What will college writing assignments be like? What will professors demand? What skills must we/you work on this year? What have you heard from siblings/friends currently in college? To earn a great grade, research a college English/composition course by searching online for a college you're considering--you can fairly easily find a syllabus or site that will enlighten you. Include the link you found. (You may also click on the college links in the right hand column of this blog.) Write 300+ words answering these questions. The writing assessments as well as the assignments in college will be demanding and commanding a vast majority of my attention. I do believe I will not have any time to myself. Some can handle that and most go bezique at the idea of not putting so much time into their social life. I for one enjoy having my nose in the books of knowledge or for that matter any book. Authors write to share their points of view and to engross the world as to what maybe swimming in their minds. Professors will expect the best. Yes, that means reading and rewriting what the subjected material needs. If I were a professor I would expect nothing less of my students to write or produce something far below their standards let alone mine. College professor want to delight in the personal thought of the students. They feed off our mind, ideas and progressive thinking as much as we do theirs. I have heard of the fact it can become intimidating but I’m not too worried about it. Having full confidence in me, my mind, ideas, and my writing skills there is no doubt I will survive well enough on my own. I decided to not use a link but the link will be with that of my mind. I have met with several college professors in my old school because of my writings. They are fascinated to sit in the classroom and listen to me think. To be honest, I surprise myself just as anyone should. They want you to feel comfortable wording questions and twisting some of the “theories” around in your head; contorting them to match your own logically way of thinking. In truth they don’t want someone who can toss big words out, they want unique sophisticated ideas from you. You are the novel to the professor and they are just the lens.

College writing assessments I believe will be similar to those of College Bound English, but to a higher level, and more intensity. They will require us to really use all the knowledge we have, and than from that knowledge add more to it, making the assessment an honest collection of what we know, and have gotten out of our high school courses. Professor will demand that we give them the time inside and outside of class to comprehend what they are teaching us, and at the same time will not be there to baby us, which a lot of teachers do throughout the course of our educational career. They want us to not expect to be treated like children anymore, but adults, and as adults we have to get comfortable to the surroundings of the real world, and not the crib at home. The professors will want us to reach outside of the comforts of our own cultures, ideas, etc., and than take from the information we have received a better way of understanding ourselves, and what exactly we stand for. Professor Bruce Harvey states that, “A major stumbling block in appreciating theory is the discomfort, as it were, of entering the party when u don’t know the names of anyone”, meaning know that in the beginning it will be uncomfortable, but the more you talk and assert yourself, the more successful and knowledgeable you will be. The skills that must be achieved are really understating the literary devices and their worth, and stepping outside of the realm of comfort in order to achieve the task being assigned. From the recent students of Mr. Christensen’s classes, it seems that they have been most thankful for the literary devices, and how they have really helped them succeed in college, which is a good thing that this course is an option, because without who knows where that would put us when we stepped into our college English class, probably nowhere.

When I think about my future of going to college and the classes I will take, I hope that in general they will challenge me to do things I have never done and think in ways I have never thought. This year in English I hope that I can learn from you, Mr. C, and also from my fellow students. I want to be able to trust my classmates and to learn from them when they are editing my papers and such. I have the image of a college English class in my head as something that will challenge me. I want to be forced to do things out of my comfort and ability zone; and I have no doubts that my college professors will accomplish that. Aside from challenging me, I think that my professors will demand nothing less than my best. They will want me to write not only from notes and research, but from my own brains and from the heart. They want to know my opinions and what I think or feel. Perfection in the areas of grammar and spelling is something that I will have to master in all of my papers and assignments. I know that I do not have the abilities to write a paper worthy of the college level as of right now, but that is one of many things that I hope to work on this year. By the end of the year I also want to be able to explore your opinions as well as my own. I want to have the confidence to express my opinions as well. Those are all things I hope to improve on this year with the help of you, Mr. C.
I have not done much talking to my brother, Erik, about what English courses are like in college. However, he does say that this college bound English class helped him prepare for what he was handed in college. This class actually was his motivation for his original major choice.
I researched an English 120 course at the University of North Dakota. It is an English composition class where students do writing from research. Students research and learn the correct way to write a paper from that research.

I think college writing assignments will require the use of heavy thinking skills and deep thought similar to that of College Bound English, along with also being many pages long with over 1000 words. professors will most likely demand my attention and respect along with trying to provide us with a challenge that teaches us new things and changes the way we think about thinks and broaden our horizons. They will also require us to teach our selfs in some ways and use all of our resources around us instead of just depending on them alone to find our answers. This year I will need to work on my syntax and spelling skills so that I can be nice and ready for writing complex sentence structure in essays and reports along with spelling correctly. I have heard from my siblings that college is very tough and depending on the classes you take do not give much free time. Also I heard from them that you have to study for everything on your own and most professors do not care if you come to class but if you don't attend you will miss something very important on a test or paper. I have also heard that classes are mostly lecture and you have to be able to take quick notes and jot things down that you think are important. They also said that the books are very expensive and that buying them used and reselling them is a very smart thing to do in college. I also heard that parking spots are terribly hard to find and people should bring bikes or skates to get around. I researched SDSU English Literary Course and found the syllabus where it says they will be studying how Beauty and the Beast reappear in various literary works.

I believe the college writing assignments will be greatly challenging. The writing assignments will challenge me to think deeper, to write with more intensity and passion, to use all the knowledge I have, and it maybe thousands of words and plenty of pages long. The professors I believe will demand nothing but the best out of me. They will demand I take my writing a step further with deeper thinking, syntax, and more polish. Not only will they demand perfection in writing, they will demand my respect and attention. A lot of what I think the college professors will demand of me, our high school teachers are also demanding out of me already. I think already you, Mr.C have demanded nothing but the best out of me. You expect me to write passionately and with knowledge, and have taught me how to think “deeper” rather than to accept concepts right away. On the path you have already set for us, I do believe this year will continue to challenge me to go a step further in my writing and analyzing different concepts. I know you, Mr. C have and will continue to challenge me so I am ready to advance on to college courses next year. Yet, the high school teachers at Brandon Valley are trying to prepare us for what to expect at college, it will be different. Our teachers right now are more than willing to help us out in as many ways possible so we understand the concept; where in college you may be limited to how much help your professor will provide. There may also be a lot more of independent studying rather than in class discussion. I have heard from my brother, Alex Nachreiner that all college courses are hard; no matter what class you take. You are challenged everyday to obtain knowledge, and to think deeper. He has said that there is a lot of studying done on your own and it may take many hours. This past weekend, he was working on an English paper for twelve hours on Saturday, and was only half way done. He said, “This needs to be the greatest paper ever written, I have to work hard on it.” Although during his freshman year in college he told me he was able to use his essays and papers from Mr. C’s College Bound English course for his English class. He said all he had to do was polish it more and elaborate more. This shows how College bound is going to prepare me for my college English courses. I studied the Introductory Guide to Critical thinking. In this course they will be analyzing different ideas, concepts, pictures, advertisements, and etc while using the lenses. Much like what we have been doing already.

I believe that college level writing assessments will be like those of the high school college bound class. In college we, as students, will be expected to analyze from a variety of opposing views. By working on the lenses in college bound English, I will be better prepared to enter a college English/composition course. Many college professors will demand great, knowledgeable writing from all his/her students. They will accept no less than each individual student’s best work. Writing college assessments, students will spend large amounts of time researching in the library. Professors expect a variety of sources to be researched including newspapers, books, documents, and many others. In researching this topic of English/composition syllabus; I have seen numerous sites of English/composition courses. They have all been comparatively similar with minor differences depending on the professor. No matter where you go you will be expected to do many of the same things. These include, writing with correct grammar, analyzing, synthesizing, drawing your own conclusions, and being able to make a good argument for what you believe in. Your opinions in these English/composition classes are very important to professors. I have heard from many friends in college that a lot of their grade in their class form from participation during class and speaking up. While talking in front of a lot of people is not one of my strong qualities, we are working on this in college bound English and I believe I will be prepared for college by taking this high school class. I think that you, Mr. Christensen, have made your college bound English class a great environment full of real college experiences and expectations by which we will all be well prepared to enter college next year. You have been working with us on the appropriate skills we will all need in the variety of classes we will all take in the continuation of our education.

In my experiences with English classes and then thinking about future college writing assignments it truly scares me I’ve never been that good with written in English classes I don’t know what some terms of writing mean like for example what is a thesis statement and what should it look like I have no idea what it is therefore I know that the assignments wont be easy for me. I expect the college coarse to be a lot like College Bound well at least I am hoping so but I do expect the writing assignments to be longer and probably even more in depth. Professors will most likely demand passion, truth, enthusiasm, and true effort in all of the writing assignments that they assign. “Being the Voice not the Echo” also I am sure is what they will demand like you are pushing right now. We all somewhat need to learn to believe in ourselves in voicing our opinions and speaking out everyone should be able to do this not just some. A skill that I think I should work on this year is actually putting passion and enthusiasm in my writings so its actually something that someone would want to read I would hate to bore my professor with a huge essay that isn’t interesting at all to them. All that my sister has told me so far about her English class is that thanks to you, Mr. C, it is way easier then what she was anticipating. I’m thinking if I pay attention and actually put one hundred percent effort into this class next year will go a lot better then what I am thinking it will be. All in all study hard, put in effort, do my best and I should be just fine.
College writing assignments will be a lot like College Bound assignments that we do now except for the fact in college the assignments will be held to a higher level than College Bound. Also, I think that the assignments will be a bit challenging and will have to think outside of the box a little bit more than usual. If you think outside of the box, you could come up with more ideas and some of those ideas could be ideas that no one could have expected. What a professor demands of you is that you be to class on time and come up with your own ideas and use those ideas to create your essays. This particular professor demands that you know technology because part of the class is done on a computer for presentations and the use of interactive software to do different things with the class. The prof. says that if you don’t have experience with technology that you should transfer to another section of Eng. 220. The way the system works too is that for quizzes and if you miss the class because you are sick, you can’t make it up and they are unannounced so if you miss too many of them you could fail the class, and the other 2 grades are the take-home essay exam and a final, in-class exam. What I need to work on this year is getting my thoughts organized to a point where I can write a paper. I sometimes have troubles just getting to write about a subject and get my thoughts go everywhere so if I could improve on that and also if I could work on syntax variety that would also be great. I know that if I work on those two things that I could easily be a successful writer and become successful in a job.

I plan to attend South Dakota State University in Brookings, and have researched a few of the English courses provided there. All of the courses require the students to analyze and evaluate what they read and write. Introduction to English Studies, taught by Dr. Jason McEntee, will teach the students to write from a variety of different stances and provides training in research methods. Papers in all the classes I’ve researched are based on readings from poetry, drama, and fiction. Dr. Sharon Palo’s class includes everything taught in Dr. McEntee’s class and the use of critical lenses. The school provides a wide variety of English and Literature classes, including classes like British Literature I and Women in Literature. There are so many options it’s hard to not find an English class that strikes your interest. If a student has an interest in history, almost every class that is a part of the English department has something to do with American History and even World History. English Professors at SDSU will demand that the student is willing to focus and wanting to put forth an effort in his or her education. To ensure success in these classes, students must realize that determination and time are a big part of what it takes to achieve. I think Mr. Christensen is doing a great job at preparing us for the future and what it has in store for us. After reading this syllabus, I feel we’ve covered a major portion of what college professors wish to teach and I know our class will be more than ready to take on college level English. My brother recently attended the University of South Dakota, and said that College Bound made a huge difference in his understanding of English and was glad he decided to take it.

