in writing we write, but in composition... we compose.... perhaps we even BUILD... wow

Anonymous said...

It is called composition and not writing because we do not write we compose.

Anonymous said...

Writing can mean a lot of different things, while composition is all about putting something together that is original.

Anonymous said...

We call it composition instead of writing because we compose.

Anonymous said...

We call this class Composition because we are learning how to compose words in a new way.

Anonymous said...

You are composing your own stuff and not just writing it down.

Anonymous said...

Composition is a more formal way of naming the class. We are also going to be doing more than writing. We will probably learn about the best way to write and compose an essay. If you just call it writing it sounds like we are only going to be writing and not learning about the best way to compose something.

It is not simply just writing words down, we are composing works of art.

Anonymous said...

We call this class composition instead of writing because instead of focusing completely on writing we might be focusing a lot more on what is in the writing and what the author was trying to convey.

Anonymous said...

It is called composition because we are composing writing material.

It is called "Composition" and not "Writing" because writing is an art and people compose art. We are not just writing, we are creating works.

Anonymous said...

It is called composition not writing because composition is more formal than writing.

Anonymous said...

We call this class composition because we will be composing words in ways that follow the rules and not just writing, which is more of a broad term.

It's called composition because composition is the more formal word and involves the components of writing.

This class is called composition and not writing because we will focus on how to compose essays and how to best use the English language, which will apply to more English topics outside of writing.

Anonymous said...

We call the class composition and not writing because we are composing our own thoughts and ideas into the writing that we do. We learn how to compose a proper essay.

Anonymous said...

This class is called Composition instead of Writing because it focuses primarily on essay writing instead of freewriting. Essay writing is generally more structured than freewriting, hence "Composition" is more appropriate for the subject as Writing is more freeform and Composition is more structured in terms of definition.

Anonymous said...

It might be called composition instead of writing because the things we will be writing are more sophisticated and formal.

Anonymous said...

We call it composition because it sounds better.

Anonymous said...

This class is composition because we like to feel smart

Anonymous said...

This class is called composition instead of writing because we are attempting to compose an essay - not write one. We may write sentences, but it is how we compose these sentences that make a wonderful essay.

Anonymous said...

Putting words together in order to conduct writing, using all past english education.

Anonymous said...

Composition sounds more professional than writing and sounds more like a college level class.

Anonymous said...

It's called composition because we compose stuff about ourselves rather then write about something we learned

This is called composition not writing because the class is not just about writing nonsense it is about composing literary work.

Anonymous said...

This class is called composition because we will compose essays and other things instead of just "writing" them.

Anonymous said...

We call it composition because it sounds more difficult than writing.

Anonymous said...

We come up with our own stories or essays not just look up someone else's story or information and write it down.

Anonymous said...

Writing is just the action of forming words with letters, but composition is the action of forming a story.

Anonymous said...

It is more than just writing. It is composing words and thoughts in a way that is not simply just writing things down.

Anonymous said...

The class is called composition because it sounds more prestigious than writing.

Anonymous said...

This class is called composition and not writing because we will learn how the best way to compose essays, instead of just writing them.

Anonymous said...

Composing is more formal than writing, and that formality is needed in our essays.

Anonymous said...

It is called composition because it teaches us about what writing is composed of.

Anonymous said...

I believe that we call this class composition because it covers mostly essays that require a composition to it.

Anonymous said...

I think that it is called composition we are composing words to create something pleasing to read

Anonymous said...

We call this class composition because we will be doing more than just writing, we will be doing more structured writing so "composition" is a better term for the class.

Zoey said...

We call this call composition because it is more formal than writing. While writing is a general term in the American language, the composition could describe putting other a bunch of ideas.

Anonymous said...

In my opinion, the class is called composition instead of writing because the writer can write in any form without structure. In "Composition" the writer composes. They create a structured story or build upon a preexisting one. Writing is informative, composition is aa artform.

Izzie said...

Composition is a form of art. You are creating something that is meant to be seen by the public and is therefore formal and has a sense of organization. Writing can be anything, a list of numbers is writing, but that's not going to help your case.

Anonymous said...

It's called composition because it shows you the makeup (or composition) of good writing and the English language.

Anonymous said...

Because no one would want to take a class called writing. It sounds like a lot more work than Composition.

Anonymous said...

It's called composition because it is writing, formatting, and analyzing.

Anonymous said...

