to Gatorade’s website to find an ad; I did not need to look any further. Dressed in a black distinguished suit and a golden trophy tie standing adjacent to other top-notch professional athletes is Michael Jordan. He seems to almost nullify the other players around him. As I clicked on his robust torso, he crosses his arms and intensely glares right at me and he demands the attention of his audience. (CD-CX) Over his head is a highlight reel of his spectacular performances as a basketball player and his accomplishments are all displayed next to him. The atmosphere feels like you are in the presence of greatness. Within seconds of visiting the site, I have felt overwhelmed and in awe of the eminences of MJ. Gatorade knows they have a czar of marketing. With three different thirst-quenching flavors, Gatorade has made six collectable “Jordan Now, Then, and Forever” labels. They are no longer just a bottle of juice; they are an urn that will lead you to a fame, fortune, and power.

The woman used for this Makita ad is drop dead gorgeous. She has the perfect body with the perfect tan; which most girls envy. She is seen as a sex icon to males. This ad targets males 25+ in my opinion because they could find a use for this product and the woman helps sell to the fantasy driven men. She was chosen for this ad for her incredible looks and her irresitable figure. Today men desire flawless, perfect, bombshells that leave all the others in envy. She most likely has modeled for other ads and will continue to do it. This ad could belittle women and and make them think, "This is what I have to look like in order to be craved by men." Also, this ad could make men think that they deserve a woman like this and wont settle for anything less. It's sad how ad with "real" woman don't sell. Not only America but around the world ads target sex driven men and woman and use sexy people for their ads. Because we are all shallow; our self-esteem gets shot down a little bit every day. I'm not just saying men are shallow but women are also! I'm guilty of staring at an ad with an abocrombie model looking guy vs. an an average joe. Let's face the facts we all covet the things we can't have but ads just make that more apparent!!

The ad that I am analyzing for my paper is a Gatorade ad with Usain Bolt crossing the finish line during the 2009 World Championships in Berlin when he broke his own 100m record with a 9.58s. At the bottom of the paper it says "Talk about lightning in a bottle...". In my paper I will talk about his journey to fame and how using Usain Bolt as a spokesman is ironic because Gatorade's symbol is a lightning bolt. Usain Bolt is considered to be the best runner of all times. He is the fastest man in the world right now and he is looked up to as a hero by a WHOLE country. Why not use someone like that to try and sell your product? It is a brilliant way to advertise a product. Bolt may have just come into the limelight a few years ago during the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, but in these last couple years he has revived a nation and broke two world records during the Olympics(100m and 200m) and than breaking his own record a year later(100m). Once upon a time though, Bolt wasn't that good of a runner. He took the time though to improve his training and now we all know him as the fastest man in the world.

There are many things in my ad that I can mention in my paper. My ad is from a Comso magazine and it is advertising Downy Simple Pleasures. I will mention the simple things like why the product is in the bottom corner, and why their hands are in that same corner also, alluding to the product. I will talk about why there is a salad on the table, and why he is kissing her on the neck. Although these points seem simple and maybe a little too obvious, there is more to the story, for example, why is the ad next to the tampons and weight loss ads in the magazine. I might also mention why the people in this ad are between the ages of 25-30, or who they are appealing to. In addition to those things, there is text in the middle to lower part of the woman's abdomen that says "staying in is no reason your alluring side shouldn't come out" (the "staying in" part is in much larger text than the rest.) Also, in larger text towards the bottom of the page, by the product in larger text it says "feel more". This would make the consumer think that if they purchased this product they would feel more and be more alluring. I might also talk about empty promises that these advertisements can give a consumer and the consequences that can follow.

My advertisement is about the Levi brand of jeans. Other things that I could talk about in my paper include the sale of Levi jeans in the past. I could also talk about the actual history of Levis and how long they have been used. Male confidence could also come into play in my paper in the way that the jeans are portrayed in the ad, shown folded and then all ruffled with the pockets hanging out. Planning about my paper would include an analysis of my ad before I get into the history behind the pants and into sales of the brand. Another thought that I could get into during my paper is the magazine that I received this ad from. Wired tends to be a magazine that is marketed towards men and would make men think that if they buy this brand of jeans that they could become more confident and maybe get more ladies. I could also get into the biology of males and what makes “us” tick. Sociology fits into my paper because of men and women getting together and possibly the testosterone and estrogen factors which alludes to Freud. Colors in the ad can also contribute to the effectiveness of the ad. When I look at this ad I see that the words on the ocean are white and stand out to the consumer. Then when you look at the jeans the background is blue and the words are still white. The sea and the sea foam could be a possible folic symbol in that water is part of the female organs. The foam could be referring to the male organs and what they create. When you look at the jeans for a second time and they are all wrinkled beneath it says “when there is work to be done” could be another thing talking about sex. There are so many ways that I could write about my ad and I definitely know where to begin.

The ad I chose to analyze is an ad in Cosmo. This particular ad is for Curve perfume for women [S]. At the top of the page it says Curve in huge, fancy letters. Right under that it says for women. Right smack in the middle of th page there is a very attractive man. He is tan, muscular, and good looking. He is wearing a swimming suit and on his head he has snorkling goggles and a snorkle. The background of the ad is a very bright pink. On the bottom of the page it says "Curve fragrance for women. See where it takes you." Then there is a bottle of Curve Crush. To the left and rigt of the man are the words guys, sex, more sex, guys, sex tips, guys, and more sex. There are many different kinds of Curve, in this ad I assume they used curve Crush because who wouldn't crush over this guy?![CD] He's sexy! Especially if they actually knew him. nless he was a total herk or way to into himself I don't know who wouldn't.[CX] The words on the sides of the ad are all good sized, but sex just happens to be the word that is the bigggest in every group?![CD-CX] I don't think so. Alot of young teen girls read this magazine, and not saying sex is bad, but I think this ad is sending your girls not so good messages. Alot of women read this magazine also. This ad is telling them that if they use Curve it will take them to places like, I would have to say by the looks of this man/God in the middle of the page, heaven! Curve does a very good job of grabbing attentio.[S] The pink clor, cute font, and for sure the half naked man in the middle of the page is definately eye catching!

The ad i had chosen is a Ford truck ad i could talk about how ford had became what it is today go into the history of the first ford vechiles. I could also talk about how trucks are used for some people and how they sometimes boost the confidence of some men. In the ad the truck is on the top of which looks like the grand canyon it shows the truck can withstand going over rocks and anything you put in front of it, it is showing how tough the truck is. The ad is targeting male figures as most men do drive trucks cause it is the manly thing to do you can also make the truck your own by adding to it like a better exhaust system lights chrome. all which make the vechile pop. In the add i can talk about the dependibility of the truck how does it stack up to others i can also show how there sales are between other competitiors like Chevy, Dodge, Nissan, and Honda with the trucks they make. I can also talk about which celebritys endorse the Ford truck like Toby Keith and Mike Rowe who get paid thousands of dollars for mentioning the name and free stuff from Ford.

I haven't quite decided on my add yet for my paper.(simple) In my add I will be looking at including who the person is thats in the add. If the person is famous I will include some history on the person and why perhaps this person is advertising for that product. If the person in the add is not famous I will look to what the person offers to that add which made them a perfect person to be in the add. One of the things i will look at is where on the page where the words are located and what things they used in the add to make your eyes to the product being advertised. I will analyze the setting and how that relates to the products being advertised.(compound)Because the person is so important to the add I will analyze how the person is sexually advertising the product.(complex)
Take the Jennifor Lopez add for example with the background be green and very neutral it really draws us to the blue bottle at the bottom of the page and surprisingly the words of the company and Jennifor lopez are right there. Jennifer Lopez sells the product and she graps the attention of the reader because she has a very sexual and appealing look and her face and in her eyes.(compound-complex) There is many things to look at in adds and to analyze and most of the things we look at ive realized has come natural to me but ive over looked most of it. I have become so accustomed to looking at advertisments now days that most of the things in the add ive overlooked them.(compound) Since starting to analyze adds I have began to look more in depth and have seen more about the adds.

I am analyzing a tampon ad. The woman starts out kick boxing then turns into her dancing. I would like to analyze how dancing appeals to women, but how kick boxing could appeal to someone athletic. The ad is saying that the tampon is strong enough to work during the most rigorous workouts, or as simple enough, as a night out on the town. Although it is not aimed at men, if could appeal to a man by having an attractive woman on it, or by the sports view on it. I am going to analyze how she is dancing around the page, and kick boxing to prove she is tough. This appeal to women because it is empowering and showing that woman can be tough, yet swift at the same time. I could also analyze the sexual side of the ad by analyzing how a short dress or a party could lead to having sex or having an extremely good time. Partying generally leads to drinking or drug use, which leads to unclear thinking. The ad is empowering yet degrading to women, showing they can be strong, yet weak if the opportunity were to arise. Also, I could analyze how a woman’s menstrual cycle affects their day to day lives, and how it changes a woman’s attitude and feelings. It puts a damper on some things. Or, I could go from an angle of a teen and how it could ruin a teen girls day when they have their menstrual cycle.

I chose an ad that includes Paris Hilton(S). The ad is selling perfume, “Siren” by Paris Hilton. The overall idea of the ad is Paris Hilton sitting on a rock in the ocean. She is not wearing a shirt but her hair is long. She is wearing a mermaid like outfit on the bottom. Besides talking about the ad I also plan on writing some about Paris Hilton and I plan on talking about Siren (CD). I will start out with Paris Hilton. Paris Hilton is of course a Hilton Hotel heiress and socialite, and is considered as a model, singer, actress, writer and fashion designer. Paris was born February 17, 1981 in New York City. She sang different songs like “Stars are Blind”. Hilton has modeled for magazines and advertising campaigns. Paris has been in many movies and has costarred with Nicole Richie, in the reality show “The Simple Life”. She has other perfumes such as Paris Hilton, Just Me, and Heiress and Fairy Dust. In Greek mythology, the Sirens lived on an island and with the overwhelming charm of their song they lured mariners to their destruction on the rocks surrounding their island. In early Greek time Sirens were represented as birds with the heads and sometimes chests, of women, and the Siren could sing. Later in history the Siren was considered a beautiful woman/ mermaid. Being a socialite, Hilton has a very recognizable face, people from all over the world know who Paris Hilton is. I’m guessing when they choose this name because they knew that Paris would be able to sell this (CDCX). Since Hilton is considered beautiful, and could sing she was perfect for the “job”. Hilton does look like she is a mermaid (S). She is not wearing a shirt, but has long hair to covering everything up. She is wearing a mermaid shaped outfit on bottom with is gold sequins everywhere. Like mermaids, she is sitting on a rock in the water of an island.

