Whose Fault?

Whose fault is it, ours or the media's? Is it our fault for only wanting to watch and hear about the terrible things that occur here and around the world (the media wants ratings, you see)? Or is it the media's fault for only giving us the terrible news?

I feel this has been the media's general transition to the direction they believe people want to see. If a news station is only showing "feel good" stories, they will not hold the ratings the "gripping" news stations do. People like action, people like racy and taboo things, that change has occured in movies, tv shows, the news, everywhere.
I also believe the media, especially those shown with the monkeys on the picture, are trying to only show the big problems outside of the country. If the problems seem farther away, it seems much more like a movie, much more like fiction than if it is something close to home and could impact Americans.

It is neither group's fault that society is moving this way, it is just the transition of culture, moving away from the "I Love Lucy," sitcoms to the "Survivor," reality shows of the modern age.

I see it from both sides. It seems that people are only intrested in the bad things on the news, but it also seems that there is only bad news on the news. Whenever I watch the news in the morning it always talks about who was arrested, and high gas prices, and the war. We almost never get to hear good uplifting news.

I would have to say that it is mostly the viewers fault because the media only breaks stories that will appeal to the audience. If people started to watch good stories than the media would show more good stories. All the media is trying to do is appeal to the audience and violence seems to appeal more than the good stories.