We call this class Composition because we treat our essays with the art and creativity as a musician would compose a song.

Anonymous said...

Colleges want to make it seem like you are taking a much harder class than you truly are.

Anonymous said...

Composition is called composition because it is the act of making a piece of "artwork" in a sense by putting many things together. You use knowledge and formal/interesting/complexing words to compile all you know into one work.

Anonymous said...

It is called Composition and not Writing to show a much fancier term to what we are doing. We are not so much writing stories as we are composing works of literary art in the form of essays or stories. To spread words like in a song or visuals in art.

Anonymous said...

It is called composition because we are here to build, revise, and then construct again rather than plainly spurt out words.

Rachael said...

I think it is called composition because you are creating writing and literature.

Anonymous said...

This class is called Composition instead of writing because composing means to take stuff and put it together to create something. That is what we'll do because we are creating something new instead of just writing down a math problem or writing your name. We are creating something as a whole instead of just writing something down.

Anonymous said...

This class is called composition instead of writing because you can write about anything with no rules or guidelines to follow. On the other hand, when you compose a piece of literature you add structure to it and include guidelines.

Anonymous said...

It's called composition because you are not only writing essays and papers but also composing them.

Anonymous said...

It is called composition because you are putting something together in an attempt to make someone feel or think something. It is different than writing as writing can be any amount of written language and may mean nothing.

Anonymous said...

We call this composition instead of writing because anyone can write a few sentences or paragraphs, but someone who knows how to write can further learn to compose a sentence or a paragraph. One with structure and meaning.

Anonymous said...

Writing is the action of putting words on paper. These words do not have to be in a specific order and they do not have to mean anything. Composing is putting things together in order to make a whole.

Anonymous said...

I think it is called composition because you will compose rather than write.

Anonymous said...

Writing can be done in any fashion and is not necessarily considered an art form. For instance, an employee might have to write up a report of how a machine functioned. The written language holds a direct meaning explaining to the boss what physically happens during the duration of the machining process. Composition is more of an art form that has meanings beyond physical words describing something directly.

Anonymous said...

It is called composition because you learn how to compose a piece of writing and how to put it together instead of just writing it.

Anonymous said...

Anyone can write, but using proper grammar and stylized writing techniques you can compose. Composition is more than something that is just written. A composition contains a writer's unique style, writing techniques, and much more. It is much more like an art style than it is regular writting.

Anonymous said...

We call it composition because we dig deeper than just writing. We construct, revise, and perfect our work.

Anonymous said...

It is called composition because we compose a piece over various amounts of times and revisions rather than just writing one thing and sending it in

Anonymous said...

You are writing, but you also have to interoperate and understand what you are righting and have your essays be comprised and composed of ideas, facts, and (depending on the topic) opinions.

Anonymous said...

Composition is the formation of relevant information in a form of work such as writing. Writing is not specific enough to accurately name this class. Writing is just putting words together to form sentences. These sentences don't have to be relevant to each other.

Anonymous said...

I believe the class is called "composition" and not "writing" because there is a lot more dept to composing something rather than merely writing it. For example, writing could simply mean jotting a reminder on a sticky note or adding an important day to your calendar. To compose something means you have to take time to layer together everything that needs to be included and present it in a neat, organized manner, thus making it different from simply writing.

Anonymous said...

In my opinion, this class is called composition because it is the formal term for writing. The word writing is pretty bland. I think that there is a pretty definitive definition for composition but when it comes to writing it can mean a lot of things.

Anonymous said...

It is called composition due to you composing a story of sorts that is formal and follows the structure of the English language. Compared to a writer just writing with not much structure to it.

Anonymous said...

We don't just write to write we analyze and understand the concepts of composition.

Anonymous said...

It's called composition and not writing because we are learning how to properly compose the work we create to reflect literacy and proper English convention rather than learning basic writing skills. Composing something that one writes is about much more than simply writing it, as grammar, figurative language, sentence variety, and other literary elements must be considered.
-Koch

Gingles said...

It is called Composition and not Writing because we are at a level of knowledge in our lives to which we know that we don't just write papers. We compose essays to express what we need to say on an advanced literary level.

Because I looked up what composition meant and at no point did it say anything about writing. I imagine Mr. Schlekeway played a role in naming it as well.

This class is labeled composition rather than writing because it involves writing with structure and direction

I think of composition as the act of composing a narrative, rather than just writing words to learn how to use those words intelligently. - Gayken