I the ad chose to analyze I believe was in lucky magazine, which is a magazine for young women. The add is for a new deodorant fragrance from BAN. It is called "Twisted Vanilla". The ad shows three girls waiting in line at the girl's bathroom and then another girl walking out of the men's bathroom. This ad is in all shades of green, which I think symbolizes that the girls waiting in line and that anyone who doesn't own this deodorant is really green with envy, becuase they want to be daring. Also, the girl walking out of the men's bathroom is dressed in all black with stick-straight black hair and also her top has straight black fringes all over. I think this symbolizes being edgy and different, just like the "Twisted Vanilla" fragrance.
One of the girls in line for the girl's room is wearing a short white dress and is blonde, and when you look at her it reminds you of innocence and i think that is what is trying to be portrayed by her wearing white and that innocence is lost when you wear twisted vanilla. Also one of the other girls in line for the girl's room is wearing a short green dress. i think this goes back to the "green with envy" theme. I suppose for this add i could look in to what scents are considered more attracting, like what scents appeal to people the most and how those stats tie in with the twisted vanilla frangrance. it also appears that these girls are at a club of some sort and that maybe if you use this deodorant it will make you more confident to go out, and be edgy? Also a lot of what we relate things to is based on smells. like its known that scents are one of the main things that triggers our memories. i could analyze how that connects to this ad. i could also analyze their hairstyles and what they're wearing on a deeper level and compare how they are dressed to what people think when they see a person wearing a specific type of clothing.

The ad I chose is Paris Hilton’s Fairy Dust perfume. In this ad Paris Hilton is pictured as a fairy, one that can grant your every wish. She looks as if she is everything she has ever dreamed herself to be with her head tilted the way it is and her body language. One thing I would have to say is that she is extremely skinny. If you put this perfume on you will be just like a fairy small and magical. (CX) Paris looks as if she is enchanted by the very presence of the perfume. It seems that in today’s times that it is very important for you to look and be a certain way. Paris Hilton’s ad does not seem to be rebellious from that at all. It shows how her body is perfectly tanned and shaped. (S) Her hair is perfectly drawn back to show how her neck is arched, making it look a bit sexual. Paris’ stance has a look at me and I am special look; although she looks a little drawn back. (CD-CX) Paris Hilton is known for her popularity in the media. Even if you don’t know who Paris Hilton is you have definitely seen her. She is known as a socialite, heiress, model, singer, author, fashion designer, and an actress. (S) She seems to have done everything she possibly could do to capture every bit of audience she needs. Paris’ name also is well known and most people are reminded of Paris. (CD) Paris is romantic and someplace a woman wants to be, but not only now do you think of Paris the city but you also think of Paris Hilton. She has captured your mind with the most romantic city any woman thinks about.

The ad I chose is from a Seventeen catalog. The ad is for The Venus Embrace Razor. There is a girl and a guy sitting on a bench the girl is wearing short shorts with her legs towards him. His hand is on her thigh. It appears that they are both laughing. He is leaning in near her ear. Maybe he told her a secret in her ear. In the background it seems to be some body of water; it may be a river, lake, or sea. The product is in the lower right hand corner where you would be turning the page with your hand. The product is located like such because they want you to know the product and when you see it in the store you will buy it.
Is a coincidence that the male and female are both colored? The couple is sitting close to one another. Next to the product in the lower right hand corner says, get closer or your money back. With this product you can get closer with one you want to be with. How close does that mean? In a Freudian lens I see it as them getting it on in bed. It seams it may be close to sunset because they may be on a date. This ad may be catching women because of the romance. What is more romantic than being with someone you have a good time with and by the beach when it is near sunset? The woman’s face is more shown than the man’s face. In a feminism view this is great because the woman seems more dominant.
In the upper right of the ad it states: THE GODDESS OF FLIRTATION; Embrace The Latest From Venus; The only five bladed razor surrounded by a ribbon of moisture that shaves your legs closer than ever and leaves you skin smoother than ever.* Let the embracing begin. According to dictionary.com embrace means to take in the arms, press to the bosom, hug, and surround. So with the Venus Embrace your legs will be surrounded in moisture and men will want to embrace you closely. Similar to in this picture the man is embracing the woman’s leg making her feel wanted or embraced.

First of all, JLo has always been known for her butt, which is why it would play a part in this Ad. This ad definitely targets women, and more precisely young women.
JLo is looking at the consumer, the buyer, saying “buy me if you dare to be like this!” Not looking, but staring into the soul, bragging, telling the consumer “I’m rich, famous, hot, buy this and become as close as you can to being like me, and/or your dream!” Just the way she sits there, all curled up, in her sexy pose, very naughty and sexy. sitting there all alone in her hammock, mysterious like, make this ad effective to targeting the young. There is no doubt that she is naked, and no doubt that she just got done with a fun activity, the way her hair is all over the place.
Now getting down to it, the hammock is necessary because it shows paradise. When people thinks of hammock they think of warm vacation spots with no stress, beautiful and a good time. The tropical background goes with the hammock in taking people away from the environment that they are in. The rainforest and the red flowers just add to this advertisement. Farther back in the background, what is that, maybe water, chances are it’s in the tropics, a vacation paradise spot, only available for the rich and famous, which is what she is. However, the grand chandelier shows that this is truly for the rich and the best of the best. It could also show that she is formal, but at the same time, very naughty, sitting so sexy in her sac of divinity with the purpose to lure the innocent. The floor beneath her also could also she that she is formal, but could also show that if the activity she does in her hammock gets out of hand she may be able to roll out of hammock and not hit the ground, but instead just hit the wood right underneath her.
Now to the product itself, it shines there on the wood. There is no way the product looks that nice, the way it shines, it almost looks legendary or hold some type of magic from a fairy tale. Nothing ever looks that good, is it ironic that the product looks like a ball, which is what a women tries to get, or is hoping to get by getting this product. The ad also says above the product to let desire lead you, this may work for those planning to get divorces many times and ruin many lives, but hey, you let desire lead you, and should always be happy with your life. Let desire lead you means you won’t have to do any work, always be happy and live the life of a star. Really this is unrealistic and tragic for people that fall for the saying, in belief that it may work.

Jennifer Lopez is sitting in her hammock. (S)
She has her hair flown all over the place. (S)
Jennifer Lopez is famous and she is also known for her but (CD)
She looks at the buyer, and encourages you to buy what she is selling. (CD)
Jennifer Lopez is famous but she is using her body in this advertisement to target young women into buying her product. (CX)
I look at this ad and am disgusted when it says ‘let desire lead you’. (CX)
This ad lures young women because it has a young hip, famous female, JLo uncovering herself in a sexy pose, in a sexy environment. (CD-CX)
The product shines so luminous and bright, it hold the key to make anyone happy, but it does all this at a cost. (CD-CX)

I chose to analyze a Secret deodorant ad (S). In the ad there is a blonde haired woman in a red dress that reveals her mid section and her back. Because the woman is standing in between the trees she appears to be the centerpiece of the ad, and catches your eye instantly (CD-CX). The roots and branches of the tree are wrapped around her lower section and they are gripping her tightly (CD). She is holding up some sort of pink sparkling ball (S). There are butterflies, cherries, flowers, crystals, and fairies randomly placed in the ad. The ad is set in the nighttime and the color scheme is mostly red and pink with a little yellow here and there (CD). So besides, what is being shown in this ad I would analyze the audience the ad is trying to target. Because the ad contains butterflies, flowers, fairies, and so on, it is obviously meant to grab a teenage girls attention (CX). The color scheme alone, with it’s deep red and brightly pink colors could draw almost any girl’s attention immediately. I would also analyze the covert messages and symbols hidden in the ad. I think this ad is somewhat sexual in many ways. I think that the use of cherries in the ad is quite suggestive (S). And the fact that the scent is called “Cherry Mischief” could also be interpreted in a sexual way. Because this ad contains many sexual references, I will use my Freudian Lens throughout my paper (CD-CX). I could also analyze the morals our grandparents and parents had, compared to the things we think are correct today. The trees in the ad have faces on them (S). On one tree the faces are happy and young, while on the other they appear sad and worn. The tree with the older looking faces has an owl on it as well. Since owls are known for being wise, I feel that it was placed there intentionally (CX). I believe that the makers of this ad know the older generations morals are more wholesome than the morals most have today, but they know what sells…sex.

One of the models in the Victoria's Secret ad that I'm analyzing is Alessandra Ambrosio. She is modeling the new Body by Victoria bra (S). She is the perfect model for Victoria's Secret because she has the perfect body and sexy look (CX). Alessandra has her own website and it contains stats about her and her biography (CD). On her webpage it states that she is 5'10", 112 lbs, measurements: 34-23-34, and size 2. In my paper i plan to include more information about the models. Since men are attracted to women like Alessandra, American women feel the pressure to look like Alessandra, but it is almost impossible for anyone to be that tall and thin (CDCX). The ad has writing on it that says "Love your body", but you can't love your body when you don't look like the models (CDCX). These models have helped make Victoria's Secret the leading specialty retailer of lingerie and beauty products.
In my paper I also plan to include the history of Victoria's Secret. The VS stores of the past are completely different than they are now. When VS was first founded by Roy Raymond the stores were meant to create a comfortable environment in which men could purchase lingerie for their wives (CX). Now VS has 1000 stores and men almost never shop there (CD). The Victoria's Secret models, including Alessandra, help create $5 billion in annual sales.

For my ad I decided to do a powder concealer called Powderflage. This product is produced by benefit. (S) The husband is standing next to the women saying, “You’re tellin’ me this little bad-boy will diffuse her dark circles and fine lines...SOLD!” This font just happens to be in curse. It makes this man look like he is a bit feminine but his looks aren’t feminine-like. (CD) Because this women is getting older, her husband wants her to cover up all her wrinkles. (CX) The women is wearing a camouflage dress.(S) I think she is wearing this camouflage dress because she wants to blend in with society. She wants to be flawless and pretty like all the other girls out there. Even though this ad looks like it was made in the 50’s beauty is still heavily influenced on society. Make-up isn’t meant to be caked on your face like some girls think. What is wrong with the natural looking girls? Flawless and skinny, the wife is deciding if she wants the product but she doesn’t have to decide since her husband is ready to buy it for her.(CDCX) Powderflage is suppose to cover all dark circles and fine lines but when I did some research on the product I got some people’s feedback. This one women used this product once and her black circles around her eyes did not go away. She was informed that her circles were too dark for this product to hide. If she wanted to hid her dark circles she had to use more then just this one concealer. Any women who is thinking about buying this product because it hides all should really rethink that idea. One product of make-up cant hide everything. Because the husband wants the wife to get the product, she figures she must do it to make her husband happy. (CX)

The ad I chose to analize was an Axe Essence ad. The ad puts in a New York street setting. There is a man and a woman walking on the sidewalk, the rediculous part of this commercial is the man is slipt in half with his top half next to the girl and his bottom half is looking at a lingerie stand in a window. I find it ironic that the bottom half of the man is the part that looks at the lingerie, indicating the sexuality of the lower part of the man is more attracted to the lingerie instead of the girl. His top half has the man with his arm around just an average girl in a light blue dress. The man is wearing a pink dress shirt, and the pants are blue jeans. The lingerie is a firey sexy red with long-stalkings. I believe they used a New York style background, because many places on the street have lingerie stands, making it seem that men splitting in two is more natural. The man isn't wearing a wedding ring implying that single men are the target of this Axe ad. The slogan for this commercial is "Part good, part bad. That's man's essence". This ad is trying to get men to leave their relationship ties and only use them for sexual pleasure. There are vent ironically in the shape of hearts right next to the pants that are baffled by the sexiness of the hot red lingerie. The bright red stands out the most in the ad, everything else is dull and gray or a faded blue. There is also in the background some suitcases which is possibly trying to say that men should pack up and leave their women. The word lingerie is brightly written in the window with a hot red, and in a cursive writting form. This casual New York Strip setting may imply that in the busy streets on New York there isn't time for a true relationship....just a hot and sexfull one. I believe this commercial was well done they took the time to even match the shadows of just half a man and his pants, because of this it makes the ad even more believable. People like to do things that they are capable of and with this commercial so realistic it may provide more of an edge for men to buy this product. Then again this product clams to do the impossible and that is to split yourself in half. This product my be trying to get you to believe that if you buy it then you can perform the impossible. The mood of this ad is classic and devious. This commercial can really put the readers mind at ease, by telling him he can SPLIT apart from his relationship worries and just keep moving on.