I have four cousins that go to SDSU, and from visits and texting, it sounds like their English courses take up the most time out of all their homework. I always have to watch them write these ridicules, lengthy papers on a subject. They do get a couple of days to a week to do it, but the professor expects a paper that looks like it took a week to prepare. They have to be very detailed and have near perfect grammar. They also expect it to be done on time right before class starts. It sounds like it could be dreadful next year, but I always go into new classes expecting the worse. I know I would also be expected to read it in front of the class as well. So, I must take advantage this year on getting comfortable with speaking in front of my peers. I do look forward to being challenged mentally just like I was/am this year. I know that I can’t be distracted like I am lately this year. I need to stay on top of my assignments and give it my all, even if it takes up all my social time. I am glad I have so many family members that took these exact courses and can help me if I need it outside of class. Man, I can’t believe that I’m already talking about going to college next year. My life feels like it ends after I walk out of the doors of Brandon Valley, but also I feel a new beginning coming for me. A new opportunity to take even more advantage to learn more so I can be prepared after college and live out my dream or my lifestyle choice that I want. Mr. C, I want you to keep pushing me so I can show my next teacher that I am ahead of my class and deserve to be taken seriously. I do enjoy writing papers on subjects that interest me, so I could excel more than what I would expect. Mr. C, you deserve better from me, my effort lately has been poor at best. I want to guarantee an improved attitude towards my assignments in all classes. If I can prove myself that I can get my grades up, then I will convince myself I can thrive in college. Now, after talking to my cousin Zach, I am looking forward towards my English class. He says it is challenging but, also makes you think more than your use to and make you proud by seeing the improvement from last year to now. I want to better myself and look forward in the process.

I believe college writing assignments will be similar to those of College Bound English, but at a higher, more experienced level than what we are doing now. They will hopefully challenge me to think in even more creative ways than I am doing now, and than I have never thought before. Professors will demand students to do their best in everything they do. They will demand the students to go further than they have ever gone before. Professors expect that the students will take what they have learned throughout their thirteen years of education and use all of that knowledge to challenge themselves like they have never been challenged. I need to work on gaining the courage and confidence to express my own opinions and stick up for what I believe in. I also want to be able to write an essay that is college level material by writing from both my brain and heart. My brother has not said anything to me about what college writing assignments are like but he has told me that College Bound is a very helpful class that prepared him for college. By the end of the year I know that I will be ready for what college has to offer because of this class. This class will help me speak up for myself and participate more than what I am currently doing. You, Mr. C., have created a class that offers the most that it can to prepare all students for college, and that is why I believe I will be ready when that time comes.
I looked at Black Hills State's website. The English 101 course is basically practicing all the skills of writing and analyzing different ideas, just like we are already doing in College Bound. In the English 201 course, students learn how to write persuasively, like the essay we are currently writing, and they also improve their writing skills.

I believe college writing assignments will be very extensive and challenging. Professors will demand facts to support my stance on an issue. They will demand me to put out my best effort possible and create the most worthy paper one could ask for. College professors will demand polish, proof, and passion from me. I hope this year while writing essays I can perfect this. I want to go into my first college English course with the knowledge that I can write a college proof essay. I want to be the one of the best writers in my class on the first day. During college bound this year, I hope to learn how to write with some more passion than I have before. I also want to be able to write without having to worry about grammatical errors. My brother, Nate Neuberger, attends the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He has told me how hard all classes are down there. I have been looking forward to college for way too long. I know there will be tons of new experiences for me and fun activities to be involved in. But school work is a big deal to me. I will have to put in the time needed to succeed in all my classes. English has never really been my forte. Hopefully, college bound will give me some more structure and background to persevere through my college essays. It will really come in handy when I am in college to be able to write college worthy essays without having to spend an immense about of time on each one of them. I know if I put in the effort this year in college bound to learn and truly understand how to write the correct essay it will pay off in my next four years while attending college.

I think college writing assignments will be difficult. In the end, difficult things are what will make you better. This is what helps you learn and grasp more concepts. Troublesome essays will require a lot of time and brain power. Rocking essays will help you land more jobs. Employers will be amazed if you can write a much better essay than your opponents. Professors will look profoundly at how well it is written. Skills that I would like to acquire are better variety with words, sentence structure, and adding things that stand out. I would like to dominate in college when it comes to essays. If I continue to exercise my skills, I think I could be come a better writer. This would be a major help when it will come to college essays. The three P’s are a big thing of what professors would love to see. Applying voice will help a lot in my opinion. It adds more connection to you and the subject. If I could apply those better, I think my essays would be much better. One of my friends from college said that every hour you spend in class is how much homework you will end up doing. Pay attention to what you write in high school cause it may apply in the same exact way in college. I looked through Dr. Kristi Siegel’s website and I was in awe! I was amazed at how many words I didn’t know. After reading it, it made me wonder how people can remember all of those difficult words. These difficult words made me realize that college is not going to be close to a cake walk. Right now I think having to know three types of lenses is a little on the difficult side. This website made me realize that right now this is the easy stuff!

College level writing assignments will be rigorous and brain picking. Expectations for me are very high for these scrolls of written ideas in my upcoming future. I hold college at a peaking high standard for academics and knowledge itself. Professors will and should push me to my absolute and infinite limits to try and get me thinking abstractly and using my lurking thoughts and hidden values to their fullest potentials. Assignments are going to be quite harsh, yet they will please my superego during the finale of my work because I will acknowledge that I consequently grasped my opportunity for potential and dominated it. I have a miniscule number of family members that actually have gone off to college, and my parents are the most recent ones to go to a university. They converse with me about how college is definitely a task that is challenging, and they constantly beat the words into my head that being enrolled in college will leave me far better off than not attending at all. High school English should work on preparing students for these type of situations and large expectations. Classes should be taught similar to classes in the college level, yet they should be fun and they should enlighten the students. To get people interested in a particular topic you must first draw them in, extract them from any negative progress, and then adopt them into a more meaningful situation. Professors in college know how to get attendants of their classroom interested in a written assignment by transforming the sterile topic and making it hit close to home to flourish into an essay that is abundant in a cornucopia of thoughts for every individual involved. I expect numerous abstract and substantial ideas to blossom throughout my vast galaxy of thoughts while I am institutionalized for four more years of my existence in a temporary niche that assists me in slowly climbing the social ladder that has been systematically erected in my pathway of life.

“Students focus on writing as a process to create correct and effective expository essays in response to culturally diverse sources”-this statement already makes me nervous about college writing assignments. The higher level thinking of college writing assignments will be my greatest challenge all throughout college. I am already assuming that my English class will be the most time consuming of all my courses. Professors will ask students to demonstrate critical thinking skills and an understanding of audience. The usage of strategies such as prewriting, drafting, revising, editing and proofreading will also be what professors expect from their students. I am hoping that College Bound will make an impact on my writing skills to assist me during college English. I need to learn how to write in much more detail this year. I am terrible at writing essays. Learning to organize all of my thoughts is tough for me to do. I would also like to learn how to make my essays flow better. My essays are always choppy and jump from one thing to the next. I am not always sure what to put in each paragraph either. I might have to read an essay aloud to my class and I am glad that we do the forum quizzes in class. The forum quizzes help me to speak out and express my thoughts and opinions in front of my classmates, which I do not always like doing because sometimes I feel stupid about what I say.

I think college writing assignments will have a lot of freedom and choices on what to do. I believe that you will be required to choose what to do over a topic such as government plans and then do anything on from there. They will be longer in length and will require more in depth detail and more sighting from resources than using your own knowledge. I think professors will demand that you know proper use of grammar such as punctuation.
They will want you to know how to properly site a source and look up information while making sure the information is true. You will need to know the mechanics of language, structure types of compositions grammar, and the creative writing process. We need to be able to think critically and analyze material. From friends and siblings I have heard that the assignments are lengthy. Most of them are longer than anything we have done in high school and you don’t always have a lot of time to complete them. For example my friend recently got assigned an assignment to write a 10 page pager over a government subject on Friday and it was due on the upcoming Monday. Also the information has to be 100% true and enough information to make it reliable. I think we need to continue analyzing essays, articles, and novels until we get a full understanding of how to do it so it comes as a second nature. We also need to work on ready more college literature and works so we know more of what to expect when we get there. We need to learn how to select and use proper information for the essays we are writing so we remove the clutter from our work. One of the most important things I think we need to work on is learning how to recognize and address mechanical deficiencies in our own writing.
Mitzel Pd. 6
I believe college writing assignments will be a lot like the ones in College Bound English. During the class Mr. C pushes us and shows us how colleges will want our essays. "No professor wants regurgitation of his notes, he wants creativity," says Mr. C. Everyday Mr. C tells us more information to keep us growing with knowledge. A lot of the ways we learn are new for me but that’s a good thing. Challenging myself and working with what I know will help me succeed as a student and throughout my life. In college, I believe they will want depth, creativity, proof, knowledge, and showing we care. If you care about your essays it will show in your writing. Collage English will push me, make me think how I haven't before, and make me stressed with thinking about writing a 2000 word essay. I like that Mr. C takes assignments from colleges around the area and helps us write their essays. Learning what colleges will want will help me relieve stress next year. In order to be successful in college, I need to work on ordering my information. I can always find out things I want to say but I tend to get repetitive and wordy. I also need to work on expanding my vocabulary.
I am the oldest child in my family to go off to college so I am not sure what to expect. From what I hear, classes get harder. You either show up or you don’t but if you do not show up, you will not have the information. College is all about you learning for yourself. There is no parent there telling me to do my homework and go to bed. There is only me directing my activities. My school work will come first to me. I really want to succeed and I believe College Bound English will benefit me greatly.
I researched SDSU. At the University, there are many different levels for English classes. You can study literature, writing, history, and different famous authors/poets. Every English class prepares you in a little different way. In English 151, and introductory English class, students will learn background and professional skills to read and write.

College writing assignments will not be easy and you definitely will not get your answers handed to you. Unlike high school, professors are not there to baby you and show you where to find the answers. You must think for yourself and think deeper than you usually would. The topics of the assignments may make no sense whatsoever and you may have no idea where to begin. Professors will demand you to use a larger vocabulary and will really make you show that you understand what you are talking about by backing it up with facts and worldly knowledge. Professors will want you to be opinionated and put much effort into every writing assignment you encounter. They want you to put passion in all that you write and expect a hundred percent effort out of all that you do. I know college writing assignments will be very challenging for me but I know that College bound will help me prepare and feel more confident in how I write my essays. This year is very vital in helping me prepare for what is to come in college. I am hoping that these essays we will write will help improve my vocabulary and grammar. I need to have the assurance to know that I am ready for college and if I do give my all I will succeed. Through the years I have heard both of my siblings complain about their however many page paper they have to write and how hard their classes are. I am not expecting college to be easy and I know that I need to give a hundred percent from the day I start to the day I walk across the stage. I looked at the CLA intro to students and found out that by grasping ideas and putting new vocabulary into your writing it will in time make you a superior and influential writer.

When I get into college I know for a fact I will need to start working harder to get good grades. I expect to get huge papers I need to write that aren’t easy. I am considering USD for a college for elementary education, If I’m going to make it there I need to improve my writing skills big time. As of now I’m not the best writer because when I write I ramble on about pointless things and I even write sentences twice. This year I want to work on sounding more scholarly on paper. I can tell one hell of a story but if I were to type one to you I may sound like Billy Bibbet. I also need to improve on inserting the correct punctuation in the right places. As you can tell I’m not that good of a writer I’m sure Mr. C could print this off and have a million red marks in two minutes. See I’m rambling on right now even to get to 300 words. Anyways I hope I can gain confidence in my writing skills and become better so I don’t only sound smart when I’m talking but on paper too.

