Lord of the Flies Prediction

Based on what you have heard, seen, and know of classic British literature, what predictions for William Golding's Lord of the Flies can you create? What might the pictures show on this blog--and the pictures that come up when you Google (verb form of "Google") Lord of the Flies?

I havent heard much about the book other then what i have heard in class but based on in-class discussion i think it will be a book i will enjoy. I think it will be better then house on mango street and other books we have read but "One flew one flew over the cuckoo's nest" will be tough to beat

I really have not heard much about the book, beside what I have heard in class from mr. c and diana. From what they say the book sounds very interesting. Also from the pictures on this blog, it creates many questions about the book and what it is about.

I am eager to read this book, last year in my ap art class michelle nelson talked about it and it made me curious. Also the pig head brought alot of interesting thoughts about the book, I hope that it will be a good read I am looking forward to it. I think from what ive herd and seen that it will be placed in a tribal setting on an island somewhere. It should be a very interesting book and i cant wait to read it.

I haven't heard all that much about Lord of the Flies, but it sounds like it's going to be a really fun and interesting book. From the pictures on the site I predict that the boys go to an academy or boarding school of some sort. They end up on a deserted island where the only other inhabitants are animals. In order to survive they must use their instincts and all the skills they possess. I think it will describe how people (or young boys) would react in a situation like that very well, and I'm very excited to start reading it.

I am pretty excited to read this novel. I havent heard that much about it, but I believe it's one of Mr. C's favorite books of all time. SO IT MUST BE GOOD!

The model in his class room that has the pigs bloody head on a spear makes this book look more and more interesting!

ps...can you put more vocab words on your LP, please

I have read parts of the book and have seen the movie. When I watched the video, I thought it was great. Usually movies are nowhere near as good as the books. Based off of that I predict that the books is going to be excellent.

because i have already read the book i will tell you what predictions i had when i found it for 25 cents at a used book store. I remembered my dad had told me that it was a classic book. Unfortunately, there was a preface, which i read. And i found that my favorite character...(sorry had to bleep out the spoiler)... so i was put off from reading it for a while, then i was board that summer so i picked it up and finished it in the same day. It is a good book. The beast was so grotesque that i could feel the flys all over!*skin crawls* ugh!!!!

I have heard from a few kids that have already read this book, that it was one of their favorites and that they would recommend it to anyone looking for a good read.

The book looks like it's going to be about some kids left on an island without supervision. From what I've seen on Google, there seems to be some sort of conflict with a pig. I don't know much else but it looks like a good book.

I think that this is goin to be one of the best goods we read this year from what i have heard. Its about little kids that get trapped on a island and there is something to do with a PIG HEAD but thats all i have heard.

The only things that ive heard have been in class. My mom said she read it in high school and really liked it. It's also a favorite of Mr. C so it should be good. I think it's going to be hard to beat some of my favorites, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and To Kill A Mockingbird.

Something funny that i ran across while "googling" Lord of the Flies is that the title is a "reference to the Hebrew name Beelzebub." (Wikipedia) Also that it could be another name for the devil. The book makes a statement that society is necessary and without civilization man would regress to barbarians.

i read this book at the start of the year and like it a lot i also watched the movie and i think this is the alone book where i thought the book was better then the movie.

like in all the classic brit lit that we read in school the main characters are going to start off small physically and mentally and they will grow both ways by the end like bromden did in one flew over the cuckoos nest

I am looking forward to reading this book. From what Ive heard its really good. I like action books and this book involves kids stranded on an island so there has to be action involved.

I have heard that Lord of the Flies will be one of the best books i will ever read. Many of your past students told me that i will simply love this book, if i like a book with many plot twists and turns. My aunt said that this "is one of my favorite books, and based on what you [Lance] read you will have a hard time putting it down". so with all of that i simply hope it is good as the many people say it.

as i read the first chapter or so of the book, i can not preserve the thought of piggy dying some way throughout the novel. somthing tells me about his dimeanor that he is unlucky and will be an unfortunate victim of the island and its dangers. I also believe, having met the character jack, that there will be a power struggle between ralph and jack.

As I read the more and more of the book I became hooked and didn't want to put it down. Golding does a great job of taking your mind to the island with the kids. I think this is going to be a good book just by reading the first chapter.

I have to say that I'm still a little boggled by why the book is titles Lord of the Flies. I'm going to guess that the boys go a little bit off the edge and start to fight each other. split into two teams and go for the death.

Mr. Matt Christensen said...

Andy--Great to wonder about the title! You'll find out soon what it means and I will discuss it at length, at which point a lot of meaning will "fly" off the page. Some critical, scholarly essays will help us think more analytically.

The book wasnt very interesting to me in the beginnning because I had been gone so it was harder for me to pay attention and understand what was going on. It has become much more interesting to me now and the pictures we saw in class yesterday have so many different meanings to how people interpret lord of the flies. There is also no real opinion of art therefore you cant really be critical of other people's opinions of how they are interpreting the book. I guess this is where the "don't judge a book by its cover" falls. I was quick to judge but have changed my mind.

I’m not really sure what to predict because so far it has been a little cryptic. I think that Ralph will eventually conform to Jack's ways and then all hope for their rescue and sanity is gone. They will be stuck in that primitive state for the rest of their lives if no one comes to save them. This picture shows that the boys are following one person who is in charge; in this case that is Jack. He has his own little army of choir boys. This image is one that is shown before the boys turn savage, proving that they can have order on the island if they want to.