The following words I'm about to write are based on an ad that will "blow your mind" quite literally. The ad that I am talking about is representing a perfume is called Flowerbomb. Obviously insinuating that the perfume will be like a bomb of scent which will smell something similar to flowers, into your nostrils. It's the first perfume concocted by Viktor & Rolf. From what the ad looks like to me, it's a beautiful young woman, I would say early twenties. She looks naked and only shows the belly up from the side. Her breasts are covered by black ribbons with white lettering that is also wrapped around her shoulders that says "Flowerbomb, Viktor & Rolf" over and over again. The woman is holding in her left hand a pink bottle that looks like a stereotypical grenade, the classic Tom and Jerry playtoy. This explosive device must be the Flowerbomb perfume bottle. It also shows a pinkish semi-transparent cloth above her head in the shape of a rose obviously simulating that that the "grenade" of scent in her hands has indeed blown and the cloth is flying back from the impact of the blast. This ad must be representative of a generation of people who require a boom in order to move them. Young kids nowadays simply aren't motivated unless they get a sudden kick in the pants. This Flowerbomb ad has color, pizzazz and indeed an explosive nature which appeals to the younger detonation-loving generation. Quite obviously men would want to by this for their girlfriends/wives/in-laws/other important ladies in their lives because it has a nude woman right schmack dap in the middle of the ad. For men, it seems as though naked woman act like a stop sign. Men always have to look and come to a complete stop before proceeding. It would also appeal to the more feminist lens because the woman looks peaceful and simply put, a flower. It looks like her body is the stem of a flower and the cloth above her head could be the pedals of a pretty pink flower. Surely this ad was indeed explosive, but the real question is, does the product match the photograph?

I am writing about a Vera Wang hers/his perfume ad and I am relating it to the world wide phenomenon Twilight. The book was published on June 2, 2003. It took some effort to get the book pulished though, they did not think a vampire story would be very popular. Fools, the lot of them. Twilight has sold 17 million copies world wide and is written in 37 different languages. It also spent 91 weeks on the New York Best Seller list. The cover shows to ivory hands holding a delicious red apple. The apple symbolized the forbidden fruit; the forbidden fruit is meant to symbolize Edward and Bella's love for each other.

The ad displays a rather pale younger looking man and woman. Their skin is flawless and they both display attractive features: perfect noses, defined jaw lines, and desirably touseled hair. The bottles that the perfume are in look sophisticated, much like Edward. The text that is used also resembles the text used in adveritsements for the Twilight series.

To look deeper into the meaning of the Vera Wang ad I will research the two main characters of Twilight. The first is Robert Pattinson (Edward); born May 13th, 1986in London, England. So far he has been in 15 major films. Such as: the Harry Potter series, The Summer House, How To Be, and Little Ashes. He has recieved nine awards and three nominations so far in his career. He is desired by women of all ages around the world. In the movie and book though the only one he desires is Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart. Kristen was born April 9th 1990 in LA. She has been in five major movies and many small films as a young actress. Her dream has always been acting but she also wants to go to college in Austalia to become a writer.

So who exactly is this ad targeting? Twilight zombies, or vampires I should say. It probably would not appeal to a girly girl, the ad lacks color variation. This is uaually linked to an older female or male target. Yet the models in the photo are not old. Did Vera Wang even know that this could relate to Twilight? There is evidence that it was not done by chance. Previous ads display a tan, more innocent looking girl. She is advertised as a princess, much different from vampire. So maybe I will also compair past Vera Wang (Vampire Fang) ads to this one and how it is so much different from the others.

I don’t know for sure what ad I’m doing yet, but this ad for Garnier Fructis products is a possibility. I got this ad out of a Seventeen magazine. (S) It is advertising shampoo and conditioner, as well as gel, hairspray, milk, and shine spray. (CD) This ad is targeted at teens and young women, so Seventeen was a good place for them to advertise. “Unleash Your Rock Star Style” is the main phrase on the ad. This ad is telling you that if you buy Garnier Fructis products, you will be as carefree and cool as a rock star. (CD-CX) Teenagers who look up to rock stars may feel as if they need this product in order to be that much closer to such a lifestyle. What guy doesn’t like a gorgeous woman who is up on stage singing and dancing? People may feel obligated to buying this product for that reason alone. They might think that if they buy this, it will make them gorgeous just like the girls in the ad. Another thing it says on the ad is “No one makes your hair stronger”. This statement is telling you that if you want strong hair, you have to buy this product. There is a redheaded woman on one page, and on the other a blonde and brunette. The blonde and brunette are dancing and smiling. There are stars on the blonde’s scarf, which is symbolic. Also, their hair is long to show off the fact that it is a hair product. One of the girl’s hair is curly and the other two girls have straight hair. I think this is showing that you can use this product on all types of hair. Someone looking through a magazine might stop to look if they see a product for hair that is just like theirs. (CX)

Did you know that some people trace the origins of ice cream to 4th century B.C.? And, the first ice cream cone to a Syrian waffle-maker in 1904? In the Nestlé Lil’ Drumstick Ad I chose to analyze, the ice cream mixed with a crisp waffle cone is overwhelmingly appealing. The name of the Drumstick ice cream treat comes from the opinion of the inventor’s wife. (S) She thought it looked like a fried chicken leg, but of course, better than a chicken leg. (CD) Also, you can’t help but put your fingers in the poke holes of the ad. It even has a cheesy, “easy user’s guide” encouraging you to do a full set of finger warm-ups in the holes. It says that the drumstick is actual size. This could affect your psychology by thinking just a small one couldn’t be so bad for you. But in reality they are right. A normal Drumstick has 290 calories, while a Lil’ Drumstick has 140 calories. (CX) There are persuading words all over the add encouraging you to give into your cravings. With a handful of flavors including: cookie dough, chocolate with chocolatey swirls, chocolate fudge brownie, and vanilla with chocolatey swirls, there is bound to be a flavor that appeals to the reader. With an annual advertising budget of 2.5 billion, Nestlé puts a lot of thought into their ads. (S) Their newest advertising strategy is using a family friendly approach, as shown on the Lil’ Drumstick ad. The ad uses a relaxed, everyday look. The words are in written out handwriting, instead of typed. It promotes having a fun snack to brighten your day.

When writing my paper I plan on including much of what Mr. Christensen has talked about in class. The audience being targeted, the purpose of the ad, the overt message, and what the subtext is trying to say. These are just a few things I will include in my paper to help explain what the ad is “selling”. Going further and getting into the carriers of actors and actresses will be very beneficial and a way to look at the larger cultural topics. The ad I have chosen is one for a new Calvin Klein fragrance, found in a 2007 Teen Vogue magazine. The ad shows a guy and girl alone together in what appears to be an alley, hallway, or a storage room. They are both young and white.(S) She is very skinny and her undergarments are exposed slightly.(CD) The guy is leaning in and holding several strands of the girl’s hair as the girl holds one end of the guy’s loosened belt straps. This ad is showing that the male is dominant over the female. It is extremely obvious that the ad is advertising more than a fragrance.(CX) The obvious message is that the fragrance will make us smell good and make us more sexually desireable. The fragrance will probably make you prettier and more confident. The opposite gender will want to rip your clothes off. Attention is kept in the ad because of the sexual scene it is portraying and it draws the readers because the place is unusual and mysterious. The product’s name CKIN2U is the tag line. There is an accompanying website, whatareyouin2.com, listed at the top left of the ad. This ad is targeting both sexes, particularly teenagers. It is a promise of sexual attraction and intimacy. I will look at the Calvin Klein website and its ads selling other items. I am going to want to see how popular Calvin Klein’s products are and how they compare to other leading brands.

The ad that I am analyzing is for the Tascam DP-008. It is a portable studio recorder and mixer.(S) The ad depicts a woman deep in thought looking off into the distance. She's holding a guitar and has the "Portastudio" at her feet. She's on a bed and the room itself is dark.(CD) She looks relaxed and comfortable because she has such a hassle free recording device.(CX) The bed is red which could mean that with this certain product you can feel more passionate about your music and write more effectively. The walls are a rich green which could symbolize a rich sound and an amazing recording quality. The woman is not exactly what today's society would call attractive with her strong nose and big puffy lips but she has the look and attitude of a rocker. And because of her rocker-ness the consumers looking through this magazine may find her attractive enough to think, "It'd be sweet to have a girlfriend like that." or from a females perspective, "I would like to be more like that." The large bold font at the top of the page reads: Unwind & Create. With the word "Create" repeated behind in a fancy cursive. This can be seen to symbolize that you will get a clear bold sound yet elegant and beautiful at the same time. Towards the bottom there is fine print that tells the consumer about how the product is hassle free and how it'll make your life simpler and much more enjoyable and calming. This makes the readers believe that if they buy this product, their hectic lives will turn around and be less stressful, because this product is so simple, small, and easy.(CD-CX)

Analyzing an ad you have to look deeper into what the ad is saying, who is in the ad, and why that person in doing the advertising instead of someone else. Does that person stop to make people look, or was it just an accident.
CD-CX-I chose to compare and contrast two different ads. Compound-One is Siren by Paris Hilton, it’s a perfume. The other ad is hair u wear by Jessica Simpson and Ken Paves. CX-They are both blonds that are supposed to be “ditzy” and “innocent” but in the Siren ad Paris is more seductive and sinful by the way she is posing. Both ads have gold in them to show power and money. S- Hilton is sitting on a rock in the middle of the ocean with orange, red, blue, black, and a little bit of green in the background. Siren is more of a “wild” or “crazy” or maybe even fun ad. S-Jessica’s ad is more of a clean ad. There is tree Jessica Simpsons to get the attention of all different sorts of girls. Because there is so many she also has different hair styles hoping to catch the attention of more than just one “type” of girl that likes that hair style. In her ad there is also a puppy to help grab your attention. The colors used in her ad are blue, green, white, and gold. On the hair u wear ad the words, “change your hair as often as you change your mind.” So it also shows that it is easy to change your hair after you have had in one way. If you change your mind you can change your hair in a matter of seconds, and not only will it change the way your hair looks, if you change your hair like Jess does you can have a quarter back, or even a singer as a boyfriend or husband, and at the same time you can look skinny and have perfect skin.