I believing college professors will be wanting the absolute best from me while I am writing to them. I have so many things I need to improve on its not normal. My sisters both attended college and they write so much more educated than I do its crazy to me. I don’t understand half there words and there grammar and everything is just completely perfect. Its something I would like to have since I will be needing it later in life when I get a job so they will hire me. Professors want to see what we have learned from our high school experience, and if they don’t think its good I believe they will have a lot of doubt in our school and our staff. It is our job to learn as much as we can and to show that we are able to write and show them what we have learned. In college professors will probably throw away your paper if it is absolutely terrible and very uneducated, they are looking for someone who stands out, this is the time in your life that you want to decide what you do forever. Many of the assignments we will do will have to be very long, something I don’t like to do, I like to write it down and get to the point instead of losing interest in the topic right away. When I am in college I will need to step it up, also in high school so I know what I am doing while I am in college. I am not looking forward to writing a lot of essays and reports in college I am not much of a writer since I will always retype the same sentences numerous times and I will stutter many things that will not make sense to any viewer. Before I go to college I need to improve.

College writing assignments are going to be great at inducing thought for me. I have more ideas than I know what to do with, but when it comes to transferring them to paper; I'm about as successful as McMurphy is at seducing the Big Nurse. College professors' demands will be great, I'm sure of it. I think they will teach by asking questions as opposed to being straightforward and telling students what to write about. They'll leave the door wide open for us to take the assignment, and twist it to our own liking. That's what I'll do atleast. The thing I need to work on the most is my commitment to school. I feel these blog tasks and other various assignments will eventually persuade me to dedicate my all to each and every assignment propelled my way. When it comes to hearing from siblings/friends about college; I'm completely uninformed. Thinking about college makes me feel how I imagine Chief feels when the fog rolls in. Everything about everything collegate is very vague to me. Perhaps I'll be more inquisitive in my hunt for helpful information regarding college. I chose to examine SDSU's curriculum. SDSU offers many english courses such as these: Introduction to Peace and Conflict Studies, Introductoin to English Studies, Introduction to Literature, British Literature, American Literature, and more. I would be most interested in taking Introduction to Peace and Conflict Studies. I chose this class because I'd be interested in delving deeper into the difficult-to-decode subject that is "Peace".

The assignments we will receive in college are definitely reflected by what we are studying in College Bound. Being able to analytically look through the lenses, both the ones we have used and some that we are not familiar with, and by reading critically. Professor’s will strive to make sure we use our full potential to perceive the writer’s main goal in their exhibit and also some other details that they are trying to portray in their work. We must use our minds but without any passion we will simply be another paper that they fell asleep reading at night. We should all strive to be the writer that makes our professors think in new ways and have them on the edge of their seat with our writing. I feel that I personally need to work on being more descriptive in my writing. This may be that I need more adjectives to give my writing a better flavor but also in the research I put into writing. I think that as a populace we need to seize all the knowledge we have gained over the year and blend it all together so that we are not simply completing an assignment due the next day, but to become the authors that we all are capable of being218. I also need to be clearer with the points that I am making in my writing even if it is something as simple as who has said what. When I think about the future, college and what lies behind that, I hope that I will use the tools I learn now and hereafter to better myself. I do not believe my mind is something to be sculpted to the ideas of others but rather a chisel itself. As I learn from these classes and experiences it becomes sharper, hopefully sharp enough to the point that one day I will be able to sculpt the minds around me.

College writing assignments will be similar to what we are doing now I believe but even more in depth than what is expected of us in your class. You’ve been talking about how many students have just taken essays that they have written in college bound and polished them up a bit to hand back in at college. As time goes on different topics will have to be analyzed more in depth as is anything that you do in school. Hopefully they never become easy and I will always be challenged to do my best on every topic. Professors on the other hand will demand more out of my peers and me than we would even think would matter in any such topic, challenging us nearly to our breaking point. Professors will be hard and scrutinize my essays and give me the grade that they see fit for the depth and “outside of the box” analysis. This year I hope to be able to handle the unexpected that comes with a college course, professors may not give me resources to look at and help me. I want to be able to write an essay that shows you know what you are talking about no question about it, without grammatical mistakes and no sense sentences. I’ve heard a few things about how a college course is, it depends sometimes you get credit on speaking up and talking about your own ideas, your opinion on the subject. Also though it’s just like class now with you, the deeper you analyze and dig into the authors mind and see what clues he/she has left, the better off your grade will be. Hopefully by the end of this year I will be ready to handle anything in a college course from an analytical standpoint and just whats to be expected in any course for that matter.
I looked at USD’s website. They offer many English courses so I just picked “Introduction to Criticism,” A writing-intensive course in analyzing and interpreting literature it includes instruction in critical approaches to literature and research tools. Which is basically what we are doing now.

When I think of my college English classes, I think of College Bound English with a shot of steroids. I know Mr. C is doing all he can in his power to prepare us for our future, and it helps that he has his resources and experiences to help us relate. I think the assignments can be very relatable to our College Bound assignments but the professors are going to be wanting more without saying it. The professors are going to want the same passion, polish, and proof that we are writing in our essays now, but as professors, they will be less leanient and more strict-like which is what we will need at that collegiate level. I feel that I need to work on becoming more confident in my writing. I love to write about almost any topic because I love to put my twist on things and let my passion shine through in that. I think in order for me to become more confident in my writing, I just need to continue writing and constantly get it critiqued in a manner that will help and not hurt me. I know professors will try and do their best in getting me to that point as well as Mr. C will, but it is also me that needs to put the effort in in order to get the professor to help as well. I am attending the University of Sioux Falls and as a freshman there, it is mandatory to take the USF Experience Classes which consist of intro to theology, into to the bible, 111 writing & intelectual I, and others. “In Writing and Intellectual Traditions I, students explore works and culture from ancient Greece through the Reformation. I believe that assignments in a college course will be intellectually difficult. Much like College Bound English the course will be challenging and engaging. These courses will inspire us to use every ounce of knowledge we have and on top of that add some to it. There will be a lot of in and out side of class time put into the course and the professors will demand of us to show them what we are learning and what we have learned from our high school classes. They will not remind us every day to do an assignment, they will expect us to know it and to study it on our own time and come to class prepared for what will be happening in the next class. College professors will expect us to be used to the “real” world by the time we are in college and act like adults so we are treated like adults. We will be expected to think outside of our box and put ourselves in someone else’s shoes in our writing.
In this year I am hoping to learn how to be a better writer and not to do only the bare minimum. I also hope to get better at literary devices and understanding them better. My sister Allison has just recently graduated from college in the spring and she has told me that your class helped prepare her for her English classes in college. She tells me that in college most of your work is on your own and you rarely get time to do it in class, much like in your class. College professors will not have all of the one on one time with a student as they do in high school, which will also be a challenge for students who ask a lot of questions. Professors will not walk you through all of the steps it takes to becoming a good student, they will want you to problem solve and to make your own conclusions.

I think college writing assignments will be time consuming, and also mind consuming. Meaning, we will need to go through everything in our brains and lots more to write with the best abilities we can. I think college writing assignments will be pretty long and be like College Bound English 12 but more in depth, more polished, and more passionate. I also think in order to these assignments we will have to do lots of studying and research so we can make our papers the best we can. I think the professors will demand my commitment and my desire to do well in their class everyday. They will expect more than my best because if you are trying more than your best it should out come in the very best. I think we should work on the skills that the professors will be expecting us to know. For example syntax, vocabulary, how to write with passion and other things that are necessary for a paper to be the best. If we can learn to dominate these skills now I think we will dominate or at least survive in college. From what I have heard from my relatives in college is that the classes there demand a lot more of your time. The homework is increased from maybe 1 hour in high school to about 3 hours in college. Also those to do well on a test you have to study for at least 9 hours sometimes. I definitely think that college homework will be pretty much a job. You will be required to put all your time and effort into your homework to do well. I think that colleges will not just try to make you good students but they will make you scholars. I am glad we have a teacher that seems to be very well educated and can take what he knows and imply that knowledge into us so we can thrive and dominate in college.

I believe that college writing assessments will be very rigorous and a step above what we do in college bound this year. Professors will demand that we write with passion and polish our essays. Also the professors will demand us to think deeper about topics in which our essays are based upon. From my sister and friends I have gain knowledge in the areas that college professors base there classes. My sister would spend countless hours writing paper after paper. She also enlightened me about what college English courses are really like. College English courses require you to have already obtained the basic information in high school English courses, so you can use that information to better yourself in college. If you do not have these skills classes will be much harder, because college professors do not hold hands as much as high school teachers do. But on that note high school this year is very beneficial because the courses that can be taken significantly prepare you for college. I researched South Dakota State University’s English 151: Introduction to English Studies, in this class they read literature and analyze it critically just like we do in college bound. They also write essays about poetry, novels, and films and dissect deeper meanings to them. I believe that college bound will greatly prepare us for college because almost everything we do is based upon what colleges throughout the area study. College bound English has also helped me to become a better student and to write in a scholarly way. My writing has definitely improved from previous courses in high school was not as well thought out and well written as it has been this year. You, Mr. C. do a phenomenal job to prepare us for domination in college and in our future.

I hope to attend Augustana College and did some research of expectations in the English department. I wasn’t surprised to find that they have very high expectations much like College Bound English 12. The students there are introduced to a wide variety of writers as well as different writing styles. Students read novels from the masters of American and British literature. They explore feminist writing and writing from different countries such as India, China, or Ireland. The teachers want their students to develop creative writing skills through different experiences. Conventional novels as well as experimental novels like One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest are those expected to help develop writing creativity. Workshops classes are taken in different varieties of writing styles such as poetry, fiction, drama, and creative nonfiction. The professors don’t just want you to spit out words that you have heard from the mouths of others, but they want you to learn and develop yourself from personal experience. If you can be familiar with different types and styles of writing you can take what you have learned and apply it to your own writing. Don’t just regurgitate thoughts you have written down from others, but from those thoughts begin to form your own thoughts and see where they take you. I feel like College Bound 12 is helping me develop these skills and making me a better writer and thinker. I am learning to analyze and understand the meaning behind different novels and their themes. Instead of just reading the book and thinking nothing of what the combine symbolizes or the significance of Bromden’s hallucinations. I want to be prepared and feel as though I will be by the end of the year. I have learned so much just from Cuckoo’s Nest alone I can’t wait to dig into some more novels and learn what they all mean. Augustana provides a fantastic learning curriculum and their English/Literature department is no exception. They believe curiosity is a major key to being successful in the writing world. If you can ask questions about what you are observing and think critically you will continue to learn. I am excited to understand and analyze a wide variety of different literature successfully.

I think that college writing assessments will be like College Bound English. The whole point of this class is to prepare us for college. Hence, the name College Bound English. However, college will be more intense and harder because it is a higher level class. Professors will want us to do our best. They want us to think outside of the box. Professors want us to think about stuff that we have never thought of. They hope that we can use what they teach us in essays along with our own opinion. What I need to work on this year in order to do better in college in English is be able to transition better in essays. I also think that one of my weaknesses is expressing my own opinion in essays. I can do it, but not very well. When I heard at the beginning of the year that we were going to analyze “The Lion King”, I thought that was weird and pointless. But after watching it and analyzing it, I realized that it wasn’t stupid. I liked doing that because I got to think about stuff that I would never have thought about before. I found for English 220 at SDSU, they are going to analyze “Beauty and the Beast”. They are going to do this because there are many issues in this movie that reappear in various literary works. I think this is cool. I like this kind of stuff because I get to think about stuff I would have never thought of before. I also found that in college they expect you to be able to use a computer. What I like about what is said in the syllabus for English 220, is that they want to find out whether students can learn and appreciate literature in a better manner than what is usually done in classes of “Intro to Lit” by using technology.

