My Favorite; How About Yours?

Life of Pi is my favorite book because it has math, philosophy, religion, spirituality (different from religion), science, nature, ethics, adventure, and everything else anyone could look for in a novel. I found and read this book when I was hungry. I was hungry for the steaks I sold and for knowledge I sought. I remember the summer when I was working as a butcher (at Hy-Vee) and a book-seller (at Barnes and Noble). I'd combine the two jobs to work 15 hours most days, including weekends, trying to get a good start paying my students loans. It was a maddening pace, during which I actually spent a lot of my wages on the two products I peddled: steaks and books. One book that caught my eye had a tiger and a boy on a boat together. It was eye-level on the shelf in the bookstore's new release and staff recommendations section. Once I owned it, I couldn't sleep because my mind was so activated. This is my favorite. What's yours?

(And by the way, Martel is the ultimate "thought criminal"--he sends various books to political leaders to remind them they have the power to influence and create change.)

My favorite book of all time would have to be "The Moves make the Man"...it's about a teenage boy who's a prodigy at basketball and gets to travel overseas to play on tourneyment teams. The book basically tells about his life and what he goes through to get where he is today.

Other than that, I would have to say any book written by Gary Paulsen...I was addicted to his books in middle school during the AR days.

angelas ashes and t'is by frank mccourt are two of the best books i have ever read. angelas ashes is about a family. angela and malachy are the mom and dad. frank, malachy, eugene, otto, michael and a girl are the kids. frank, malachy, and the twins are born in new your. the rest of the story takes place in ireland, its a memoir about the auther, frank mccourts family and the triumphs and downfalls of there lives...very emotional and touching

alicia: my story is another one of the best books i will ever read. i will never forget it. i was in six grade the first time i tried reading it and never fully finished it until 8th grade. it scared me. it built up a hatred of nazis in me. it was an escape from my world which i didnt really enjoy into another world which was absolutely terrifying. the book made me cry, get goose pumps, and shake. alicia and her family and friends are mostly jews in the holocaust. the very first page and the opening lines of the book are "First they killed my brother Moshe ....Then they killed my father ....Then they killed my brother Zachary ....Then they killed my last brother, Herzl. Only my mother and I were left." my mom found this book in my room on my bed and forbade me to read it ever again. i did not want to stop reading it so i read it by flashlight at night. everyone needs to read this book. it was life changing

any book by lee child is awesome too...mystery stories

The best book that I have ever read is House of the Scorpion written by Nancy Farmer. Its about a boy who is a clone of a rich man and he has to live with a drug lord's family. The drug lord who is 147 years old is going to use the boy to harvest his organs so that he can live longer. On the front of the book there is a review that says it a "mind expanding fiction" (usa today) and that is excatly what it did for me. The book made me question ethics and my thoughts on religion as well as made me think about when science can go to far. Farmer threw some adventure in there too, to spice things up a little bit, and I couldn't put the book down. But all and all the book made me think about how I treat others, it is just an all-around great book that made me consider new ideas and any book that does that is a great book.

I am really enjoying the book "life of Pi" I didnt think that I would like it but when I couldnt seem to be able to put it down I realized that it was a very good book. My favorite book is between "Siren" and the "daughters of the moon" series, just because I have a really hard time finding books that pull me in and these books pulled me into the stories. Siren is a mythological book about a single man stuck on an Island and finding out that some myths like mermaids actually exist.I never used to read a lot but all of the sudden I started and that book seems to be my fav.

Finding book that I like is very diffcult. Its so diffcult that I have to buy all of my book, just because they dont have them in the libaray. The books that i read are about the super natural. Like vampires, wearwolves, and faries. My favorite series is the Cirque de Freak by Darren Shan. Its about how a boy gets turned into a vampire and you go though his life as a vampire. I am reading a new series by Darren Shan called the Demonata Series. If you like demons and the super natural grab a book by Darren Shan you wont be disappointed.

One of my other favorite books is The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. It portrays lost youth better than any other novel I could find.

My favorite set of books are those written by Dan Brown... Digital Fortress and Deception Point were both solid stories with a lot of relevance to modern culture, the Da Vinci code opens up a whole world of questions and very few answers... but my favorite book of all is Angels and Demons. This book is a sort of spinoff of the Da Vinci code, a story about a cult whose goal is to destroy Cathalacism at its heart, and there are just so many allusions and political undertones that the book keeps you thinking for long long long after you are finished reading it.

Life of Pi was a good book, it was a simple story with a fairly simple plot up until the end... But the end leaves people thinking, and thinking a lot.

Choosing one book to be my "favorite" is a hard thing to do because there are so many books I have enjoyed reading. That being said, one of my favorites would have to be "Shoeless Joe" by W.P. Kinsella; most of you may be familiar with its movie adaptation Field of Dreams. I love this book because of the perseverance shown by the main character, Ray Kinsella, in following his unthinkable dream of building a baseball field in his cornfield so that his hero, "Shoeless" Joe Jackson,a member of the 1919 "Black Sox" who was banned from baseball for life for intentionally throwing the World Series, could come back to play and have one last moment in the sun and redeem himself.