I have yet to chose my ad but I will go ahead and analyze the Jennifer Lopez deseo perfume ad for this blog. In this ad JLo's, I believe, is representing sex and that if you buy this perfume you will get anything, I mean anything, you want. [S] Above deseo it says "let desire lead you". Now that can easily be thought of as sexual and in this case it most definitely is. If you look at the beautiful Jennifer Lopez's "outfit" she is well basically only wearing a top and you can't even tell if she is wearing anything else. There is alot of skin showing and her hair is wild. [CD] Her face also seems like she wants you to "come get some." Yes, as in come get some deseo but also get some sex. The people who are targeted for this ad is really anyone. [CD-CX] It attracts the females because it's "hidden meaning" is you can let desire lead you to get whatever you want with a guy. It also attracts males because of Lopez's hot body. Even the wooden floor reminds me of a high class bedroom, with her eyes luring you in to get in her hammock with her. Notice, also for the males, that she isn't wearing a wedding ring. This lures us men even more in and it is very effective because maybe if deseo is supposed to "let desire lead you" then if we get it for a signifacant other than maybe we can even get what ever we want. [CX] Personally, I think the ad is very effective because it shows many things. It leads on multiple kinds of people to get this perfume. There are many symbols in this ad let alone all ads. In this ad the hammock and wooden floor symbolize as comfort and with Jennifer's nearly nude body, messy hair, and "come get some more" face makes it comfortably sexual. The plants or "wild" in the back telling you if you get this perfume your time using it will be wild!

Im doing an add in a Cosmo which is advertising smart water, in the add you can definityly see the sexual references. The girl in the picture has messy hair, and is kissing the smart water bottle. Its a white background and it looks as if she's not wearing any clothes, Messy hair and no clothes? Are they really trying to sell water? No. I belive there also are trying to say that if you drink this "smart water" you can become famous like the actor thats advertising.
The actor is looking straight which when looking at the article would be at the customer that bought this magazine, which draws more attention to her.

The ad I chose to analyze is a Tampax Pearl ad from Seventeen Magazine. Serena Williams is pumping her fist with excitement and, in the background, a lady that is supposed to represent Mother Nature is being pulled away by two security guards while she holds a pink present that is meant to be Mother Nature's Monthly Gift. (CD-CX) The main text reads "Game, set, match Serena." Below that the ad says, "Serena Williams isn't about to let Mother Nature's Monthly Gift ruin her game. That's why a champion like her trusts the unique LeakGuard protection of Tampax Pearl plastic." Just to the right of the text, there is a box of Tampax Pearl tampons and above it says "Outsmart Mother Nature." (CD) Because Serena Williams is well-known, I would go into depth about her career as a tennis player. (CX) It would be a condensed biography of her. (S) In this ad in particular, Serena Williams represents not being bothered by Mother Nature's Monthly Gift. Because the ad is in Seventeen Magazine, teenage girls are being targeted. I could go into detail about why this ad appeals to teenage girls. Also, it might not be a coincidence that a black woman was chosen to be the focus of this ad. (S) The makers of the ad could be attempting to appeal to different races. I could analyze even further who the ad is targeted at. I could also analyze how the ad is directed at women in sports. Mother Nature is being represented by a woman in a green dress. I could analyze why she is supposed to be Mother Nature. The box she is holding is representing Mother Nature's Monthly Gift and I could analyze why that is appropriate. (CD)

I am writing about a Wrangler jean ad staring Brett Favre. He is sitting on the tailgate of a red pickup truck with his dog nest to him in the middle of a grassy field. At the bottom of the page the ad reads "you can count on Wrangler. comfort. quality. value." Then just under those words are four pairs of Wangler blue jeans.
In this add I will explain why Brett Favre was chosen instead of some bum off the street.
Brett Lorenzo Favre was born October 10, 1969 in Gulfport, Mississippi. He is an American football quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. He was the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers between 1992 and 2007, and for the New York Jets in 2008. Favre started at the quarterback position for the University of Southern Mississippi for four years before being selected in the second round of the 1991 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. After one season with the Falcons, Favre was traded to the Green Bay Packers on February 10, 1992, for the 19th pick in the 1992 NFL Draft. He became the Packers' starting quarterback in the fourth game of the 1992 season, starting every game from then until his retirement in 2008. In 2008, Favre came out of retirement, was traded to the New York Jets, and continued his consecutive start streak. On February 11, 2009, Favre told the New York Jets that he was again retiring. He came out of retirement for the second time and signed with the Minnesota Vikings on August 18, 2009. Favre is the only player to win the AP Most Valuable Player three consecutive times (1995–97). He led the Packers to seven division championships (1995, 1996, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2007), four NFC Championship Games (1995, 1996, 1997, and 2007), winning two (1996 and 1997), and two Super Bowl appearances, winning one (Super Bowl XXXI). He holds many NFL records including: most career touchdown passes, most career passing yards, most career pass completions, most career pass attempts, most career interceptions thrown, most consecutive starts, and most career victories as a starting quarterback.
These are some great reasons the the people from Wangler chose to use Brett in there ad. It shows to people that Brett who is a hard working talented person can be trusted in helping you pick out the best pair of jeans.
This ad is targeting anyone who is wanting to buy a pair of blue jeans. I believe that this ad is targeting a younger generation though and not the elderly.
I believe that this ad could also be trying to sell a false sense of relaxation and freedom that comes with the jeans because Brett is relaxing with his dog not in a busy street in the middle of New York but in a quite grassy place where the air is clean and you can feel free of the stress of every day life.
(S) Brett Favre plays in the NFL.
(CD) Brett throws a ball and other people catch it.
(CX) There is the color blue in the jeans which could make the reader feel relaxed.
(CD-CX) Brett makes money when he models for Wrangler jeans and plays football.

The ad I chose to describe is called A Symphony of Scents. They consist of different types of perfumes and colognes that can blend in with music. I like this ad. It is musical and in a way fancy and smart. It shows that you can be what you want in music, you don't have to be just one thing. The ad is sponsered by Dillard's also known as The Style of Your Life. The shape of the bottles are not musical but the colors are light, dark, small, and bold; just like in music. It shows the contrast of different pieces, instruments, and names. If I were to choose this article for my paper I would specify the instruments used, the names and styles of the bottles, and the designer of the perfume/cologne. For instance the flute has three perfumes above it that are all light colored and pretty; almost sweet. The first bottle in called Daisy by Marc Jacobs. The color is light yellow and the bottle has flowers on it, therefore making it simpy and girly. The second perfume is lite pink and the top of the bottle is shaped like a diamond, shiney, and big.The fragrance is called Versace and Bright Crystal. The third frragrance is a light greenish. The bottle is square and almost plain. It is as if it is just there to show off the simplicity of it.

The ad I chose to analyze is a Nikon COOLPIX camera advertisement (S). The biggest catch is Ashton Kutcher in it laughing and holding the camera. It shows he is having a good time and happy (CD). He's sitting at a round table with a coffee cup like he is relaxing having a good time. The colors all coordinate with different blues and greys and the camera is a darker plumb color to stand out more (CD). Ashton Kutcher is known for being in the camera commercials and ads (S). He is a well known icon and is very good looking and attracts the people that read the magazine or watch the commercials. The fact that he looks like he is having such a good time is not only sexy but shows good advertiseing and the camera makes him laugh and he can have fun with it (CD-CX). Above the camera and next to him opposite of the way he is leaning it says : The new Nikon COOLPIX S550, the smallest camer of its kind. I think the angle of the picture in the magazine the camera size compared to the mid shot of his body and the size of his hand makes the camera look smaller in size. This advertisement is very catchy but subtle and not to flashy (CD). Without Ashton the ad would be plain and boring. I think he adds a lot to the ad and that catches peoples eyes.

I plan to discuss the realistic looks of my ad compared to the not as great looking graphics of the actual game. The advertising company make these games look like they have the best graphics possible when the game in reality doesn't. I am also going to be talking about how violence in video games continues to climb, along with the sales. While the graphic capability of video games rises so does the lust for blood in gamers. They want a reward for their sucessful hit or kill, and the better looking they can make it the more hype the game will get, and the more hype it gets the more sales it will have and the more money the company will make. So it would seem that more blood equals more money, and the companies are really playing up to this idea. Sales of Video games continue to rise with each generation of consoles that come out. People dictate what system they will buy based on the graphics it is capable of and the number of games for the console. Most of the games out contain blood in some way, shape, or form. The video games that sell the most ,lately, have had blood in them. I will also discuss the amount of time people spend on a video game console and the connections between that and other issues society is concerned about, such as obecity in the young of our nation.

In the ad i chose there is a man and a woman of course, the man is holding a bottle of sky vodka with a glass near his genitals. The man is dressed in a black and white suite and tie and is lieing next to a pool holding the bottle near the womans breast region. The woman is wet from head to toe lieing on a floating bed in the pool next to the man holding the glass which the vodka is being pored into rite next to her left boob. What i plan to desipher in this ad is how vodka will give you hot women, and that you need to be manly enough to handle not only the woman but the drink itself. This drink if more of a wealtier type of drink so hence the man in the suite line next to the soaked girl in a see through dress. Also I will discuss the colors chosen shuch as teh orange floating bed and the crystal blue water and what it represents. The two glasses for which the vodka is being poured into are in relivent places one in the mans crotch and the other on the girls left boob in which I think and most everyone else would be that if you drink this your going get sex in a pool.

I am analyzing a Pontiac G8 GT ad(S). This ad comes from the SI swimsuit edition in the winter of 2008. At first its a normal ad showing off a luxorious sports car. But as you open it further (like you do with posters that are put in magazines) you see the Pontiac on a sandy white beach, with rock structures on the edges of the ad(CD). Also, just to the left of the car, there are 8 beautiful women all posing flirtatiously. After doing some research, I discovered that the Pontiac G8 GT was produced by Holden, which is the Australian General Motors subsidiary. I was shocked when I came across this information and immediately looked up a picture of an Australian beach on google which portrayed some of the same characteristics as the beach in my ad(CD). Not only is the beach representing where this car came from, but it fits in perfectly with the magazine its put in(CX). This magazine is filled with pretty women on beaches, some actually being in Australia.