Next year I would like to attend USD. I was looking for a syllabus made by Dr. Brian Bedard because I was interested in seeing what I had to look forward too. I was unable to find one created by him. I was able to find one written by Marlen Harrison at this website: http://marlenharrison.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=15&Itemid=1. So far I have thoroughly enjoyed your class Mr. C. I feel that I will be well prepared for college next year as I read through the syllabus made by Marlen Harrison. I have never really enjoyed any of the English classes I have taken. I like the change of pace in College Bound; I feel as if my papers and my opinion matters. Not only do we analyze and write papers in class, but you, Mr. C analyze what we write and help us to get better. The college assignments listed on the syllabus are very similar to the ones you are having us write. There are many blog assignments that will have to be completed throughout the year. I believe the amount of words expected for the blogs will be higher and will challenge me to share my own opinion more and continue to analyze more in depth. In college English classes there will be chances for peer editing in class which we will be graded on. Participation in college English will be vital to successfully pass the class. Attending these English classes will also determine the grade I have in that class.
Danielle Granberg continued....
Without attending the class I don’t earn the participation points and I don’t learn how to correctly complete the assignments. College professors also make visiting the Writing Centers important, because they argue if students do not their grade will be docked, and it only makes sense for students to go because it is a free opportunity to make their writing better. In college I know professors will only expect my best. I know that you also expect my best work, so I hope it will be easy to continue this. I feel with the pressure put on me by professors will cause me to fail, but from failing I will push through and will then complete works at the highest level they are capable of being.
Reading Facebook posts from last years seniors have taught me the new information I am learning this year will be used next year in almost every paper or homework assignment I complete. My sister, a graduate from Black Hills State University also completed many of these similar assignments listed on Marlen Harrison’s syllabus and also ones we have completed in College Bound, in her college English courses. I know during her years at college she completed many essays analyzing novels and completing blogs.
I feel I have problems with finding topics to analyze. When I write my essays I think it is more appropriate to regurgitate the notes back to you, because I feel they are the only correct part of my writing. I feel the most help I need with my writing skills is finding creative ways to share my opinions and feel they will suffice and that they will be able to persuade you.
Edwards p.7
I believe that college writing will be challenging and time consuming. I also think that most writing assignments will be analyzing highly opinionated topics. Professors will demand perfection with these assignments some i think will not even accept them if they are not formatted right. Also they will want students to write smoothly and passionately. I have heard different things from my siblings and friends. But for the most part they have told me that most writing assignments are long, strenuous, and require a lot of research and studying. Some of these assignments get into the double digits for page length. This year I will have to work on transitioning from sentence to sentence. I will also have to work on not using the same words often. This I believe will help me to achieve a good grades in college when it comes to writing essays. I am sure though that there are many other things that I need to work on besides those things. Professors will be looking for a lot of things in papers besides those things. They will be looking to see how far in depth we go into our topics. This will cause the assignments to not be easy and students will not be able to just write them without doing any research. Students will not be able to sit down one night and say, "I think I'm going to write my entire assignment tonight." I believe these assignments will take multiple days for the most part. So the best thing to do right now is to prepare and practice in high school.

I can only imagine that college writing assignments will be of a higher level, and intensity than the assignments of College Bound English, though similar in content. A greater understanding will be required from me as I expand my knowledge base, all the time utilizing the knowledge I have already obtained in more intricate and encompassing ways. I hope to find a higher challenge in these assignments, as I also hope to make full use of my English knowledge.
I would think that the professors would demand only the very best, which means devoting my full attention to my work, and using what I have learned productively. I personally feel that a professor would expect nothing less of their students to write or produce something far below their standards let alone theirs. Though this concept of perfection is somewhat intimidating, I must have full confidence in my mind, and my abilities to 'step up to the plate' and perform my very best, not just to prove to my professors that I can full fill the assignments, but to prove to myself.
Professors also expect sources to be fully researched, in a variety of ways. In researching this topic of English/composition syllabus; I have seen numerous sites of English/composition courses. They have all been comparatively similar with minor differences depending on the professor. It appears that, no matter the location, the tasks are parallel, including writing with correct grammar, analysing, synthesizing, drawing your own conclusions, and being able to make a good argument for what you believe in. I believe that professors find the personal input of their students to be inspiring, and important. Thus, a greater display of understanding, and knowledge is paramount to achieving a high grade. I have numerous friends in college who can attest to, and have helped form this belief, that speaking up and openly discussing topics, along with participating in group sessions, can set me on the road to higher grades.

I believe that in college writing assignments will be much the same as those we write in college bound. The essay’s we write in college bound however are probably graded more lenient than those of a college course because professors are pickier about your skills in writing. Although much of the essays we write in college bound we can and will use in college because they are much the same as the ones in college English/Compositions classes. In college bound we are required to write with passion and proof, these qualities are extravagantly important to being successful in your writing skills. Much as the same as college bound English professors in college will be looking for original ideas, formatting, good descriptive words, and most of all passion in the essay you are writing. I think that this year we will have to prepare in the following manner: get the correct MLA formatting, writing with passion and proof, with correct grammatical and syntax variety, and to finally make sure you have original ideas and do not copy right any material. I have talked to many of my friends in college and they have informed me that to be successful in college you must be attentive and study. Also you must have more class participation and speaking up in class is made up of most of the grading. While looking at the coarse studies I looked at English 151: Introduction to English Studies, which is taught by Dr. Jason McEntee at SDSU. This is a class for first year English majors and prepares them for background and professional skills in writing. In this class you are required to read critically and write analytically about literary texts. He requires all students to use MLA format and writes mainly on readings from poetry, fiction, and drama.

I believe college writing assignments will be harder if not easier to write than high school writing assignments. We have not yet learned all the necessary information needed to write an adequate college paper. But we do have the knowledge to write an adequate high school paper. A college paper will have detail and personality and a high school paper only hopes to touch that potential of our personalities. They will call for intensity and knowledge which we will have by the time we enter and by the time we exit college. I hope my college experience will help me learn these qualities and more. Some qualities are to put you in the writing, make it come alive. Writing should be personal it should make you laugh, cry, smile, and become angry with the words and thoughts of the writer. Let your imagination run wild when writing. We need to put personal experience along with hopes and expectations in the writing so we others can fully appreciate and comprehend our writing style and knowledge. I have learned from my older brother, Chris, that in order to be a great student in college you have to be a good student in high school. He tells me not to slack off in high school because what you do in high school in compliance with school work and habits will follow with you into college if not then you will create better or worse habits. I hope to have my college experience be as great as yours, Mr. C. Unfortunately we are not all you. If we were we would be clones and that’s not good for the system. Our individualism would show through our writings. I hope to become a music education teacher for early childhood courses. That is my goal and premise of writing and performing.

I have always wanted to attend South Dakota State University and more than likely will next fall. With many friends at SDSU, I have gotten a general overview of what classes, including English classes, are like and how they are different from high school courses. My friends tell me that the biggest difference between high school and college is the amount of time you have to put into your school work. I’ll be honest, I hardly ever study for anything right now and I’m afraid that will hurt me when I get to college so I am working on it. They also tell me about the papers and how important they are. You have to be very descriptive and are required to write at a higher/more intellectual level. Papers can vary anywhere from 2-12 pages long I hear and require a lot of time and thought. Professors will demand that we use syntax, care about our writing, give your best effort, and write the paper if the format they have requested. Friends have told me that the assignments are rigorous yet achievable. It’s really about how good of a grade you want. If you want to write an A paper you will put in the time to make it as good as it possibly can be. If you want a C or a D paper you will rush and do it the night before which doesn’t do any good. I think we should work on putting meaning into our college papers. I also hear that many students feel that you (Mr. C) have prepared them for college more than any other teach has because you give them essays they can use at college, many being A papers. I already feel like I can write better and more descriptive than I could in the past and it’s only been one quarter. I cannot wait to further understand how to add passion and detail to my college papers and to achieve what I am capable of.

College professors will demand in depth reasoning, personal opinion, truth, and passion. When they assign a topic that you are free to write about they want you to put yourself into your writing. Put your opinions and feelings into the statements that you are giving. I believe that the professors will give a topic and say here write about it. There will be a specific topic your essay should revolve around, but they leave lots of room for you to make it personal and expand. I think that a lot of what Mr. C is teaching and the style he teaches it will follow us into a college professor’s classroom. The class is called “College Bound”. It is preparing us for what is to be expected when we reach the college level. Why would Mr. C teach us something that did not match the criteria for college when that is what we are preparing for? I personally need to work on not being so vague. I need to learn how to get in depth and really create an image in the readers mind. I also need to work on confidence in my writing. I am so worried that the topic I choose to write about might not be what is expected or I am afraid that it won’t be as good as someone else’s. I have a friend in college and I have asked several times what they think of it and his answer never changes. He says he loves it in college, but it is difficult. So I’m doing everything in my power to prepare. College bound English has made me feel like I’m partially ready. More ready than I was. I recently looked over many SDSU professors’ course syllabuses and they do things almost exactly how we are doing things in college bound. The criteria that they expect sounds very familiar.

After talking to my sister and researching on the Winona State website I did get a little nervous thinking about the next year ahead of me. My sister said her classes at USF are extremely difficult and she sometimes has to spend hours on homework a night for just one class. My sister however did not take College Bound English. She chose to take English 12, which she said she does regret because she felt less prepared and sometimes inadequate in her classes. Although now she is doing great, it took her a little while to get adjusted to her new rigorous reading and writing schedule. When she told me that I felt so much better, because I really do feel like in class we get an extremely valuable inside look into real college classes and we also get the help to succeed in our future English classes. What I expect out of my College writing and English classes are difficult, thought-inducing long assignments that may take days to prepare and still not be good enough. Professors will demand great sentence structure, perfect grammar and flawless spelling. The reason they expect these things, is because hopefully we were adequately prepared in high school to be able to start right out of the gates in College and prepare an impressive essay. The skills that I would most like to practice and prepare for next year would be writing with a persuasive edge to really get my point across but do it with proper sentence structure and grammar so I can really make my point heard. Introduction to College Writing: Intensive writing practice with special focus on the fundamentals of sentence and paragraph structure. This is a course description I found on the Winona State University website in the English department. I saw it and I wasn’t too surprised because that’s what I anticipated and hope to be able to achieve this year so I can be an exceptional writer when I reach my freshmen year in college. I believe College Bound English is the perfect class for students who want to further their education after high school.

College writing assignments will be about five or more pages on a topic that they will most likely pick a topic for us that we are studying. They will be looking for good syntax when you write your essay. They would like the sentences to be more than simple sentences they will be looking for compound complex sentences. You will be expected to write many essays during the course for the year. Professors will also demand you use the most complex words that you know, they would like you to know as much words that you can learn. Professors will demand you to get all your homework done on time other wise they would not except the homework anymoreThe skills I need to learn are how to spell words correctly and to learn how to do syntax. What I have heard about college is that you are expected to write many essays during the school year. I heard from my older brother that most professor expect the assignment the day it is due. If you become a dorm sloth you have a greater chance at failing college then if you study, in the long run if you study you have a greater chance at getting the job you enjoy. When I pass this class I know that I will be able to enjoy going to a school most of my friends have never heard about because they do not want to become chefs. I have heard that it is better to go to college right after high school than wait a year or two because if you wait you are more likely to never go to college, plus my older brother said that college was fun. He said that the professors really helped him become a better business man, so that he could become manger an any place he wanted to go to.

I think the college writing assignments will be about history or something we are learning about at that time that we have to research. I don’t think that it will be about things we are very interested in. They will make us write papers on what happened in the 1970s, and about things that happened so long ago that we will never care about unless we are a history buff. We need to write about things that matter and things that are affecting us today or maybe the future because we are the future. We will one day be running the country so we should try to figure out who we really are and what we believe before that happens. I think professors will demand college students to write profoundly and use scholarly words. I feel they will not like us to use non descriptive words and have no passion, polish, or proof. They will want us to think outside the box rather than inside. They will challenge us, make us think, and wonder what we should base our life and beliefs on. If we don’t wonder what could be then we never would have had the light bulb, warm houses, electricity, computers, or even cars. If no one challenges themselves to think or be more sophisticated human beings, we would have none of this stuff. We would still be cave people roaming around with no type of order, rules or even society. We would be like animals trying to find some food to survive. College is what will make us be a better us. I have heard that there is a lot of writing and hardly any grades. If you fail one quiz or test you will not get better than a B for your grade. You will have to really study and push yourself to do and try your very best.

