I've seen plenty of Robot/Human movies such as "Maximum Overdrive" (1986) and a couple of episode on the old classic tele series called "The Twilight Zone" I find them quite fascinating, the author's insight on the future of having machines take over the world is very possible(to a certain extent). These books or movies give us a personal opinion of what the author thinks and believes may happen if we're not careful. It sort of stimulates and creates a outlandish imaginative mind. Thus creating movies and stories like: Alice in Wonderland, I-Robot, Matrix, etc. I truly like the whole Sci~Fi style series.

Well there are many different movies I could list but one TV show sticks out in my mind, stargate SG-1 there is a race that is entirely made up of humans who are hosts for robotic parasites who invade your body and control you. The stargate members want to try to help them get these parasites out of their bodies (they aren’t born with them; they are given them in an injection into their bodies when they are at a certain age. The people are reluctant to get them taken out because having them in their bodies is all they have ever known. This shows that not all invasions of robots into the body is bad. We believe that we should have our own thought, and do what we want, but if we didn’t know any better then we wouldn’t be so paranoid of technology taking over. There are many movies and shows out there that teach us to somewhat fear technology, but this just makes some people paranoid and makes technology look bad. I f we didn’t have people saying that things like that could happen and that it’s bad, then we may not think so and maybe it might happen someday. We really don’t know what will happen in the future.
I love these kinds of movie/shows/books, I love anything that is fascinating and gets your mind going. Anything that makes you stop and think is worth watching/reading.

I just finished the book 1984, and in the book, the government/party has technology that can watch and listen to people no matter where they are; they have microphones in the middle of nowhere sometimes. The people that are rebelling against the party are terrified of this technology because they fear getting caught. It was the authors way of expressing his fear that technology in the future will be more advanced and can be used for much worse things.

I haven't seen the Matrix yet, but by watching some of it in class makes me want to watch it because it looks very interesting. I can't think off the top of my head the movies that I have seen that deals with Man vs. Machine, but I would find them very interesting because they would make you think. Just like how the Terminator scared people to think that in 2029 we were going to be ruled by robots, Terminator also made them think and consider if that could ever happen. I agree that we need technology, but I also think that we can have too much. If we invent technology for everything because we're too lazy to most things in life, then yes we will be controlled by machines along with controlling machines. But I like how movies like the Matrix can make you think differently about life in a weird and interesting, yet truthful way.

Movies like I, Robot and the terminator and the matrix are all fun to watch. We know that it won't happen in our life time if at all so we find movies like these entertainting, not non-fictional. The movie "AI (aritifical intelligence)" reminds me a lot of this. This little boy is made just like a human with feelings. He was the first child robot and everyone thinks he is real. This movie would relate to Chief's thoughts and hullicantions.

I get the connection of man vs. machine in the terms machines are bad and man must fight to not be oppressed. I actually would like to allude to an example where man uses technology to save himself from himself. In "The Cure" by Sonia Levitin, people are forced to shun their individuality and conform to set rules; those who don't must get "cured". The cure was a machine that would place you in a "digital" reality and show you the horrors of individuality and a society with out extreme limitations. The main charater is thrown into plague infested Europe to see it's horrors, but becomes more effected by the more powerful emotions of the human mind, love and compassion; which are forbidden in the "real" world. Yes, there is always the fear of machines taking control, but they can also keep us in touch with our human selves.

I see the connection with man vs machine in this book but it also makes me think about the other conflicts. This book is also man vs man, mcmurphy vs. big nurse, and even man vs diesese, men in the ward vs. schizophrenia,. a good movie that shows both man vs man and man vs diesese is "I am Legend" Will smith must battle men who have unique diseases to save himself and mankind. he must also conqure the diesese. I wonder if in this book the men in the ward must battle thier own diseases to save themselves?

I think that these man vs. machine movies we watched were interesting because I have always wondered about things that could happen like this and through these movies it is easier to see and comprehend what a world would actually be like like this. I think that 'The Matrix' was such an interesting movie, because as the creator and as a viewer of the movie you must think about the world in an opposite way. You must view the only world we know, Earth and humans, not as the primary and only world, but as the secondary smaller world. It is hard as a human to not view yourself as the 'alphaorganism', but accept the fact that machines are smarter and stronger than us. Other than these two movies that we watched, I have not see a lot of man vs. machines movies. I am usually not a fan of sci-fi movies, and most of these movies would fit in that category. But, I did enjoy watching these movies and found them very interesting.