One more thought I have. the makers of Pontiac are showing this new car (at the time) on this Australian beach and implying that it will be "immagrating" to the United States, like many foreigners do.(CDCX)

The ad I chose is a cologne ad. In this ad, Tim McGraw is advertising this product, which is called 'McGraw Southern Blend'. This ad shows a sexual side because of his open shirt and the sun shining on his eyes. Also, McGraw is looking into the camera from a sideways glance, in a seductive way. Tim McGraw's legs are spread apart, and the bottle of cologne is placed right in the center of his legs (CD). Also, his body is facing towards the cologne (S). Tim McGraw is obviously known for his country music, and he is shown wearing a fancy western outfit, including an expensive looking cowboy hat (CD). McGraw represents the ideal country artist for all other inspiring artists and devoted fans. I believe this ad is appealing more to women for a few reasons. First, Tim McGraw is obviously found more attractive by women rather than men. Another reason for the attraction by women is because this ad is found in a Cosmopolitan, which is a woman's magazine (CX). Tim McGraw's left hand is completely covered by the cologne bottle, insinuating that he is a single man, when in reality, he is married to a beautiful woman, Faith Hill (CD_CX). On the other hand, it also looks like he is holding the bottle, as if he is trying to push you to take it. The background of this ad is a countryside setting of tall, wild grass (S). I think they have this background in order to place a spotlight onto McGraw and the cologne. McGraw's jeans are a very dark shade which make the bottom half of this ad incredibly dark and mysterious. I find that this is also a sexual interpretation of this ad. The words in this ad include 'a premium, new cologne' (S). I think the word 'premium' is trying to propose that it is the best option for a cologne that anyone could buy. (CX)

I looked at about five ads for alcholic beverages and I think that the people who make some of the most entertaining and very thought out. In these ads they don't sell the beer or liquor they are advertising the good times that come along with them. And what guy doesn't dream of attractive models on that seem to have the perfect tan and with that the perfect hair. Not to add the clothes that comlement the models, well partial clothes that are wearing if any at all. All of these ads are portraying any man's fanasty hanging with the buddies in the pool hall or before a big game tailgaiting and of course surrounded by beautiful women. I found these ads in what I would call a mens magizine: sports illistrated, outdoors, hot rod, and guns and ammo. Not saying that only men read these because I personally read hunting magazines which are written mainly from a man's viewpoint to other men. You arn't going to find a budwiser ad with some woman half clothed in magazines such as redbook, womens health and home and garden. Another example is that the most alchohol sales during the year is the super bowl so they are very creative to get their name out there any time possible during the game. The field is covered with advertisments that many people may not even know they are looking at. So all in all the people behind the lines of the alchohol advertisment have very creative ways to get their name out in the world any way they can.

one ad i am considering analyzing in my paper is a gatorade ad with the infamous serena williams in it. In the ad she is clenching her fist with the thrill of winning her third wimbledon title running through her body. A naive person who would just glance at the ad would say hey its just a simple sports ad saying that if you drink our drink you can become a superstar athlete. When we put on our critical thinking lenses we can analyze the ad on a much more sophisticated and intelligent level. When i put on my marxist lense and examine the ad i see one thing that jumps at me like a spring she is black!!! serena williams is black! what is this telling us? is this telling us that not only does gatorade make great athletes but it can also help minorities break barriers set by whites? winning three wimbledons itselfs is something to hang your hat,and maybe your whole outfit.. but for a black woman to do it? must be the gatorade..thats what they want us to think. When i put my feminist lense on i see that gatorade helps women become more larger than life figures like their male counterpart, typically ads promoting sports and sports product are endorsed by male superstars, but in this ad it is a girl, maybe if you drink gatorade you can be considered equal with males (for all the females)? The last lense i chose to use was my freudian lense when i check out the ad with this other set of eyes i realize that there might just be a hidden sexual message in there by gatorade promoting its product for women the ad chooses to use serena williams who dominates the tennis world, tennis is known for using balls and rackets which are pretty symbolic for male private parts.

The Ad i chose to analyze is a Shoe ad by Lugz shoes. Lugz makes shoes for men, women, children as well as work boots for men. The ad that i am analyzing comes from the automotive magazine Import Tuner. The style of the shoes are closely related to "skater shoes" with wide flat bottoms and and a low top. In the add are three men with large muscles standing in the middle of a street in a back street urban setting. Two of the men are standing in the background, one of which stands with his fists raised and feet spread defensively for a fight. The other standing man is standing on one foot kicking into the air and soundlessly screaming, a pose that convieniently shows readers the design of the bottom of the shoe as well as make them think that wearing this shoe makes you seem more agressive and wild. Traits that are obviously supported in this ad. Sitting in the center of the screan is the third man who is clearly the center of this add. He is sitting in the direct center of the street on two wooden crates with one foot propped up on the crate in a cool relaxed look so that the veiwer can see the designs on the side of the shoe and can envision themselves looking as cool and relaxed as the buff guy wearing the shoes if they were wearing them. The goal of the add is to attract people that want to be both be cool, relaxed, and confident but also strong and prepared for any challenge underneath the cool cover. Which is why the more aggressive men are in the back ground. Tying the three men who all embody different traits that most men want to have in themselves (defensive, relaxed/confident, offensive/prepared) are the shoes all Lugz Sneakers.

For my paper I am using a Dolce and Gabbana ad. In this ad it is showing women empowerment over the naked primate men. Behind the men, are two rocks, these also make me think of the primate theme. The ad is showing how much fashion and women have evolutionarily changed. (Compound) The men are bowing to the righteous women before them. (Simple) I believe that the men are naked for more than one reason. I believe it is trying to make the dresses more prominent. It is telling the viewers’ self consciously that if you where these outrageously priced outfits you will have men bow to you and be ready to get completely naked. (Compound-Complex) The women in this ad are all gorgeous and slim. They have their hair tied back showing their seductive features as well as to show that they are serious. Pony-tails normally represent hard workers, or people on a mission. All of these women are Caucasian, and lengthy. They all have a form of the ‘Kill Bill’ stare. These facial expressions are saying, if you step out of line, SLAVE, you will no longer be pleased (sexually). It’s proven that some men like the dominatrix type females. They enjoy it when other people (especially women) take control. The women to the far right is holding some kind of whip or beating device, which further indicates that they are slave like men. These people are on a mission to show you how beautiful you can be in this product, how powerful you can be yourself. (Complex) The backdrop of this shoot is surrounded by these weird dotted walls that look extremely close to mattress, coincidence? I think not! I plan on using the background of the company, how it was founded, and how much an average item costs.

I am analyzing a Kool cigarettes ad. In the ad their is a young group sitting around having a cup of coffee and smoking some kool cigaretess. The group is sitting around a table having fun not knowing they are inhaling cancer sticks that will someday make them look like they are 60 when they are really 40 and create major health problems. It is a proven fact that cigs will reduce your life expectancy. So why would anyone smoke? To be cool or feel like being cool. Kool wants to make cigarettes look harmless and wants to appeal to the youth. They want to target young adults to smoke so they will be hooked on their product for the rest of their lives.

The ad I chose is a Maybelline mascara ad in People magazine. It has an extremely large eye in the right corner of the page and also has a Jessica Biel look alike wearing large pink boxing gloves. In front of her is a cute little blonde boy with large green boxing gloves. In the upper right corner you see the product itself which is smaller than the other pictures on the page. The ad is bright and colorful and the bristles on the mascara brush are identical colors to those of the boxing gloves. Above the mascara brush is a pink bubble that says “New” in bold letters. I believe this shows the “power” of the mascara. The girls eyes also pop to show what they would be if you were to use Maybelline’s mascara product. The ad also states “great big brush great big live-it-up lashes live big spend small.” At the bottom of the ad in very small print it identifies the Jessica look alike to be Christy. The small print states “Christy is wearing New Great Lash Big Mascara in Very Black.” The bottom also says “Maybelline New York.” New York is a big fashion city but I doubt that has anything to do to make people want to buy Maybelline right? It also has the famous “Maybe she’s born with it. Maybe it’s Maybelline”
I would go into the product sales for Maybelline and their makeup and mascara sales and the product itself. I would also go into the sales of people magazine and the target audience for people magazine. I may also want to go into Jessica Biel’s career and life which would explain the importance of the look alike. I also would look up the effects of certain statements and how they affect the self esteem of the audience they are targeting such as maybe she’s born with it. Maybe it’s Maybelline. I also would possibly look into what people think about New York and how that affects women and they’re urge to buy something.

The ad I chose was for DKNY fragrance for woman. (s) The background sort of like a forest scene.(cx) This certain ad takes place in the summer time with the color scheme behind the girl eating an apple.(cd) The woman is very attractive and while eating the apple with one finger up by her lip. Her clothing also sends out a message since her sweater is half off her shoulders, plus she is showing a lot of skin in the picture. Also her skin tone matches her sweater, besides that her hair matches to since everything is brown with a bronze skin tone.(cd-cx) Her facial expression is kind of saying that she is very serious and means business while she is wearing this fragrance and if you wear it you will automatically be just like her. So is this ad trying to say if you wear this fragrance you can attract anyone you want to where ever you are? In the middle of the ad is says “BE DELICIOUS the fragrance for woman.” It seems like they are saying this because it relates back to the attractive woman behind the writing. Since she is eating an apple and is looking sexy, that any girl will be sexy when they wear it no matter what you look like. I kind of see it as not being real because it may not work on some women that use the fragrance. Maybe it might work for others but if it doesn’t it could possibly bring down womans self-esteem. Another thing that I have noticed in the ad is down at the bottom there are green apples. On these apples there is water running down the apples. Could this possibly sending out a message about the fragrance? One apple is different out of all of them, it is reflecting tall buildings in the background. There is also a label that says DKNY BE DELICIOUS and underneath it it has 100% Pure New York.

I plan to ananlyze a energizer battary ad. It sounds like it would be too general of an ad, but it focuses on women. There are not many pictures in the ad, but the words are the pictures. In swirling pink text it describes how these battaries will give your camera such life and quality that only the best, most perfect looking men will want to be with you because the camera makes you look so good yourself. What girl doesnt want to be with the best looking guy? Especially since the media pushes the "importance" of it. I also plan to analyze the stress the ad puts on physical beauty. The batteries make your camera last longer and give it a better quality to make you look better. As if a battery will just do it for you. There is too much of an emphasis on a certain standard for beauty these days. Which also has to do with getting the perfect guy. In essence what the ad would have you believe is that only the most beautiful girls are going to get the good looking guy. Its true that no one is going to go out and take pictures of the most hideous thing that they can find, but who determines beauty? My friends and I have a very different view on what is attractive in a guy, so who's standard do we go by? Even without pictures or celebrity endoursment, there is so much to be discussed in this simple Energizer ad. It hits alot of the core areas that draw people to a product and I think it deserves a deeper look.