I am very interested in attending SDSU, and there are a lot of English classes to choose from. The first thing I noticed while looking into the various English classes is that they all describe various opportunities for English and History or other types of classes mixed in. You may choose to take an English class that only focuses on English literature or one on composition. There are also many classes offered on American and European Literature or on Women in Literature. In Dr. Woodard’s class, his students will come face to face with “historical and contemporary debates within the discipline of Peace and Conflict Studies.” You may also decide to take a class with Dr. Palo, which would distinctly focus on literary studies and also teach you about the Marxist, feminist, queer, multicultural, and postcolonial theories. You may also choose to take a class with Mr. Haug. Most of his classes focus on readings in fiction, drama, and poetry to acquaint students with literature and aesthetic form. So far this year, I think that we have definitely hit on a lot of the things that this syllabus covers. College Bound is already showing us the different opportunities that college is going to have for us, and if we don’t prepare ahead of time, our chances for success in a college English course is somewhat unlikely. But if we continue to push on like we have so far, I think that each and every one of us are going to be ready for anything that comes in our future. Most, if not all English classes in college require you to use many critical lenses and know how to write intelligently. If that doesn’t sound like college bound, I don’t know what would. If we/I continue to press on for the rest of the year, I know that I will be able to impress my college professors with the knowledge I have gained from taking College Bound.

An M.A. Program at SDSU
If you are to enter the M.A. Program in English at South Dakota State you must have 24 semester hours minimum of undergraduate English and at least a 3.25 in English. Two options are presented, option A (Thesis) or option C (non-thesis), where under the first option the student is required to do 30 hours of graduate work in one of the listed items, including 6 hours of thesis. At least 20 hours must be residence. The student will present their thesis which gives results of research directed by a faculty member of an English background. For oral exams, the student is required to defend their thesis and to demonstrate knowledge relative to coursework. Under option C, the student is required to complete 36 coursework hours in English, with successful completion of written exams under the Graduate Coordinators direction followed.
Two areas of Option A include:
Studies in Literature, which is 24 semester credits in lit with a minimum of two courses in English literature and two American Literature and six hours of thesis. This is recommended for the students who’s plans are to continue toward a Ph.D. degree in literature to if they want to enter college or community college teaching.
Another area is Studies in Language and Rhetoric, which is also 24 semester credits which deals mostly with composition, rhetoric, criticism, and linguistics with an additional six hours of thesis work required. This is also well suited to those students who are planning to teach in a community college or for those whose interests are in pursuiting a Ph.D. degree in rhetoric or linguistics.
This class requires a good bit of intellect but it is a very good class for those wishing for a future career in English teaching.

I assume that college writing assignments would be vague in description, but would require an intricate and detailed response. The professor, in my opinion, will want your thesis, and then a full and detailed explanation on your part defending your claim. It will require mindful thinking as it should, and I think through the college writing assignments it will help the writer understand where he/she stands on a variety of topics. I believe professors would demand that you are knowledgeable in what you are writing of, that you are speaking your mind, that you use correct grammar/punctuation/spelling, that you are being original (for sure), that you put forth an effort, and that you write something worth reading. I would like to work on my understanding of punctuation that isn't used very often (colons, semicolons, dashes, hyphens) and when is it necessary or appropriate. I would also like to continue to be exposed to new vocabulary, become a better writer, expand my knowledge of literary devices, and be able to incorporate the new vocabulary and more literary devices into my writings. My sister attending Augustana says that her teacher is a very nice young man who relates to his students quite well, although it is much more difficult than she thought it would be. She says that instead of multiple grades like high school, they have three major grades over a period of time that will determine the semester grade. She goes on to say that the professor grades in such a way that it seems as though he assumes that his students have all taken a college writing class, and are all more than capable writers that should continually be producing intelligent essays. The essays require length, and must be thoughtful throughout, not filled with useless sentences to lengthen the essay.

I would imagine that through the experiences of english based courses in college, I would become an adequate scholar in the eyes of our society. Upon reading the syllabi of a college I wish to attend, I have discovered that I will primarily be practicing how to use, research, and document English correctly for academic writing purposes. The syllabus also includes details that critical thinking is a must. So in my eyes, the college bound course I am currently taking as a Senior in high school, is a great representation of what college professors will expect of me when trying to challenge my abilities and push me to my full potential. Many of the higher educative courses I have to take in college require a "research report" in order to be a part of that class. Also in the syllabus, it says that I will be using a variety of academic and non-academic texts which will widen my sense of thinking about the world around me. The syllabus also states we will argue "rhetorical structures", which is where I will compares two contrasting options, and indicates positive regard for one of them. This will allow me to express my ideas to others while allowing myself to soak in creative ideas the other scholarly pupils in my class have created. Through studying online and developing a conclusion, I have concluded that a proffesor expects me to put forth my best effort in learning how to write with correct grammar, analize data with all lenses, collaborate data with my own ideas, draw my own conclusion, and be able to make a good argument using the information I have gathered. Below is the web page for the description of the classes at "South Dakota School of Mines"

I believe my college writing assessments will be similar to yours Mr. C. You teach us scholarly ways so we can achieve the greatest in college. You are teaching us the best way you can, by teaching us how you learned while in college. These professors I will have will demand the best out of me just as you do. They will strive to have me think, write, act and analyze the way you and they do. I will need to work on polishing and syntax probably to achieve this goal. I have the determination and the passion for writing and stating what I believe but me believing it’s the best can be different from me to you to my professors in college. I have heard college English is much harder than plain old English in high school. Some of my friends have not graduated from Brandon Valley or even a South Dakota school. They haven’t had the chance to experience college bound English with you or even at all. The ones I know that have graduated from BV have said that your class Mr. C has prepared them for college English. You already taught them to speak up during forum quizzes and taught us syntax and are teaching us to polish our writings. You have already taught me to go into a “deeper” level of thinking and to not accept the “usual” or “obvious” concepts right away. Mr. C you have already expected me to write and answer passionately to the best of my abilities. I know I can do it but you help encourage us as will our professors hopefully will. All of the teachers in Brandon are trying to prepare us for our next journey in our careers. Whether it is for a better ACT score so we can attend college and do well in college or just prepare us by telling us what to expect. Showing us how writing should be done and how to solve the right quadratic equations. We already have a step over those who haven’t had the chance to learn these techniques. Although English courses in college may be harder we still have the background work and can sliver our way through the systems to achieve our goals.

I think that College Writing assignment will be extremely time consuming. I hope to either Attend STI or a college in Kansas. I have a few friends that attend college in Kansas that have informed me that the class is much different then High school classes, especially the English. I was talking to my friend about what it is like to write a paper for her English class. She told me they take a lot of your time but are very important. It is also worth your time. What I expect to get out of College writing assignments is much reward and the further ability to build my knowledge in that area. I think the professors will be just as strict but maybe less because in college (depending where you go) they don’t take the time to make sure you turn you work in. I am honestly excited to start all that. I believe the Professors will demand much of what is demanded out of me from college bound. I think what is to be expected out of our papers will be, Passion, length, high vocabulary and genuine writing. I think the writing assignments in college will be a more lengthier and specific. The professors will expect intelligent and for us to be knowledgeable of our topics. I don’t assume college assignments will be easy at all. I also thing professors will demand commitment and desire to do my best. In class to get prepared for the future I think if we can dominate good writing skills and big vocabulary I think we will be on a good start. I think the more we write now and learn how to better ourselves the better off we will be in college. I hope to be able to write an essay with no struggles and have it be to my best ability and an awesome one at that.

The biggest change for me when I go to college is how much time I will put into my homework. I know that next year bigger things are expected from all of us. I have looked over a syllabus from SDSU and have seen that is similar to what we are doing in our class. College writing assignments will be both challenging and time consuming. Our thinking will be tested on a higher level. We will have to care and put passion into what we write in order to earn a good grade. Professors will expect nothing but the best on each and every paper. We will be required to think much harder and deeper on our topics. Backing up our opinions with reasoning, facts, and examples will be key to how well we do. Professors will demand pages of writing with passion. I believe if we learn how to do it this year, next year will be not as hard. I must work on expanding my thoughts with as much detail as possible. I sometimes don’t write as much because of this. I believe College Bound has challenged how I think a lot this year. I know Mr. C would not have us analyzing and thinking about stuff that wouldn’t be useful in the future. I have talked to quite a few people who say what we do in this class is similar to what they do in college this year. Hopefully and I believe we will all benefit from what we study this year. http:/www.sdstate.edu/engl/courses/fall.cfm

I believe that college English classes will be a lot similar to the College Bound English class I and many others are taking right now. They will urge you to think outside of the box and possibly write papers that you may thought you would never write about. Who knows maybe some, including myself, will find out that they actually have potential in writing good material. I think professors will demand everything out of you. They want you to succeed and give forth your best effort. Professors are not there to do the work for you, they want you to fend for yourself and see what you are capable of doing on your own. Their expectations are definitely going to be high. This year I personally would like to work and focus on my grammar and vocabulary when writing essays. I think it would help me tremendously in the future. Also I don’t want to just write the words on paper, I want to be able to have passion and excitement with the words I write. Everyone’s personality should come out through their own words. By taking College Bound I think all these things are possible to get us ready for the future ahead of us. It’s absolutely not going to be the easiest thing. But easy doesn’t get you anywhere. Hard work and effort will get you the farthest in life. English 112 Introduction to Poetry and Drama is offered at Mankato. It is the study and analysis of elements of poetic and dramatic literature in English including translations, from earlier periods through contemporary. Also English 101 Composition is another English class offered to students. Students will practice strategies for generating and developing ideas, locating and analyzing information, analyzing audience, drafting, writing sentences and paragraphs, evaluating drafts, revising, and editing in essays of varying lengths. This is a prime example of what College Bound English is getting us ready for!

To begin this response, Mr. Christensen, I will shamelessly stoke your ego by saying that college English courses, I expect, will be much like your class. From a cursory look at the Naval Academy English department class descriptions (found, for your convenience, here: http://www.usna.edu/acdean/courses/HE.html) most of the syllabus appears surprisingly similar to our current lesson plans; I.E. reading great literature, analyzing it, writing essays, and expanding literary consciousness. There, I imagine that my professors will demand that I challenge myself daily through the comprehension of difficult texts, the writing of vibrant and forceful essays, and the thorough, comprehensive and detailed analysis of great literary works. The work load will most likely be demanding and rigorous, testing to the limit my time management and intellectual endurance, but still, I look forward to it with optimism. Rarely is a man presented the daily opportunity to elevate himself to greater heights than he has yet before achieved, and I feel that college level English courses will allow me to do just that. In addition to this, I eagerly anticipate the mentally stimulating and consciousness enriching literature that will be offered because, and I cannot iterate this with enough forcefulness, I simply adore reading. From my cursory conversations with my father about his college English experiences, I also feel that the quality of my experience will greatly depend on my professor and classmates. To prepare for this, I feel that I would benefit most from improving my knowledge and awareness of syntax, polishing my essay writing skills (especially with reference to time, as I have trouble writing to my ability when pressured by time constraints), and reading more of the literary cannon so as to make my knowledge base as broad as possible. College, to me, will be a time of liberation, of freedom, of hard work and dedication and may, quite possibly, be the time of my life.

