I thought the bike could represent life. Too many people at once in or on it. The girls keep riding faster and faster and I thought that could be them growing up. They ride past the stores and I thought it could be they are riding past the bad memories.
What about her mother's hair? It could represent comfort and simplicity, with the way she describes it. Even though not a motif (it only comes up once), it still seems and important symbol.