The ad I chose was from Sports Illustrated (S). The ad was for Svedka vodka and the ad is provocative (CD). The ad's message is pretty noticeable unless you were reading the magazine quickly (CX). There's a robot standing in the middle of the ad and looking out into the distance with a drink in hand. Although she looks like she's innocent, she really is looking for a good time and she might act in a provocative manner (CD-CX). This ad is selling more than just the drink itself. The ad is implying having a good time as well as having sex. Most alcoholic ads have the reminder to drink responsibly. This ad has, "play responsibly". Everything about the robot is sexual. She has big boobs, sexy legs, eye catching curves, and heels on. The woman robot is also standing in a wide stance as if she is ready for sex looking at the ad with Fruedian lenses. There is also a V shape over her private area. Maybe implying that she is a virgin? The ad is in a men's magazine. Hence, the ad has to be manly right? Well it is in this way. The robot is standing on the 50 yard line of a football field. Is there any sport that's any manlier? In my opinion, I don't think so. The saying across the ad says, "The vodka of champions". I think that implies that only successful people that win or dominate their profession are allowed to drink this vodka. But what if dominating a woman "robot" is a part of being a "champion". After all, a drunk girl is pretty much a robot because at that point some don't have control over what they do and they follow other people's actions without thinking about what they are doing. So the champions take advantage of the opportunity and dominate. This ad makes women look like tools instead of actual beings because of the implications set forth. Even though the ad is promoting the drink for the most part, it also promotes the festive attitude as well.

I chose an ad for Caress Glowing Touch body wash. (S) In the ad there is a naked woman and it looks like shes in a shower of gold. (CD) Even though she looks like shes in the shower, her hair is dry and perfectly styled. (CX) The woman is standing with her back towards you and is peeking over her shoulder. She is looking straight at you so as you're flipping through the pages she catches her eye. The woman's arm is wrapped around her body and her hand is placed right above her butt. She is also wearing a flashy, gold ring on her finger. Her skin is golden and flawless. On the side of the ad the bottle of body wash is shown with a silloute of a woman standing on it in the shower. This woman also has a flawless body. The bottle of body wash is gold in color and looks like its glowing. Right below the bottle, the words "Your skin is about to become the ultimate fashion statement." This is saying that if you use this you are going to be a fashion statement because you have the best skin. The words Caress Glowing Touch SkinWear Collection is placed right across the womans back right where her breasts are. She is standing in front of a black background so her golden skin stands out and also catches your eye. The woman is very attractive and has a flawless body. This ad targets women that want to look like this woman does. I found this ad in a Cosmopolitan which many teens and women read. This ad is saying that if you use this body wash, you will be beautiful, sexy, and have a golden tan like this woman does. Women who see this ad think that if you use this body wash, men will look at you and think you're beautiful and attractive like this woman is.

The ad I chose to write about is a Ford F-150 advertisement show-classing the tailgate step on the new pick-up trucks. In this ad, the only objects in color are the truck, a tractor, and the Ford emblem. Other than those objects, the rest of the ad is in blacks, whites, and grays. Besides talking about the Ford trucks of today, I could talk about the advancements they have made with their trucks over the years. Also, the history of the tractor in the ad is a possible subject. In conjunction with the history of Ford, talking about how the emblem and the slogan of Ford has changed over the years to compete with other companies would be an interesting topic. Some of the history I would use for the truck would be how it evolved over the years. In the early years, it was a rough outline of what was to come for the newly emerging pick-up truck (S). In 1948, when the truck first debuted, it was called an F-1, with two doors and manual transmission (CX). Not until 1965 were there any major changes to the truck; at this time, the 4- door crew cab was introduced, along with the “Ranger” series and a “camper special” which was designed heavier for hauling the increasingly popular campers (CD-CX). From 1967- 1972, a few other options were available to customers, including a contractors special, farm and ranch special, and heavy- duty special. During the 1980’s, the Ford F- series became what it is today, with options available off of the base unit. For the latest models, Ford has gone to offering a fuel-efficient model that not only runs on gasoline, but also on flex fuels, for the conservationists of the world (CD). From the late 1940’s to the late 2000’s, Ford has been a leader in driver satisfaction and is always looking for another way to accommodate the consumer.

“Let desire lead you…” This phrase says exactly what JLo wants you to do; desire her, the product, and her life. All of this can be accomplished by wearing her perfume right? The fact that Jennifer is Latino plays a huge role in the name of the perfume itself; Deseo. “I’m still Jenny from the block,“ is raking up the street credibility with this fragrance. And he Spanish name has the classic old Hollywood romance with Zorro scenario occurring. Also this Spanish name could be JLo trying to reach out to her fellow Latino idolizes back home. Her signature being present tells us that she personally approves of the scent, and to show us that if it is good enough for Jlo, it is well past good enough for us to wear and buy for $62 an ounce. The bottle itself looks somewhat like a diamond making it more desirable. Who doesn’t want diamonds? Research has also shown that blue has an unconscious calming effect on most people. If this were packaged in a magenta bottle it would appeal to the more bubbly, dangerous, promiscuous type. Assuming this ad came from a Cosmopolitan magazine, it is targeting young adults to middle aged women who would typically choose to be classy; no promiscuous. If you have heard of Jlo’s other signature fragrance it’s called Glow. Her sexiness radiates off of her “glow” of a tan (which every woman craves). She is still selling her other product by being in this advertisement! And yes, Jennifer Lopez is always famous for her lady lump/s. The hammock covers her in just the right places, while revealing all the right places at the same time. It is also specifically highlighting her bum. She gives us a head on come and get me stare that entices us toward her. Her perfectly tossled hair shows a bit of imperfection, but still took 12 stylists to complete and an entire can of hair spray. The jungle atmosphere created in the background gives the sense of wildness and eroticism. What woman would reject being ravished in a jungle bungalow? The chandelier presents a touch of elegance in this wild yet somewhat tamed setting. It also promotes this is how extravagant JLo as well as yourself can live if you simply buy the fragrance.

Simple: The jungle atmosphere created in the background gives the sense of wildness and eroticism. . It is also specifically highlighting her bum.

Compound: Her signature being present tells us that she personally approves of the scent, and to show us that if it is good enough for Jlo, it is well past good enough for us to wear and buy for $62 an ounce. Her perfectly tossled hair shows a bit of imperfection, but still took 12 stylists to complete and an entire can of hair spray.

Complex: The hammock covers her in just the right places, while revealing all the right places at the same time.

Compound complex: Assuming this ad came from a Cosmopolitan magazine, it is targeting young adults to middle aged women who would typically choose to be classy; no promiscuous.

For my essay i will be evaluating the perfum add, named prada. In this add the main direct is on a pair of blonde statuesque triplets. In the add they made them look very lanky, by bringing the cammra angle down and looking up at them, which sets the sceen as a 3 powerful, dominant woman. Also they all have a seduced gaze from every women. In most men's fantisy usally involves twins, triplets or something along the lines of that. When a guy looks at this add they will be promptly drawned to the three triplets ready to pounce on eachother. Which this being a top fantisy for men wouln't they go out and acquire this product for thier girlfirend, or wife, to maybe make them apart of his fantisy. Or perhaps not apart but it will posably give him a key to unlock a dream world, which all men long for. Moving further into this add everything is painted in gold. Thier skin, blouse, and the walls. Doesen't gold=money? And money=happienes? For most americans money does equal happienes, thus by buying this perfume you will acquire that happienes, which also all women and men long for.

The ad I chose was a Nike ad. The ad is about Nike's new line of shoe called "Nike Pro Combat". Nike Pro Combat is a lightweight, breathable padding over the shoe. It is designed to provide protection to the foot for athletes without restricting flexibility. In this ad Nike used last NFL's season's rushing leader Adrian Peterson. Nike was able to put this padding look that is on the shoe over Adrian's body. The ad is supposed to show a transformation in their athletic ablility if they wear this shoe. In the ad Adrian is wearing a cut-off, football pants, and the Nike Pro Combat shoes. The color scheme for the add is grey-scale except for the single Nike symbol on the shoe to make it stand out. The line in the ad is "meet Adrian's alter ego", this is saying that not only will his/your athletic ablility change, but his/your whole body will become one with the shoe to make you the ultimate machine. They chose Adrian Peterson for this ad because he was the leader in rushing yards last season in the NFL. Nike wants to get inside your head and make you think that if you buy these shoes that you will become great like Adrian Peterson. I beleive that Nike is targeting everybody who wears their shoes, and they are also targeting football fans/vikings fans/Adrian Peterson fans/young teens who idolise Adrian Peterson, so they are able to target four large groups of people all at the same time. Nike made this ad right before the NFL(2009) season started, right after Adrians all-star year. The setting of the ad is Peterson sitting on a bench in the locker room, it seems as though it is taking place right after a game, like he is cooling down.

The ad I choose is from Seventeen Magazine. (S) So...? Kiss me is the name of the perfume that is being advertised. (S) In the ad, there is a black shadow of a rather thin woman blowing a kiss. (CD) This woman has long hair. Is it proven that women with long hair are more attractive to guys? Is the ad saying you have to have long hair and a skinny body to wear this perfume? Telling young teens who read the magazine to conform. The shadow of a women in the magazine is surrouded by at least 20 guys; all of which are looking directly at her. These men are also attractive, implying that wearing this perfume you will not only get good-looking guys to look at you, but also get them to kiss you as well. The whole ad is pink, but the black shadow woman figure in the center. (CD) Pink and red show passion, love, and even lust. There are two shapes of bottles on this ad; one is tall and thin and one is short and cute. (CD) This is a positive message to young teens, saying you don't have to be all the same shape, although the tall and thin bottle is larger than the other one meaning it is superior to the short bottle. (CX) Lastly, the slogan is at the bottom of the ad in black and white saying Fragrance with Attitude. Does a scent really make you more confident, feel better about yourself, put a little skip in your step? The ad answers yes to all of these questions. Young teens will be more confident since they are wearing So...? Kiss me perfume. (CX) Attractive men staring right at you is looked at as a positive in this ad, because of the angelic glow around the shadowed woman figure. (CD-CX) The lifestyles of young teen girls is another topic to deeper anaylize as well.