I have a hard time imagining what a college course in college will be like. Mostly I believe it will be like what I see in movies. These images include people sleeping in class and drooling all over desks and then the smarts kids stressing out about every single word that is coming out the professor’s mouth. I believe I will be the one that is neither sleeping but I definitely will not be the one that lingers on to every single word that the professor has to say. I believe that the writing assignments will be a lot like what you, Mr. C, have assigned to use with our essays. They will challenge our minds and stimulate thoughts out of our young minds. The professor will only do this as Mr. C does to help us in our future lives with our careers that will earn us the money to pay off the students loans that we accumulated while taking these college English courses. Professors will most likely expect nothing but the less from us. He will make everyone think and make us go further outside our boxes. This year I will need to work on my whole approach on writing papers and not procrastinating on assignments. I will also need to work on not rambling when I do not know what else to say. My other downfalls include not being able to know when my sentences have gone on for too long and are becoming a run on.
My sister and I really don’t talk about her college classes. I do know though that she spends most of her nights on writing papers and rewriting papers. Courtney, my sister, is a perfectionist though and everything has to be right in order for her to be able to have an acceptable paper in her eyes. I hope that being in this College Bound English class that I will be ready for college.
Jane Sickler Period 6
For college, I will most likely be attending Mankato State. I believe this will give me a great education as well as an awesome location to live. I honestly don’t know what to expect for college writing assignments. My brother, Matt, and other step-siblings have told me that college is much harder than high school; “you actually have to try”, but they have never said what kind of writing they do/did. I do think college English classes will expect quite a bit more than high school English classes. I believe and hope my future English class(es) will be much like that of Mr. C’s. For the first time in an English class, I feel I am being challenged for the better; this thinking involves actual involvement instead of just remembering the answer(s) for a test. I believe my professors will demand me to take my past experiences and use them in my writing. I believe they will demand me to relate myself to my writing; not just write to get the assignment done (especially over a topic I may not have that much knowledge on) I truly feel Mr. C knows and wants the best for us, and is willing to go through this much work to make our lives a better /happier one.
Multiple times I have searched Mankato’s, Augie’s, and USD’s guidelines and classes online and through letters in the mail. This has been one of the toughest academic choices I have ever had to make. I do, however, feel Mankato will be close to perfect for me. Even though I do not plan on going into English writing/studying in college, I believe my English classes in college will definitely help me to be a better teacher someday. Teaching has been something I’ve wanted to do since I was a little girl; that and modeling - not going to happen though! I made up my mind about 2 years ago, after losing my best friend. Through a very special email to me, she told me I would be a great teacher someday, and I don’t think she even knew I wanted to be a teacher. This confirmed all my doubts on what I wanted to be “when I grew up”.

After entering the site for SDSU and finding the correct location and information I needed I found that most College English classes will almost be identical to College Bound English 12 We are currently taking. There are some differences including the fact that the professors wont let you off the hook if you do not get your work in on time and that you have to devote large portion of you time at college to the school work that your given by those professors. College writing assignments will be both very much both time consuming and mentally stimulating. Assignments will be required to be written with passion and proof if you expect to get a passing grade. Professors will expect nothing but the best from us knowing that we want to continue and be successful when we finish. We will be asked and required to challenge ourselves buy taking on the more difficult tasks and topics. I know that Mr. C teaches us with the same style and has some of the same expectations as a college professor would. Mr. C know what he is talking about when he tells us what colleges will be expecting of us, to write with scholarly vocabulary and persuasive syntax. I have spoken with some of my friends and my brother who attend SDSU and they tell me time and time again that if I pay attention in College Bound and really get to know and understand what is being taught I will certainly succeed when it comes time to perform in a college environment and I will be able to impress the professors who assign these scholarly tasks. When it comes time for college I am certain that I will be ready to succeed and blow away professors who have doubts about me. http:/www.sdstate.edu/engl/courses/fall.cfm

Honestly I will have to say that I have no idea what college writing assignments will be like, or college in that matter. I have heard from some friends that college is fun, easy, a breeze. It very may well be fun but it will only be “easy” if I work to make the best of it. I did search up SDSU for some sort of syllabus. I found that there is an outline of the class and what it is about and how you will go about assignments. I appreciate that Mr. C is having us write these assignments because I saw it’s mostly the same stuff we are doing right now as SDSU and USD are doing also right now. I can probably say I will appreciate it even more when I am in college. We will all, hopefully, be scholars like Mr. C. says we should be. I can guess that professors will demand that we give our best. They will more likely request, they want to see us succeed in what we do but they cannot make a person do anything. They can only request that they do the required examination of an exhibit. In college everyone will need study skills for sure. If one cannot study then they will not understand the work they are doing. When the person doesn’t understand the work they will not do it right and in the end they will ultimately fail. Another skill one will need in college is the ability to make friends. In other words be a people person. No one will like a cocky person in their class that makes them feel bad, puts them down and so on. You will need to learn to be kind to others and accept that others need help. You can help them. Just like Teachers and Professors will be there to help you. They want to see you break the barriers and soar beyond.

Freedom is one of the many things that comes to mind whenever I think of college. According to my older sister, students are granted a fair amount of freedom and flexibility when it comes to college-level English courses - as long as you use your skills and knowledge to their fullest potential. This is what I expect from my future college classes. I anticipate an abundance of late study nights along with much frustration. That's something I want to be able to work with, though. I want to be able to channel the frustration I build into a phenomenal paper that is filled with honesty, opinions, and personality. I believe this is what professors will demand from students. Professors aren't interested in what the textbook says; they want students' produce creative ideas, criticism, and talent. Of course professors will direct students in a particular way to think, but part of the beauty about literature is how each and every reader has the ability to interpret it differently. Although uniform in direction, I think college writing assignments will hold high expectations in both critical and analytical thinking.

I think that college writing assignments are going to be fairly difficult. They make you look deeper at things and question what you believe and how you feel about subjects. I think that if you prepare yourself ahead of time the papers and essays will not seem as difficult and lengthy. Mr. C's class is a huge step towards college papers, he demands our best and is helping us to achieve when we need to rise to other expectations. My hope for college papers is that they will get me to open up my mind and find new ideas and concepts I would have never thought of before. I believe that having understanding and compassion to classmates makes writing easier and more successful you don't have fears of screwing up because you know your peers are there to help your writing. I know that in college writings I will be forced out of my safety zone and will be challenge severely and will be pushed to overcome. The professors will demand that we write with passion, they want the papers to come from your heart. They want you to take risks with your writing, say something bold and hold firm with your opinions. They want to be convincing by your writings, they want you to make them feel something, something that makes them think and ask questions to themselves. If your writing truly comes from deep in your heart they will see that passion inside of you. They will demand syntax, and proper grammar and punctuation. They don't just want proof they want polish, if the paper is written with poor syntax it will hurt the context of the paper. Papers open up my mind to question things that otherwise are so easily overlooked. One paper will be a huge part of your grade, possibly even 20%. The Professors will require length papers, some being 8 pages or more all on one subject with immense detail and scholarly questions and answers to them.

I believe College English writing will be similar to the writing I will accomplish in College Bound English. As I’m taking this class, there is much to learn about writing. So far, I know that I have gained great knowledge in just the couple of days we have spent in studying writing, independently and as a class. I can now predict on how much my writing will improve in the future. I haven’t heard from any of my relatives or friends about college writing classes, however, I still feel comfortable of what’s to come in the future. I have been looking into Utah State University for quite a while now. I have viewed the website on college writing, and they tell us everything Mr. C has told me about college writing assignments. In college courses, we will learn the techniques to become a proficient writer as I seek to discover and assert ideas. I will learn how to develop ideas and information literacy skills through personal research. It gives me comfort to know this information because this is basically what we are beginning on and what we will be accomplishing in College Bound English. Writing will benefit me and it is healthy for me. Mr. C also told us to enjoy writing as the professors did on the website. As a unity, we should shape, not absorb, knowledge together from ourselves and from Mr. C or our future instructors.

When in college, the writing assignments will definitely be precise and in depth. Precise meaning alot of research will be required to back up the information found. In depth meaning alot of details described and also alot of information provided, relating to the reader or catching there attention. In college professors will demand proper spelling, punctuation, grammar, and proof. They will want you to have something to prove your statement correct. This year I could work on using a bigger vocabulary and punctuating correctly. With all the technology, it seems as though some teens dont remember the correct grammar usage. My older brother has said to me that college is not all fun and games. You must assert yourself in order to succeed. Take the classes serious and discipline yourself to understand why you are there, and not focus so much on the fun aspect that the word "college" has created. Alot of students go to college thinking about the parties and fun they have, but don't take it seriously. That's when they become lost and thrown off track. Once the grades start to fall, it's hard to bring them back up. Most kids think they can take care of it later, but once behind on one assignment...they will most likely fall behind on another assignment. This is becoming a pattern with some students, and they're are stuck in a possision they thought they'd never be in. Stuck in debt for what? Some dont even finish college...what a shame. In college, devotion, detication, and determination will be a requirement in order to accomplish your goals.

The dreaded green sheet. Also known as our essay assignments is my glimpse into the college life. In my sweat pants four out of the five days a week (not counting the weekends) I will be expecting to be up over analyzing my laptop, scanning over and over with my recently developed lens, the essay just composed onto it. With quotes, examples, hundreds of words, and multiple rough drafts, those are just some of the pieces to the puzzle we call college papers. The words will be expected to be more powerful, needed to stand out to those intimating professors. As a college student I will expect to drink about 2 pots of coffee a day to keep myself awake trying to tackle the amounts of research needed to support my paper to make it strong enough to stand on its own. Dedication will be the most important key in the formula of college. Going above and beyond the comfort of being a high school student will be at task for college writing. Which brings us back to the green sheet. The essays. Practice. This year writing until we can analyze our work under clear lens’ and find no problems we will know we can expand to the unknown world of college writing. Writing above and beyond will be skill a student must have almost mastered if looking at Mankato State University in Minnesota, for their syllabus shows extensive writing compositions, studying texts and film, how to correctly edit and write, and other ingredients needed to make a writer the best they can be. Considering Mankato, I’ll need to continue on my skill as a writer so I can prepare myself for a course such as this. Reading the syllabus is one thing, but actually cracking down and being exposed to it is another, not to mention being assigned the essays and homework that is attached to understanding the material. Though the thoughts of college and the courses are enough to make some hyperventilate, senior year is all about learning to breathe. With the right amount of practice and support we are all bound to make it.
Bachman Pd. 3
I think college writing assignments are going to be harder than college bound 12 because you probably have less time to write them. The less time you have the more stress you have and the essay/paper will not be as well written. It is going to be very hard in college because of all the other classes that are being taken and the homework from those classes also piles on. The writing assignments will also have to be detailed, expressive, and concise in thought. These thoughts will have to be very organized in the essay and not just randomly thrown in. The professors, I believe, will demand very hard work like using excessive syntax, great vocabulary words, and having essay structure down to a point. They will also want someone who can express their thoughts creatively. They will expect your work in on time also. The skills I need to work on this year are using a greater variety of sentences and a greater variety of vocabulary. I also need to learn how to expand and organize my thoughts onto paper and use more creative words in those expanded, organized thoughts. I have the skills to do these things but lack some of the knowledge on when and where to use them. My sister in college has said that the essays are the hardest part of an English class because of the time constrictions set by the other homework you must accomplish. She has also informed me that using the on-campus writing center has helped her tremendously. The grades are also based on writing assignments and tests, not daily work. She has also told me that she found out that teachers will not help you too much on any of your work, it is your responsibility to utilize all of the resources available to you.