I think these man vs. machine movies are a little overdramatic and I don't think that this could happen. I have seen "AI" when i was younger and that movie seems more realistic than some of these other movies like "The Terminator" and "The Matrix". I do like these stories because they are interesting to see and think about if this could actually happen and are we, as a race, that stupid to create intelligent machines that would try and kill us.

I like man vs. machine movies because it will always get your mind going on if these types of things will ever happen. They are a little over played, like The Terminator, I just think thats a weird movie. I would hope that the machines would never turn on us and kill humans but you never know i guess. I wont want to be alive if scientists make machines that do so.

I didn't really care for the films at all. I thought about the point they were trying to get across, but I didn't think that it will really happen that way. I think that technology is taking over, in a way, but not to the extent that the movies showed. The movies were extreme exaggerations of what is happening. I think that it is possible for technology to start running us, and taking over, but I dont think that it's going to happen any time that I'm alive and those movies were made a while ago, which, when they were made, it wasn't even really a possibility for technology to be taking over THAT much.

I think we fear machines now becuase they are something relatively new to us, and with machines constantly being used for everything, we have nothing to do ourselves. We fear machines becuase we have nothing else to fear, (the dark you just grabe a flashlight, ect.) so we use machines/technology to get over our fears of other stuff. Also, we have always seen that in some movies, machines will become self-aware and over take us as we the human race are inferior to them, and we cause a problem. Machines can be made to run perfectly and we ruin that inbalance for them. That's why I believe we fear machines, simply becuase we have nothing else to really fear.

No question, Carmen: exaggeration. However, if the points are not exaggerated, will people pay attention?

in a way i believe that the book "Ender's Game" and the whole "Ender" series is sort of man vs. machine. except "machine" is not always a machine. sometimes it is his brother. sometimes it is the buggers. sometimes it is his rivals in battle school. you truly need to read at least one of the books in this series if not all.

I get the connections with the man vs. machine theme. A movie I have seen is the preditor. I think it is interesting to us to see movies like this because we havnt really encountered anything to this extent so far. It kind of freaks some people out because they think what if this really happend. Yes some parts in these movies are obvious that it couldnt happen. But if they didnt have this i dont think that people would find it so interesting to watch movies like this. Technology today is greatly improving all the time. I think that this plays a part when we watch these movies because we think that maybe this really could happen. Like in the book it is McMurphy vs. Nurse. They are always not getting along and butting heads just like in the man vs. machine movies, just not to the extent as in the movies but are alike.

Through watching these films and reading this book man vs. machine keeps getting clearer and clearer. Watching these movies or reading over this topic really makes people think and fear technology, especially me. I am a scaredy-cat hard core, so just thinking about how technology can overcome humans and control is rather frightening. What would be people do if machines and/or technology was totally out of the picture. Everybody would be devestated in some way or another, like going back in time when technology was not used. That would be difficult, probably the hardest thing people would have to face. In the new movie, Eagle Eye, technology takes over and tries to "better" the world in the way it thinks is fit.

yes I understand the connections we made to the films. I have seen a lot of movies about technology taking over. Like War of the Worlds, the aliens come with their big tripods and destroy the town and many of the people. I do enjoy these books and movies because they are fictional and nonfictional at the same time. It's true that technology is taking over but the way they do it is in a nonfictional way. I like these movies and books because they are different and they are interesting to see the humans try and overcome the robots, in the end they usually do. In the movie, eagle eye, the computer is controlling their lives! This shows how we fear technology. The computer killed people...the computer! Its not even alive and it can still do things that people can do, it's crazy!

Yes, I do like the films dealing with man vs. machine! I think we should watch more doing school. I think there very interesting. Some people fear technology taking over the world. But most of those people don't use technology like most of us; who put technology to use everyday and betters us in life. I like the man vs. machine movie called Transformers if you haven't watched it before, you better go rent it!