In the ad I chose more than the visual will be discussed. Although the image is generally what gets your attention and seems like the most important, there is a lot more to analyze than one might think. I chose to analyze a pair of Jordache ads one being from the September 1986 issue of Seventeen Magazine and the other ad coming from the November of 2007 issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine. Jordache is a jean company but these ads may make you think otherwise. In the 2007 advertisement, yes she is wearing long skinny jeans and knee high high-heeled boots, but that is ALL she is wearing! No shirt for her, just her long blonde hair covering the bare essentials! You can also see that she is definitely not shy about being so exposed. I strongly believe if her hair was ANY shorter the advertisement would not be acceptable, even for a Cosmopolitan Magazine, which has some ‘interesting’ topics to say the least. Oh and she holds a riding crop just below her butt for a little more emphasize on the jeans…right? Or is it to show dominance and have a little more sexual allure? Maybe the Jordache advertisers are hitting two birds with one stone. Going back in time about 21 years to the other Jordache advertisement, it is easy to see that this advertisement seemed to also push the envelope. The lovely 80s couple is content just walking through a random field with the guys reaching forward into the girls pockets and kissing her neck as she looks off blissfully into space. However they are both completely covered! Which would be a shocker for now-a-days. This brings me to another strong point. When analyzing ads with a 21 year difference using a Marxist lens is critical. Thinking about the differences between what WAS acceptable and what IS acceptable. These things change and it is blatantly seen in these two ads. Instead of looking for major differences another thing to look for is similarities. One example is both of these ads show a common theme of female dominance.

Simple
Incense smells delicious.
I love spaghetti.

Compound
Kathy did the dishes so I could cook dishes.
Jane wanted to go to Applebees and Erika wanted eat at Pizza Ranch.

Complex
I wish Dennis’s back felt better because it looks painful 
When I compete at my first meet this year I will do my best.

CD-CX
I used to have a black bunny named Charlie and when the weather was nice, my sister and I would take him for a walk.
My coach Dennis collects playing cards, but he doesn’t collect hockey cards because he doesn’t watch hockey.

The ad i have choesen to write about is a cologne ad. The type of fragrence is called Davidoff Cool Water.(S) The ad displays their name in such a fancy font that it took me a while to even read the name. Im assuming they do this to try to show how "fancy" or "upper-class" this fragrence is.(CD) Also, they may do this so you spend more time studying the ad then you come to realize. They portray the fancy elite status to make people feel that if they invest in this product it will definitely make them upper-class or wealthy. Also this ad is definitely using a handsome man to sell their product.(S) The majority of this ad is an action picutre of a man that is built, tan, young, and handsome, he is dramatically lungeing out of the ocean. Also the bottle of the product is located on the bottom right hand side of the page which is the last thing the reader sees as he turns the page. This ad was published in Sports Illustrated, which is a key location for the customers they are seeking. This is a man fragrence for most ages, which is the ideal type of audience for this magazine. I believe this ad is trying to tell the reader that:
1) If you buy this product you Too can become vary handsome, tan, and built.
2) This product is soo good that these upper class good looking men will spend their money on it.

I am analyzing a McDonald's ad (S). First of all, there is a man of a Hispanic background in the lower left-hand corner of the ad (S). He has his hand cupped to the side of his mouth, signaling that he is letting the targeted viewer in on a "little secret". He has a blatant mustache ("mexi-stache") or (dirty sanchez")and long, curly black hair to indicate his ethic background. Ever since I can remember, McDonald's has been targeting minority groups, mainly African-Americans and Mexican-Americans. (A common racial stereotype is that minorities are poor or less privileged than Caucasians.) Additionally, McDonald's serves satisfying food (even if it's not the most nutritious) at an extremely affordable cost (S). Therefore, my reasoning would lead me to believe that McDonald's is continually targeting this specific audience because [McDonald's] feels that Blacks/Mexicans are "drawn" more to cheap, fast food over a fancy, expensive, fine-dining restaurant (CD-CX). It appeals to them (S).

Anyways, this Hispanic man, or "Paul" as the ad suggests, is explaining to the viewer all of the many reasons why one should buy McDonald's and that the Dollar Menu is a "safe bet". I will quote Paul when he states, "It keeps my yin balanced with my yang. So to speak." It seems that this ad is classifying each and every one of us as a risk taker, a bad ass, a daredevil, and that McDonald's will BALANCE out our lives for us. All we need to do is eat from the dollar menu and our lives will be in perfect moderation; we will be at peace within ourselves. I will support this with another quote from Paul, "So I like a safe bet sometimes to, ya know, keep my balance. As luck would have it, there's the Dollar Menu." AM I RIGHT? (S) What would we ever do if the dollar menu disappeared? Thank heavens there is a dollar menu to keep us properly functioning! "As luck would have it, there's the Dollar Menu." I am glad that Dollar Menu has given us salvation from our wretched, unbalanced, improper lives (CD).

Additionally, there is a large picture of a McChicken sandwich staring the targeted viewer in the face, alongside a frosty beverage and a green, luscious salad. I am overjoyed that McDonald's decided to conveniently place a salad in this ad. To make McDonald's seem like less of the artery-clogging assembly line that it is? No doubt. The McChicken, beverage, and salad are all flawless (anyone who has ever eaten at McDonald's knows that this is not the case). A square, wooden plate (or oven rack) is cleverly placed underneath the McChicken (S). My guess would be that McDonald's is trying to sell their food off as, "homemade" or "just taken out of the oven" appearance, which is a juxtaposition to what their food really is.

This ad is such a joke. I mean, seriously. If I went to McDonald's tomorrow I would receive my McChicken in a wrapper with the lettuce and the mayonnaise in one place and the actual sandwich in the other. It's like a portable hurricane in a wrapper (S). Is it coincidence that McDonald's chose to advertise their McChicken instead of their Big Mac, or their Double Quarter Pounder? I think not. McDonald's has been getting drilled by angry consumers for years about how unhealthy their products are. They know this. I know this. Everyone with an appetite knows this.

I'm betting that McDonald's chose the McChicken to be their, "happy medium" ad (CX). Not too light, not too heavy. Somewhat similar to the recent Bud Light commercial. Most likely trying to attract the women and/or the famiily, instead of the power-hungry men. Before I end, let me state that I like McDonald's as much as the next person, yet I couldn't contain myself when it came to tearing into this ad. There was merely an overwhelming amount of fabrications in this ad that I simply had to blog about them (CX).

Two of the advertisements for Estee Lauder’s Sensuous are what I chose to be my topic for my advertisement analysis paper. Both advertisements have a woman, wearing a man’s white dress shirt that is unbuttoned all the way down and black underwear, as the main focus on the page. I will write about the meanings of the colors on the ads. For example the black underwear is symbolic of power and sex. These two meanings of the color black make me think of a female black widow spider. The black widow spider is very active at night, which is when it does most of it’s mating. The female spider will have sex with a male and then kill it, meaning the female is more powerful than the male. In my paper I will write more about how the women wearing Sensuous and the female black widow are alike. Another example is how the white shirts symbolize perfection, so the creators of these ads wanted to make women think that wearing this fragrance would make them flawless and therefore more desirable, since men, obviously, will not settle for anything but perfection. This is an ideal that society has tricked women into believing, because of only using models who are super skinny and astonishingly beautiful and then even perfecting them by using photo editing to make them even better. I will go into more detail about how the use of “flawless” models can make women feel inferior and occasionally create depression and eating disorders.
“Every woman wears it her way,” is the statement on the bottom of the advertisement, but in each of the four ads for the Sensuous campaign the women are wearing the same white shirt and the same black panties. I will bring up how the women in the ad are dressed alike and have the same vacant expression on their faces, as though they are not thinking anything or nothing is going on inside their heads.

Right now I'm thinking of deciphering a PacSun ad. (Simple) The ad shows a teenage girl on a sunny day standing on a vibrantly colored beach. She's bent over and smiling at the camera, posing her short shorts and tight skirt. She's pretty good looking. Of course she is; would PacSun hire a "regular looking" or even ugly (to most's standards) girl for their ad? (Simple) It's unlikely. Clothing stores choose great looking models and place them in front of absolutely amazing settings to give you that "oh my god that's awesome" feel. It especially works for the people who don't live around these settings. Sights like these aren't seen often to them, so subconsiously they think that by wearing the clothes in the ad, it will be possible to apply some of that pictures beauty to themselves. A picture of a girl like this can also attract the men. Once they see a girl bending over in this way, well, we all know what us guys are thinking. In the deeper parts of the brain however, the sex only triggers us to have a need to buy these clothes and get these girls. Also, all types of people from all social classes are attracted to ads like this. The initial response from any man is "Whoah yeah thats sweet" right before the brain sends the message to the muscles in the face that say "Look at those prep A******s". Any way we look at it, these ads are attracted to us, even if it is only in the subconscious.

I'm planning on doing my paper on a NFL ad.(S) The ad is promoting Sunday Night Football on NBC. One may think that it would be physically impossible to write a five page paper about football but the way the ad is portrayed, but I think otherwise.(CX) The ad has the opening Sunday night game in the center, Bears vs. Packers.(S) The Bears player they have chosen is Adrian Peterson. I believe it they think it will attract more attention since they think people will think of Minnesota's AP. Men like to watch these brutes on the football field as they try to go for the ultimate goal, a super bowl ring.(CD) This is indeed one of the oldest and best rivalries in all of sports. Also at the top of the ad it has Ben Rothlesberger holding the Vince Lambardi Trophy up after winning the super bowl. Everything in this ad looks like its in a battle scene. Big Ben holding up the trophy to show past dominace in past wars, a packers player taking down a bears runner during war, and stadium lights in the background like a colliseum. Even the NFL logo is shaped like a war emblem or sheild. The Sunday Night Football logo looks kinda pointy like an arrow head. With all these battle-like references, the logo for NBC is a rainbow peacock. They have added some shadow to the peacock to try to make it look like its been through a battle itself but lets not get carried away, its a peacock. At a second glance, the ad is deffinitely something to think twice about.

For my ad about Grape Nuts I will write about whom this ad targets, the sexual innuendo in the ad, the sales of the product and how the product makes your mind think that this product will make you better in multiple ways. The ad has a man on a boat in the middle of no where, most likely retired, living a long and healthy life without the worries of the real world. He's pulling in a monster fish with the pole coming right out of his crotch. The pole is facing upward with a bend to it and is extremely large. Is this ad saying that you will become bigger in the special area if you eat Grape Nuts for breakfast to start of your day? Or is the ad saying that if you eat Grape Nuts you can live a long and happy life without any worries that the rest of the world deals with and be out on a boat or anywhere that the real world does not actually affect you? Maybe the fishing rod is not about a phallic symbol, maybe it is just there in order to show what great strength this older, retired male has gained by eating Grape Nuts. I will also add a paragraph about gender roles because at the bottom of the ad it talks about where to get fishing tips at TheGuysManual.com. Why is it only the guy’s manual I know plenty of women who fish. Maybe they are trying to say that fishing for big twenty pound trout is only a manly thing to do and that women do not belong out on the sea with the boys. The older man has a strained, but happy face in the picture showing that he's having a good time because of the Great Nuts and is able to real in this mammoth Trout because of those delicious Grape Nuts he had earlier in the day.