Bratland Period 3
I believe that college writing assignments will be a lot like the writing assignments we have started in class this week. They will have to be in depth to prove that we know what we are writing about. We must learn to use syntax properly and effectively to have a wide variety of sentence structures in our papers. We will also have to learn how to polish, provide proof, and support our topics and our opinions thoroughly. I have heard that papers in colleges, such as the University of South Dakota, are very similar to the ones that we write in class. College papers demand a lot of the things that are demanded of us in our papers; they must include page numbers, a heading with our name, then the teacher’s name, the name of the course the paper is for, and the due date. They also demand a title at the very beginning of the paper; single spaced with a colon. I have heard that college papers aren’t too difficult, but they do require quite a bit of time and effort to earn a good grade. In order to receive a good grade on your paper over a book or a movie, you have to analyze the novel or movie thoroughly so you can provide specific details about it. You also have to polish, polish, and polish your paper. I have been told that the first grammatical error your professor finds in your paper, it will be an automatic ten point deduction. They demand that you provide specific details, proof, and use of the critical lenses, such as the ones from the “Critical Lenses 101” handout we received at the beginning of the year. I believe that after completing College Bound English, most, if not all of us, will be prepared and ready for college papers. Not only will we be prepared for English Comp. 101, but also every other class that will demand and require formal essay papers over novels and movies.

College writing assignments will make me think harder and deeper on every paper that we will be required to write than I ever have before. The assignments will make me ask questions about various topics that I had only learned to do through College Bound. Professors will expect every paper to be my best work with as much thought and passion that I possibly could put into the assignment. This year I think I could work on using more details in my papers and writing with more passion than I have in the past. Based on what I have heard from my brother, sister, and numerous friends my homework in college will be hard, challenging, and also time consuming. I will not be able to just put off my homework and procrastinate until the last second like many people do in high school. I will need to put a lot of thought and time into my work if I expect to get good grades throughout my college career. I have done some research on many classes that are offered at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and they teach similar concepts in their classes that we are learning right now in College Bound. One of the professors, Suzanne Bunkers, offers two different courses that have her student examining and assessing a variety of critical approaches to reading and interpreting literature. The concepts they are teaching at Mankato are very similar to what we are learning in College Bound and I am sure almost all the universities across the nation are teaching them also so I believe College Bound will prepare us in ways most high schools do not do for their students.

I believe college writing assignments will be very challenging yet comprehensive. I know professors will demand our very best and even then make us strive to make them better. They will expect us to always polish our writing assignments, no matter how long or short. I have been told to be ready for the long papers that you must not only do research online, but in books, through interviews, or even by going directly to the professors for a writing conference. I am very interested in South Dakota State. I researched their English programs and found a few different sites. http://www4-auth.sdstate.edu/hist/about/faculty/delmer-lonowski/cwp/syllabus1.cfm. This site says that this college course will be very similar to our class setting. They have quizzes where instead of writing a paper and turning it in, you must speak about your topic during the class and you must know what you talking about. If I get into these settings I don’t know how comfortable I will be with telling the whole class my view on a topic, but to get the diploma we must do hard things. After viewing this I think I need to use all of my resources this year to make sure to succeed next year. I need to take more responsibility for my own education and try to make it in for writing workshops. I think we need to make sure to continue to have writing workshops or things like this. We also need to make sure to not get behind or to compound things until there is no longer time to finish them. I know I need to make very good study habits now so I can carry them on to college. I also know I need to absorb as much as I can through this class so that I know exactly what I can do next year and the years to come.

Long, tiring and stressful are words that might describe college assignments. Postive adjectives would be hard-thinking, intelligent tests to see how far you actually will go to prove yourself in school and to others. Professors will demand that they will be set up in an exact way to their format, but with your own ideas, like in Mr. C's class. I think that the assignment will acutally be exactly like the things we do in his class, just more in-depth. I've heard from others that college isnt all its "cracked up to be" and that it is "simply amazing". It all depends on how open your mind is and how will you are to try and succeed. Dr. Nancy Dickinson is the Instructor, and
Director of the Writing Center at Augustana College in Sioux Falls. She leads programs that teaches grammar and writing compostion courses. But, along with teaching these courses, she goes beyond and helps the students on campus with the tutoring program, helping students that don't understand the stucture of sentences, achieve through life. By helping young adults with their writing, it will pay off in the long run when they go out into the real world to seek adult employment. Augustana's average student to teacher ratio is abou 12:1. By having a low rate like this, students are more willing to ask questions and connect with their teacher, making them strive even more by asking, and wanting to learn and know more about this inbetween place in life. Sure, you pay the cost of a private institution, but many students that have graduated from this collge, say that it is the best expeirence that they had.

College assignments going to be extraordinarily demanding when it comes to our levels of thinking. The assignments are going to require us to “go the extra mile” in our research and prove that we can think for ourselves. Our essays will need to be so thoroughly in-depth that it will definitely require at least a weeks worth of research and analytical thinking. Professors are going to demand us to prove we are independent and can take care of ourselves as well as make sure we hand in all work on time. They will want us to show that them we are not kids who need their teachers to baby us anymore, but that we are young adults now and know what to do to turn in our best work. I need to work on coming out of my shell and quit being so worried about what people will think of my work and if they criticize it, that’s their opinion, not mine. Also I want to broaden my mind-set. This way I can have more originality in my writing. I’ve never been much of a risk taker but hopefully by the end of this year and after I’ve completed College Bound English I will be able to take more risks in my style of writing. I’m the oldest child in my family so I don’t have any friends or immediate family in college, therefore I don’t know much about what really goes on except from what you, Mr. C., have told us about it. I know that it is going to be challenging and that it will require a higher level of thinking. I’ve looked at the SDSU AP English Language and Composition syllabus and it will require students to write in several forms. Essays such as narrative, expository, analytical, and argumentative about a variety of subjects will be written throughout the course.

I believe that collegiate writing assignments will be incredibly challenging not only because of the depth of thinking that would be required for them, but also for the matter of the amount of free time one would have available to write them. I am sure that professors will demand many of the same things that are demanded in out College Bound English class, such as “polish, proof and passion.” Forgive me if those are in the wrong order.
I’m sure that college professors will demand students to think critically and with depth about their writing; demand them to not just scratch the surface of their writing ability, but to really explore what they can do. I would expect college professors to not be happy with students just skating by, and doing the absolute bare minimum that they can, in order to earn a passing grade. A professor for a college should work with a student and not only push the boundaries of what they can do, but show one how to push themselves to a level that would have been otherwise unattainable. I would feel that if a college course isn’t demanding, and doesn’t push one to the point that they would question why they’re there in the first place, they aren’t pushing themselves far enough.
I’m and only child, so I have no siblings in college. However I have talked to some friends of mine about what their life in college is like. For the most part, I’ve heard that it’s a lot of fun, and it’s a really enjoyable experience. The only bad things I’ve heard is that you get a lot of homework, and you don’t always have that much free time for yourself. But, that would make sense, because the primary function of college is to learn.

I believe that the college writing assessments will be like this class here at the high school college bound class. I believe that in college you will be challenged greatly and expected to do your very best and use creativity in your work. Professors will demand your very best work and won’t accept any less of you. You will be challenged to think deeper, write passionate and be there very best you are capable of. They demand your hard work to work inside and outside of the class and ask if you need help. They look for creativity and not what everyone else is doing. In college, I’ve heard that the high school college bound class help extraordinarily. My sister, alexa, said that she uses past guides and past notes to help her write essays. She goes to Augustana. I asked her if Mr. C is like a college professor. She answered “Yes he teaches like a college professor but unlike professors he goes around and helps you. In college you have to go out of your way to get help.
I researched SDSU because I am planning on attending here. Here at this college you can study writing, literature and history. Here there are the highest standards of academic conduct. They also deliver the personal touch of a small college. 95% of their new graduates get great jobs. They help you learn how to write and read. They also offer the basics, applied, and translational scholarship that addresses vital issues of health, development, learning, leadership, sustainability and quality of life across the lifespan. They also offer engagement with other individuals, families, schools, organizations, and communities which transform knowledge and discovery into practice and provide meaningful impacts. They help you be a recognized teacher, leader, human sciences and others. I really want to go to this college because I’ve heard that the professors here will help you achieve the best that you’re capable of. Also they are a great early childhood education college school.

I feel that college writing assignments are all going to be challenging and time consuming as well as extremely beneficial. One of my biggest fears is getting lost in the multitude of people on a college campus. In know that professors aren’t always able to get to know all of their students very well so I want to stand out to him/her through my writing. Professors are looking for details, experience, passion, and facts in our writing so I want to learn to write including these requirements and more so I am able stand out on my ability. In class we need to work on the correct set up for constructing the perfect essay; also we need to work on putting as much passion and heart into our essay. I have heard from a girl I work with that she regrets not taking college bound English because this year in her English class she feels like she is not properly prepared for everything about writing and analyzing in class. I have also heard from someone who goes to State that they are glad that they took college bound English because they weren’t caught off guard by anything. I have heard that essays in college are like everything we are doing in college bound English. Continuing the way we are learning about how to construct the perfect passionate essay will get us noticed in college classes and later in life.

It is my belief that college is going to be like having to take highschool over again. We will start college out as the newbie freshmen with nothing to look forward to but massive amounts of home work that we will be dedicating a lot more of our time to. The english classes are going to get harder with many more essays and deeper analyzing into novels. I do not look forward to the stress of homework, but I think it will be pretty interesting to think deeper into novels and thinking in general. I think the professors are going to demand that I will get my assignments in on time as highschool demands. They are also going to demand that I hear what they have to say and absorb it to use it throughout my life. I basically need to work on just getting my homework done and handed in on time if I want to make it in college. I also need to work on writing essays. If I cant write an essay there is absolutely no way I would make it in college. What I hear from my friends at SDSU is that campus is one big party and there is always something to do. Some of my friends choose to party and skip class and some of them are always doing homework and preparing for the next day. As for me when I go to college I want to get home from school, get my homework done, then go party on the weekends. I want to have a good time while I am there, but I also have to crack down on home work and keep up in all my classes. My friends also say that the English classes are much more demanding and a lot of homework is given out. The skills I am learning now I will build up throughout college.

I think that college essays are going to be much different in college than they are in high school. They will be much longer, and involve a higher level of thinking than most essays that I’ve written. They will be due anywhere from two days to a week after being formally assigned to you. They will probably be given months in advance though. They might even all be on the syllabus that you are given on the first day of class. I think they will require a lot more research than I’m used to doing. That is something that I am going to have to learn during my time in College Bound English. Another thing that I think will be different is that you probably won’t be reminded about assignment deadlines. When assignments are due, they will have to have a professional finish to them. The formatting will be uniform and precise, and somewhat robotic. Another thing that some classes require to their professional finish is a front cover on the paper, or page sleeves for each page. Proper punctuation and grammar are also key elements in college English courses. Another thing that will be different is that you will have to use more mature and scholarly vocabulary. There are many things that I need to work on to improve my essays writing skills, so that I can someday be as good at writing them as Mr. C. One of these things is syntax. I really need to work on using more complex sentences with more depth. I also need to work on fluffing up my essays more. I like to write essays that are straight and to the point, and I hate having to make it a certain length. To me, if I can get my point across in a small amount of space and time, then I won’t have to fluff it up and try to ‘BS’ my way around knowing information. I hate fluff, but I know I need to work on it. The thing I need to work on the most, though, is starting my assignments sooner. If I don’t start an essay the day after I get it, I will forget about it. Once I forget about it I will realize that it is due in one or two days and I haven’t even worked on it, and then I panic and get stressed out trying to write a bunch. According to my sister, Brianna, the essays are a lot more writing, but if you do all of your work it’s an easy A or B. She also said that they have more research. Hopefully with all of the information that I learn in this class and from my sister’s experiences in college, I will be able to dominate any essay that I am put up against in college.