I love Life of Pi, but my favorite book is Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. I will never say any book is better. You can not make a better book! Angels and Demons is the prequel to the Da Vinci Code. It talks about the main character of da vinci code and how he works in the underground lab in russia that has just learned to produce a small ball with so much matter and energy that it could be called its own universe. Then it goes on to robert langton, the main guy, being asked to help solve a murder at the louvre and then it leads to so much suspense about 4 priests about to be killed and then they are and its just the #1 book ever written!

I love reading!! I can never say what one book I like the most because I like so many. I absolutely love the Harry Potter books. There's also this series of 12 books called the trucolors series. Each book talks about something dramatic that happens to high school girls and in the end they learn about Christ and invite him into their lives. The first book in the trucolors series is called Dark Blue. That one is about two girls going into high school and one of them becoming a cheerleader and making new friends that the other doesn't like and they eventually drift apart. The second book is called Deep Green and this one continues from the first book and is about the cheerleader and one of her friends who fight over a guy and things get ugly. Book number three is Torch Red and is about a high school girl who is jealous because she feels like she's the only girl who is still a virgin so she lies to her friends saying she isn't. The fourth book is called Pitch Black and is about a girl who has to deal with her friend's suicide death. Book number five is called Burnt Orange and it's about a minister's daughter who drinks a lot and manages to drive home drunk without getting caught. Book number six called Fool's Gold and is about a girl who has to learn the hard way about financial freedom. Book number seven is called blade silver and is about a girl who cuts. Book number eight is called Bitter Rose and is about a girl who going through her parents' divorce. The ninth book in the series is called Faded Denim and is about a girl with anorexia and bulimia. The 10th book is called Monn White and is bout a girl who practices witchcraft. Book 11 is called bright purple and is about a lesbian. The last book is called harsh pink and is about jealous cheerleaders. These books are so good that I read each one in a day. I didn't read Bright Purple but I loved the other and I would reccomend them to any high school girl who is either looking for something to read or would like some guidance through any rough time. Also anything by Lurlene McDaniel is really good.

My wife told me Angels and Demons is among her favorites, which is saying something considering she reads a couple books per week. I'll have to check it out.

I would have to say my favorite book i have ever read is Hatchet by Gary Paulsen I do like life of pi it is the same kinda story as the hatchet. One man vs. nature and a story of how he survived.

I'm not really sure what my favorite book is. Life of Pi is definitelly my favorite of the books we have read this year. I love this book. I love adventure books. This book is filled with adventure, wanting me to not stop reading so I can find out the next part.

Bender's right: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is brilliant and fascinating. The movie sucks, though. Because it cannot include all the cleverness the novel can.

Douglas Adams is the author. Check it out.

Gary Paulsen is hard to beat, especially for young male readers. The guy's been entertaining us for years. Does he still publish frequently?

Lindsey--So glad to hear you're enjoying Martel's novel. If you can handle this one, you'll be fine at ENGL 210 at The University of Minnesota!

My favorite book that i have read throughout my life was entitled "Nixon and Kissinger." This book redefined my views upon the Nixon administration as a whole, it showed me not only how completely distorted our vantage point on this duo is, but it also gave me further insight into what i would have to say is one of the best administrations ever birthed into the White House. It is a must read for any politic fanatic, it not only illustrates the time and setting of the era, but it goes into social and personal things within Nixons life as president.

This book has been good so far. I am excited to finish it but my favorite book I've read would have to be "To Kill a Mockingbird." That book moved me in so many ways and brought out so many different emotions in me: anger, hatred, sympathy, fear, and even happiness. I would reccommend this book to anyone.

Mr. Matt Christensen said...

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is definitely among my favorites, too! The emotions you listed, Leann, are precisely the ones I experience each time I read it also! Boo Radley, Scout, Jem, Atticus, Ewell, Tom Robinson--what a cast of characters!

One of my favorite books is I am the Messenger by Markus Zusak. Its about a bum basically who drives taxis for a living illegally who all of a sudden starts getting cards in the mail with addresses written on them. As he visits these houses he learns something new about the inhabitants, and knows that he has to do something about it. The ending is pretty intense. I find it to be one that i cant put down til i have finished it and i have reread it a few times. Also i like the books Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen. Those three are in a series of their own and i have also read them multiple times. I also own all of these books.

I would have to say that I also enjoyed Hatchet becuase I love the story of man vs nature

Bear Grylls is famous for his show "Man vs. Wild" (on the Discovery Channel, I think). But he never had to exist with an adult male Royal Bengal tiger for 227 days on a lifeboat in the Pacific Ocean without help, food, friends...