In my add which is an add for ebay saying if you won the money(its a chance to win $50,000) what would you do with it, and one of the things the guy does is buys a big monster truck and goes to pick up his son. This would normally just look like a cool new add that you might enjoy but i find it says so much more. It is showing male dominance and much much more. It also shows what every dad in the world wants to be like. So i will study the psychollogy in my ad, and the sociology, and more. Those are just two things that i will study. My add is saying that he is the number one dad, if you dont believe me look on the front license plate of the monsterous truck. It says "number 1 dad". Both in front of the truck and behind the truck there are cars lined up. The cares are all picking up their children, and most if not all the children are leaning out of the window of the car looking back at the truck! All of them are in awe as if it were Jesus standing right in front of them. The kid himself was standing in front of the school smiling and probably really happy to have a dad like him, so the ultimate goal of this ad is to show what every son, and dad, want to have. Son wants an awesome dad, and the dad, wants to look cool, and be the number one dad!!

I am planning on analyzing a diet pill/weight loss ad. Not only in my analysis will I include what I visually see in the ad, but I will also include some of the sociological and psychological effects on the mind and body when pressure to use the product, and in turn 'maybe' lose weight or appear better, healthier, sexier, stronger..etc...and how all of this affects a person's mental health. Another important aspect that could be included is possibly the media's evolution of the 'ideal' body image and look. This could depict how the 'ideal' image changes..possibly providing evidence in some peoples eyes that a natural ideal does not change the way the media's perfect look does. The 'in' look is always speculative, always ever changing..but natural and true beauty is everlasting..much deeper than the surface and lasts longer than a fake tan or wax job. Another possibility that would be good to include is how eye catching is the ad? does it make you feel bad about yourself? badly enough to make you want to buy the product out of media-induced self hate? I think that is their ploy to marketing of those 'self-bettering' products because people don't want to feel badly about themselves..so they give into unnecessary change and buying because of the mind games that advertising companies play on them. Another factor I'd like to include in my analysis is an explanation of what exactly you are putting into your body and all of the risk factors and possible complications that come along with it. I am positive that there are unsafe over the counter diet pills and weight loss aids that are unhealthy and have harmful short term and lifelong side effects. Yet people still, in knowing of the harmfulness of the product still take it to ensure that they become 'better' at all costs...this simply shows how much people are willing to 'give' to look and feel good about themselves. It is really a sad reality.

I choose a truck ad. Its a big F-250 Ford. It has and extra object on it and it's there to help you get in and out of your truck bed. It is added on the tailgate and once you open the truck bed there is a little handle you pull up to help ((you get)simple) in it pops up and the off the bottom of the tail gate there is additionl two steps that pop down. for older men or even little kids to get up into the truck bed. Poeple hate you have to jump up and into the bed so this could be handie to many people in the world. They always add some kind of heavy looking object. In this ad they put abunch of cement in the truck bed. This makes the truck look like it can take alot of weight. This will get the eyes of those people who like to work there truck hard and get all the use out of there truck. This shows that the truck can be beat up. And in my eyes ford trucks are very sweet trucks. They are the first of tucks that i have to seen to add a pair of steps and a handle to help get into the truck. These steps could also help keep your truck from getting scratched by your pets. The steps will make it so the dog or animal doesnt have to jump up into your truck bed. The history of the trucks are wonderful. They are built ford tough. Every year they try to make there truck better. They take some ideas from other trucks and cars to put on there own style of ford.

iam doing my ad in budweiser, iam going to dig out why budweiser puts hot models in their ads and makes budweiser one of the most popular beer in the marquet. i believe and with my educated knowledge that budweiser put hot models because man think about sex every 7 seconds, so that means that sex is a major thing for a man this days. Budweiser make men look at their ads and they just devorved the imag of the hot madel with their eyes. The budweiser logo is red and the bikinis of te modes is red, studies say that red our reaction to the color is almost instantaneous and has a profound impact on the choices we make every day and also the color red effects us meantaly http://www.squidoo.com/allaboutred

My ad shows koolness. Actually it isnt cool at all its just the name brand given to the cancerous cigarettes. That try to promote people viewing this ad to convince them that smoking their brand creates 'koolness' but in reality it isnt cool at all and cause unattractiveness. This ad shows a motorcyclists resting on his motorcycle gazing off into the distance as if he is proud that he feels like a man smoking his cigs and ridin' his awesome motorcyle as if he is a B.A. This ad i believe is trying to get in touch with men who want to become manly and women who find this man sexy. So it does attract both sex groups but does it sell? I dont know anyone who smokes those cigarettes so they obviously arent all the qaulity as the ad presents the cancer sticks. whats even more interesting about this ad though is that the man on the motorcycle isnt really smoking a cigarette in the picture so it seems hes not promoting the disgusting things.

In your advertisement analysis essay, you're going to talk about what the hidden message is in the ad. You're not going to talk about what the ad is telling you straight up; i strongly believe that everyone can figure out what the ad is telling them just by glancing at it.(compound) What they don't see is the message that it really is trying to tell them. The Lopez ad you have attached to this blog, ya it's telling you that Lopez approves of this deseo jewel, but what it really is telling you is that by buying this jewel for someone, could mean that she will reward you with her body. Just look at Lopez and how she's sitting in that hammock and how her butt is the center of attention almost. You don't think they highlighted her butt on purpose? Of course they did, who wouldn't do that, Lopez is famous for her big butt. You go ask someone the first thing they think of when you say Jennifer Lopez, they're going to say she's hot or she has a big butt. A lot of people put famous people into categories in their mind, it's a psychological thing in everybody. Now in your essay about your ad you're more than likely going to go into detail explaining the ad and everything in it, this way it gives the audience something to think about.(complex) You might also mention fun facts just to keep them awake if you get to boring.(simple) Whatever you do while making your essay, just make it so people will want to read it, not put it down and try to find something more thrilling to their needs.(compound complex) Organizing this paper so you know for a fact that you did very well on it and you're confident, is going to take a lot of organizing. You have to plan this paper out and figure out what is all going into it and if it will make sense. It's ver important that your essay makes sense or else you might scare everyone off.

In my ad analysis essay I will discuss the readers of Lucky and Allure Magazines, and, try to find as many hidden messages that will get me into other topics, as possible. I'll also use psychology and sociology as advised by you. I don't know what my plan/outline will look like. I am going to do a lot of research so i can associated my ad with music, and its history, history of the magazine intself, and history of the brand of, in the case of my ads, clothing. Also i will see what celebrities the models might look like and their carreers. I will analyze the settings of the ads and conceive scenerios of what could of/might be happening. I will analyze the body language of the models, the hidden messages, and the facial expression. I will also analyze the item/product, in my case, clothes, that the ad is trying to sell. I don't have any wording or numbers in my ads so that is one less way i'll be able to find hidden meanings, such as 69 or anything like that. i do, however have some leading lines, that when they come together, they make something close to a peak or an arrow. One of the girls in my ads is walking with a guy and her shirt is tied so you can see her middriff and one of the leafs, so to speak, is pointing directly at her partners groin. I will also closely analyze my ads to find cultural topics that may/will lead to "examinations of our cultural approaches and mindsets." I will also analyze who is being/will be targeted by this ad, as well as why the models were chosen for those ads, and I will analyze what else are in those magazines, what topics they were covering at the time and what was happening in the world during the time the magazine was released.

S: Sorry my analysis was late.
S: This ad is feminine.
CD: This ad is in a guys magazine, therefore the ad wants guys to buy this perfume for their girlfrinds.
CD: JLo is making eye contact and she is showing off a lot of skin.
CX: My ad reveled the woman's chest knowing it would catch the eye of readers as well as put a white scarf around the guys' neck to draw your attention to hime.
CX: There are so many other things in the store itself that I can talk about looking at this Guess ad.
CD-CX:I can talk about why my ad was put in the magazine it was put in and who the ad is targeting.
CD-CX:I could talk about the models body movements and their focus of attention; I could also talk about their surroundings.

The advertisment that i am analysing for my essay will be a D and G fragrance ad that is trying very hard to use sex to sell their product. Their ad features three butt naked women and three presumably naked men all close together in a group and covering themselves up with their hands.(complex) In my ad i am planning on looking up some of the history of the product and seeing what other types of ads they have. I am also planning on talking about the reasons that the ad would really influence the reader or viewer to buy the product and i will try and figure out or discuss why people make these decisions.(Compound) The things in society that affects us and why certain people do certain things to fit in will also be contemplated because it will definantly make the essay more interesting to read!(Compound-Complex) My ad has great looking people and they look as though they are staring straight at you like they are trying to draw you in with their eyes. The plain background makes the naked people stick out intensly.(simple) We look at this ad and we think to ourselves how can people possibly buy this product just because of this sex-filled ad but subconsciensly, it really does draw us in. We as humans want to look like the people in the ad and we feel as though it will make us look like gods, though it really wont, it will just make us smell good. But, if you want to hear more about my ad, and more about why I believe humans choose this fragrance, read my essay, i assure you it should be a good one. I will be including some stuff on how ads have evolved into what they are today and i will also include all the subliminal messages i can find in my ad! By the way, sorry this blog was late Mr. C!

The ad I am doing is for a perfume called "All You've Ever Wanted". This perfume is inspired by Demi Moore and she's also in the ad. The ad has Demi Moore lying there her hair spread out to the side of her. in one hand she has a bottle of the perfume. a guy is lying upside down and kissing her neck, opposite of her hand. all you see is the guy's head a little of his shoulder. She's looking directly at you. I intend to go into Demi Moor's career as a movie star and what kinda of roles and other things she's done. Also, this ad is targeting higher class white women. I know this because at the bottom it says the perfume will be available at Macy's, which is known for being more expensive. It's also in a People Style Watch magazine, which targets people who can buy more expensive things. She's also wearing a purple shirt which is the color of royalty, and has on gold bracelets which symbolize wealth. I would also cover how the man is barely being shown in the ad. It seems more like she's in control, rather than the guy. I'm going to dig even more into what other hidden messages this ad could have in it.

Chris Kujawa I want to analyze my Borderland ad. So with this add I will be able to talk about things like how it relates to movies like "I am legend" and "Mad Max" even the resident evil movies if i cound the downloadable content. along with that i will talk about how it is a huge escape from reality, this game depicts everything that my or your life is not. Crazy, post apocalyptic, risky, epic, movie-like, dangerous: our life is more usual and boring, safe, secure, non-fulfilling, just plain basic. I will also talk about the fact that the maturity and the blood and gore can almost turn a childs head around, like in the sence of if a kid that plays a lot of these gory games would see someone die in real life, what would they say or do... reactions i think would be less because the kids see these things happen everyday in a video game. But if you here on the news of some kid killing or kidnapping someone and blame it on a video game they are either crazy and belong in a mental institution or they deserve death themselves, mainly because they know they are playing a video and they sould know that its not real, this could be blamed on parenting or the kid is just looking for a way out and blames it on something that seems like it could be believable. So all in all this add will make you think and maybe look at games a little different than you ever would have before.