I personally feel that college is going to be demanding, challenging, and require a lot of deep thoughts. I think that I’m going to have to analyze things with my “lenses” and be able to prove what I think. The professors are also going to be demanding. They will expect me to be responsible, intelligent and thought provoking. Being responsible by learning to manage my time wisely is going to be essential is achieving my goals. I am going to have to work on opening my mind to things more and learn how to use my lenses better. The last thing that I hope to learn is to do research and put it into a paper so that I have that skill going into college next year. There are a few more basic things that I need to work on like turning my work in on time and being able to concentrate on what I’m doing. If there is anything I have learned from friends that I have in college is not to hole up in your dorm for too long. If you do that then you are going to drive yourself crazy!
I have chosen a composition class that is called ENGL 101. English Composition I. It requires you to have prior knowledge, and bring that knowledge into the classroom so that you apply it to the material in a new way. It involves developing my writing further in many different aspects and also using critical thinking that will tap in to prior knowledge also. I am also hoping that I am going to be able to use skills that I am going to learn this year, especially compiling information by doing research and putting it together to write a paper that is worthy of receiving an acceptable grade. I am expecting this class to continue to further my knowledge in the area of writing.

It seems to me that the writing assignments in college will be a lot like the ones we will be doing now, just at a higher level. Looking at the syllabus it looks like other assignments are similar as well. From watching movies, to reading books and analyzing them. Something that really caught my attention was how it said at the beginning of the document it stated that they would start out by analyzing “Beauty and The Beast” and then looking later, at how it appears again in different literary pieces. That totally reminded me of what we did to start the year, with “The Lion King.” It looks like our class is turning out to be more of a college course than I thought! Professors will probably demand a lot more out of me than what I think I will be able to give. A lot of time will have to be devoted. I think I will need to work more on writing passionately, and caring more on the topics I write about.

I don't think anybody should consider a college for the parties or because its easier to graduate than the next school. In the end you leave college (dropping out or barely getting by) and come to realize you've only cheated yourself when you enter the "real world." College will be one of the more difficult things for me to accomplish without "cheating" myself or scraping by just to get the degree. Regaurdless of your major or intended classes they will not be easy and I feel I should definately be trying harder now to better prepare for the college life. In college from many people i've heard, you yourself is the only motive to succeed, and you need to alter your personality into being fairly ambitious to really succeed and take the college lessons to heart and into the world with you. The only motive to actually being in the class is yourself wanting to be there (and not waste a lot of money for nothing) and most teachers won't hassle you to get your work in or better yourself, they will teach their lessons and you will be expected to infer them as they're expecting.

Southeast Tech is the school I chose to link because I feel like it is the better suited learning environment for my own success. A hands on career in a field i'm interested in, in my mind is the best way to be self motivated. Also choosing a career out of passion rather than a paycheck is the key to being happy with what you do and succeeding in life, appreciating what you have... In my mind anyways.
I’ve never heard of a school with an English class specifically for college-bound students, but I’m glad it is at this school because it actually does seem similar to college.. Having four older sisters all in or graduated college, I hear about college classes a lot and the topics they write about are like the ones we are scribe. One particular sister of mine at Creighton University spends a massive amount of time going over and revising her papers, along with one of my other sisters at Grinnell College in Iowa. They spend up to four hours on just revising one paper, or so I’m told… Crazy stuff! I am extremely appreciative about learning the lenses. Even though most senior English classes learn about the lenses, I feel as if our class goes way more into depth with them. However, I think we should work on higher vocabulary because the English section on the SAT has words that we never knew existed! Or I did not, at least. I think college professors will demand a lot of thinking in their assignments. I think they would rather have something turned in late that is a lot better than something that was written sloppily in a couple of days. Quality. Many of our assignments in college will probably be about society and how it works, since every job out there deals with society in some way, shape, or form.
Bakken 2
I believe that college writing assignments will be like nothing I have ever encountered. College writing assignments are going to challenge you and force you to think on a much deeper level and a solid paper is not going to be able to be turn out in less than an hour. It is going to force you to sit down and really dig deep to put together an essay that a professor will want to read and will remember reading. College professors are not going to be content with just another plan jane essay that you half a**ed like most of us have done in the past. Professors at any school are going demand that you put everything that you have into an essay, and are going to want you to write it backing everything that you are saying. Details, knowledge of the subject, ability to connect to the subject, conflict, thinking outside of the box, and a view point that is normally not taken are some of the things that most college professors are going to be looking for in there classes and in their students essays/papers. Sentences and paragraphs that have depth and meaning to them are also going to be demanded in the college classroom. Proof, passion, and polish is what Mr. C calls it. A professor is going to want an essay that he or she feels was done with in-depth thought and didn’t take 15 minutes to throw together. I have heard from my sister that her English professor at UNL didn’t even take her first paper because it was not formatted correctly. I researched one of the University of Minnesota Mankato’s English courses and it is going to teach students to ‘write technical documents, successfully critique colleagues’ technical work, improve your technical writing skills, write both independently and cooperatively on technical writing projects, and use appropriate hardware and software.’ I think I will have to work on how to write good, passion pieces that have a deeper meaning to them.
Hamrick pd. 6
Although I do think Mr. C’s College Bound class will prepare me for college, I still think college will be very different. I don’t have any close family members that have gone to college, so I really have no clear picture of what to expect, but I have an idea. I expect to spend a majority of my free time in college doing homework. From what I have looked into, it seems like the English courses are going to be similar to College Bound, but at a more intense level. A lot of the classes use literary analysis and criticism like in our class. There will be more homework, and there will be tons of papers. The paper’s we write in CB, I think, will help us a lot during our classes in the future. We can look back into our handouts and remember things that we wrote and talked about. I think the professors will demand that I do my work with “passion, proof, and polish”. They will expect very intellectual answers from us.
https://webapps-prd.oit.umn.edu/courses/courses.jsp?designator=ENGL&submit=Show+the+courses&campus=UMNTC
When I look at this list of classes offered, it makes me a little nervous. I am the kind of person to get paranoid about things in the future, and this makes me wonder if I will be prepared enough. It makes me feel like I need to apply myself more in College Bound. It actually makes me want to read Shakespeare or something… It’s a very stressful idea to me, going to college. In CB, now I am anxious to do more of the work that can prepare me better for what’s to come. If there’s one thing that I need to work on more, it would be learn to be myself on paper. When I write, I don’t feel like you can tell that it’s me. I need to concentrate more on putting what I think on the papers, not what I think you think I should think. With the help from Mr. C, and the work we do in class, I feel like I well be prepared for what the professors demand of me.
Alec Hauck pd. 6
I believe college writing will be very similar to the way we write our assignments in College Bound. In our english class we are currently taking, I think we are taught to thoroughly and creatively prepare ourselves for exactly what a college english class will consist of. Within just a couple of weeks of taking this course, My mind has been twisted and turned to make myself think from every aspect of what any possible exhibit can consist of or involve. I think that this ratical way of learning will have a huge impact when we all get to a college english class because we wont only be more than prepared for it, but confident as well. I would assume a college course would be a bit more difficult, but all in all, I think that even at the college level, our minds will be tested with very similar things if not the same. All of this will be presented to us in college, with the exception of a fraction of the help, but when we cover it this year we should be more than ready for whatever comes our way in similar college type courses, and that is exactly what I believe college professors will demand from us. Our goal to be even more prepared and to be able to accomplish all the tasks that are set forth in our future is open our minds, learn and stay focuses. The same goes for when we reach that first year of college. It will be a whole new life with a whole new set of challenges and what we all need to do at that point is to stay on track and make sure school is the main focus in life, especially considering the big chunk of change we are paying for each course.
A college english course from a university such as Augie, they want to expose you to a wide variety of writing styles and create a well understood learning environment. They like to offer courses similar to or that can be used for writing to further push you and develop, or expand your mind into thinking and writing beyond what you ever believed you could possess. All that they teach you to analyze, read, write, edit and think can put you in a very good place for future careers that require all these things. College Bound does a very good job at teaching us what I think are practice or mear examples to such in depth writing and thinking that will be expected of us at the college level.

I personally am not a person that likes English that much; I have always struggled in English. So I have a feeling I am going to struggle in college English, which is my biggest fear is to struggle, but you can always learn from your mistakes, and taking College Bound with Mr. C I can already tell I am learning a lot of things I will use in college for example going to SD my life and writing an resume that we could use in our everyday life. I know the expectation for professors are definitely different then high school teacher, professors don’t offer extra credit, you get what you get , without extra credit in high school I seriously wouldn’t be doing this good without it. To be completely honest I am scared of what kind of papers we will have to write , if we are already have to be doing 3-5 pages I don’t what the college papers will be like , thousands and thousands of words and pages and pages of information over one topic or not even a topic just one sentence , I can hardly do a topic with a quote I don’t know how I will be able to that college and that scares me .but I believe that after taking Mr. C English class I will have the abilities and the smarts to move forward in college. What I have learned from cousins that are in college is that when you think of college you think of parties and just a little bit of homework but that is completely false you actually work your butt off in college you might even be up until very early in the morning typing a 25 page paper over the dumbest thing ever, but in college they don’t give you the easy topic they give you topics that will make you think , and that will make you use your brain, and what u learned from previous year to the present , they want to know if you are capable of moving onto the career and if you are not they will literally tell you , you can do better than this and give you an F, and you will have redo the whole entire thing. So maybe college isn’t the thing for everybody, but you can always find out the first month of college and always transfer and you can always come back when you are ready for the stressful environment and lifestyle.
Haase pd.2
Honestly i have no clue as to what my writing classes will be like in college. I assume that college writing courses are to be close to that of Mr. C's class. MC has said multiple times that he is in contact with college teachers. They either discuss college topics or ways of teaching to their students. I have heard from MC's previous students that college English is much like college bound English 12. So it is apparent that he actually teaches us to prepare are minds for higher education. If he did not teach us that way that what good is he really doing obviously not his job right. So why is this such a complex question. I am sure professors assuming that we learned something in high school will want longer more in depth pieces of writing but i am almost positive that the writing will be fairly the same as to what we are currently being educated on. I myself have to actually start working towards putting real heart felt research and topics into my writing. Most of my writing is like how i passed every class since kindergarten go up in front of the class pull something completely strange from my posterior and hope for the best. I won't lie i am a fairly good writer if i can just write straight from the head without putting real thought into my work. It has worked so far to keep my grades up but i am beginning to notice this year especially that this technique will not work forever. My average A/B grades i have notice this year has started at the big A and has slowly swindled down to that depressing C/D that stands for average. But what person wants to be average it is our goal has students and future college students to strive for more strive for our best. It is time we all start to do this not just me it is crucial time in our lives to really strive for something phenomenal.

I believe writing assignments for college will be demanding and difficult. They will be like that so it forces you to express your full beliefs and put more passion into your pencil. I also think that they will push you to the limit on homework and writing assignments just to better prepare you for your future life. I researched on the South Dakota State University website and found information on the courses offered(http://www.sdstate.edu/engl/courses/fall.cfm). The class I looked up is English 151: Introduction to English Studies with Dr.Jason McEntee. The course is required by all first year English majors. It will provide students with the background and professional skills to read critically and write analytically about literary texts. Students will learn to write from a variety of critical and theoretical stances. In addition, the course provides training in research methods for the discipline, including use of print and electronic sources, and in MLA documentation style. Students will generate bibliographies, source studies, and both documented and undocumented critical papers. Papers will be based on readings from poetry, fiction, and drama. If I am to attend this class I will need to work on how to generate bibliographies and be able to write more fluently and analytically.
I asked my sister, Julie, about classes in general her Freshman year and she said they were difficult and demanding. She also said that if I had not taken College Bound English I would probably have been in trouble my first year. She said I would have been in trouble because College Bound English does what it will do in it’s title. It will help you better your studies and make you think and write more analytically. It will also help you look at movies, books, everyday life, and ext. in different views like Marxist, Freudian, and Feminist.

I imagine that college writing assignments will be very similar, or the exact same thing that we are doing in class now. I imagine that professors will demand what you expect and more. I must work on not procrastinating, especially on assignments that I could care less about. I have heard from my cousin that he is having a good time at SDSU. He mainly complains about amount of homework that he gets is a little excessive and redundant. As for a syllabus or a website, I really have not chosen a college yet, so I can't provide one.
